What about Bret Hart appealed to you?

This is shortly before the Montreal Screwjob, when the Hart Foundation was feuding with The Patriot and Vader (Gee, I wonder who's gonna win this feud ) Anyways, what about "The Excellence of Execution" appealed to you, if he did? I think besides being one of the greatest technicians of all time, what I liked about him was that he didnt have to try that hard to make people love or hate him. He could deliver great promos without having to be all spastic or run around screaming. So if you are a fan of the Hitman, what about him appealed to you? |
I liked the part where he screwed himself.
|
I liked that he was the fucking man
|
started watching in late 1995 so i saw bret drop his title, get outshone by steve austin at wrestlemania and then spend 10 years bitching about a far better wrestler named shawn michaels.so to answer your question...nothing
|
Great, here we go again.
|
He was just fun to watch, don't care about who was this or who did that. Bret was the most fun to watch when I started watching and continued to be up until he retired.
|
I was always a fan of his wrestling. I always thought everything he did was perfect. He was ver technical with his style and he was good with promos too. He is one of the guys where I can pop in any match of his and enjoy it. There are not too many wrestlers i can say that with.
|
Oh ffs, another bret hart thread.
|
i liked bret but i thought that owen was the better wrestler, me and my friends always preferred owens more athletic style of wrestling

A decade of moaning or not, it just doesn't matter when a guy can consistently put over the crappiest of wrestlers and make them look phenomenal in the ring. I've never seen a bad Bret Hart match. |

<font color=goldenrod>I didn't start watching until mid 1998. Bret was not the Bret that I came to know through old WWF videos. So, I went with he didn't appeal to me. Because when he was still actively competing and I was watching, he didn't.</font>

On top of that, what an awesome promo he cut in that vid. :y: |
I enjoyed his charisma and what he brought to the ring
|
I was a huge fan of Bret's growing up.
my mind was blown watching his matches with Mr. Perfect and Davey Boy. He made matches with the Warlord and the Barbarian watchable. My personal favorite spots against the hosses were his bear hug escape. You would believe he was in a dire situation because Bret Hart, one of the best technical wrestlers in the world, would bite and eye gouge his way out of the bear hug. |
His theme song.

What about Bret Hart appealed to you?
He appealed to me What? |

never liked him...met him once and he was a total douche
|
I'm sure Randy Orton would be a real peach.
|
Just something about him and the way he portrayed himself always made totally intrigued by his character and whatever he was doing on the shows.
I found he had this amazing way of making stories seem realisitc. I think he was better than anybody at that. And that's what I really enjoy. Just look at his feuds, and most all of them were so intense, you could easily forget that this was all scripted. He was great on the mic at accomplising that too. |
The way he executed every move was impressive. He showed so much precision and such perfect timing. He just had this energy that made him just shine in my eyes. The promos were also great. As far as his bitching about HBK, etc. I don't really care. I don't know Bret personally so I won't make personal assumptions about how he lives his life and what he wants to bitch about. I am judging him for what I know about him..his wrestling.
|
At the time I think the big reason I liked him was since he was very much an underdog and used real wrestling to take his opponents down. Back in those days it was always the strong guys that would always get over but with him that wasn't the case. He did what most heels would do and that is outsmart them but of course he wasn't dirty though.
|
His entrance music and the Sharpshooter. I clapped and stomped my feet like a retard whenever any of these two happened.

He took a shit in a co-worker's bag.
|
Let me know when Bret starts prank shitting and I'll retract my statement.
|
I'm not defending Bret, but it's pretty obvious that Orton's a dick. Shitting in a bag was just an example. He's generally known for being a sub par individual.

In all honesty I can't put my finger on why I liked Bret. I'm not gonna say it was his technical ability cos I'm pretty sure that didn't cross my mind as a mark when I first got into wrestling.
It might have been that he was more like an average guy compared to the Hogan's and Warrior's of that era, but once again, I doubt that crossed my mind at the time. |
I vote HBPunk as TPWW's Heel of 2009.
|
I liked Bret as a kid because he always stood up for what was right, but he didn't shove it down your throat like Hulk Hogan. Plus, the Sharpshooter, the theme song, and his matches were all super bad ass. Even when I played with the action figures, Bret would hardly ever lose unless ten or twelve people ran in.
|
Bret Hart appealed to me because he knew how to take a kick.
...oh wait. :shifty: |
Bret was a good entertainer for a good while but was DEFINITELY surpassed by his brother Owen in the ring AND on the mic... Owen had a LOT of career left in him... He's not anywhere near the league or was a pioneer like HBK... Not once in Brets career did he reinvent himself... He turned heel/face pretty damn good though... The screwjob sucks but you can't let the past rule your life, but who says most of this isn't media hype... I don't know the guy either...

I voted Bret appealed to me because he appealed to me.

as opposed to "dont care wither way".

I'm not going to tell you how to post your threads, but that poll means about nothing the way you did it. Just saying. |
I loved that whole heel Hart Foundation vs USofA angle back then.
Can't really say why Bret appealed to me, it's like trying to explain why a certain colour is your favorite, you just like it. But I always liked Bret's music, the sharpshooter, his matches, the pink/black colour scheme worked well (Hart Foundation was the only reason to like pink as a kid, lol). Later on in my teen years, I liked the Hart family history (thought it was pretty cool with Stu and the dungeon, etc), and the Canada vs USA angle. |

Bret very much appealed to me. I started watching wrestling right around the time Hogan left WWE, and Bret was starting to get another push. I just latched onto the guy. His ring work was always crisp. His back breaker, side Russian leg sweep, all had this "pop" to them. Also, I find it odd, but I've always loved the way he left his feet and threw himself back when doing a standing vertical suplex.
Also, when he went heel, I still cheered him. I loved Austin during his push going to Mania, but I HATED him and HBK for beating the piss out of Bret every chance they got. Also, one of the greatest themes ever. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/btS0OVdqkb0&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/btS0OVdqkb0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> |
In all honesty....what was the point of the poll in this thread....considering the options to vote for don't pertain as to a reason in particular as to what exactly you did or did not like about bret.
|
brett did have more stroke than jeff jarrett
|
The only stroke Jarrett has got is the one Karen Angle is putting on his Solo Guitar....
|
close this down....next thread please...

Bret hart v bulldog I don't think there has been a match to surpass this
Bret mother fucking hart ! :) x |
Part of it was the cool ass sunglasses.
Part of it was the technical expertise. Part of it was his stoic demeanor. And his first World Title reign was great because of how it was set up: Him as a fighting champion taking on all comers. A booking cliche'? Of course. But it's a cliche' because it works. Hulk was the larger than life superhero. Bret was more the everyman having to compensate for his lack of size with his intelligence. |
I always enjoyed this segment,
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LuBE9xkhth8&hl=en_GB&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LuBE9xkhth8&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> I really dunno if anyones come off with a more convincing out of character rant, it sounded and looked very real at the time. Also sid coming out saying "i dont know shit crybaby" had me laughing my ass off. |
Bret was just awesome in every way as a wrestler and overall performer. Very underrated on the microphone in my opinion. The matches he had with Mr. Perfect were some of my all time favorites.

You are not a comical person Zach. Know this and stop these attempts to be one.
He was the most belivable guy to me, He seemed real in promo's, his ring work was very realistic. I don't really care about a huge arsenal of menouvers and holds, as long as what you do looks real. How many matches these days are more like a dancing with the stars routine than a wrestling match? |

I don't think there is accurate comparitive testing to back up such a statement, but I know it's true, you know it's true... and most of all, Schlomey knows it's true. |
