WWE: The Comic Book

From PWInsider:

Titan Publishing sent PWInsider.com the following images of their forthcoming WWE Heroes comic book. The first image is the Newstand cover for the series' debut issue. The second image is an alternative cover featuring Triple H, Kelly Kelly and Michelle McCool. The remaining images are artwork from the debut issue. The series will debut in March 2010 as part of the Wrestlemania synergy.

Ermaximus 12-02-2009 12:15 PM

I feel dumber having just read that shit.

BigDaddyCool 12-02-2009 12:24 PM

I didn't even read so much as try to figure out when Matt Hardy got so ripped and when John Morrison got less ripped.

Rammsteinmad 12-02-2009 12:25 PM

I expect Triple H to always be the main star, with muscles that'll make the Hulk jealous.

Ermaximus 12-02-2009 12:30 PM

BDC I too was wondering that. Though they seem to have done a good job on R-Truth.

The Jayman 12-02-2009 12:30 PM

I was just trying to figure out the guy in the kilt in the RR picture

Ermaximus 12-02-2009 12:35 PM

I was too. I'm thinking it might be Sheamus, but that would be way off.

I was also wondering when the WWE signed Consequences Creed. See the black guy in the green tights with the fro.

owenbrown 12-02-2009 12:38 PM

Are you fucking kidding me with this shit?

owenbrown 12-02-2009 12:39 PM

I wouldn't pay 4 cents for this much less $4

DaveBrawl 12-02-2009 12:41 PM

Why does the Undertaker look like a roided up Travis Tritt?

Blitz 12-02-2009 12:41 PM

Horrible.

The Jayman 12-02-2009 12:56 PM

where the hell is Kane's glove

ClockShot 12-02-2009 01:13 PM

What? No big C on Cena's chest? I'm dissapointed.

Fignuts 12-02-2009 01:34 PM

lol 90's comic book

owenbrown 12-02-2009 02:11 PM

Hey this comic isn't very PG is it?

parkmania 12-02-2009 02:13 PM

Where's Taker's tats?

Also, was wondering why I hadn't heard about this before yesterday, seeing as how I own a comic shop. Seeing that it doesn't come out until March and I only received my solicitations for February this week makes a lot more sense.

Lock Jaw 12-02-2009 02:41 PM

I think the guy in the kilt is supposed to be Roddy Piper. I read he was in the book. Which apparently means de-aging him and making him an active wrestler.

Also, in the group shot with a face-Batista leading it, is that supposed to be Morrison on the far right? Looks more like a clean-shaven CM Punk to me.

GD 12-02-2009 02:52 PM

There was no way I could have identified Kane without his tights.

I'm surprised to see this comic in this condition. It must have never been read, because the binding tears before you get through with the first page.

Mostly sheer boredom, but it is possible I may suffer from a small type of mental retardation.

I remember them releasing 3 at the same time. It was Taker, Warrior, and one other. Was Hogan the 3rd?

Yes, BDC knows of the horrible nash comic that is horrible.

That is not the actual picture of the one I have. I actually picked up all 4 (the Warrior/Taker one and the ones wwe2222 mentioned) at the dollar store when I was in 5th grade.

Emperor Smeat 12-02-2009 09:22 PM

Didn't realize the story for the comic is basically a random security guy instead of doing his job is fantasizing the Royal Rumble as some sort of medieval/sci-fi battle until looking at it a second time.

Shadow 12-03-2009 08:55 PM

The last time I heard about a wrestling comic book it was Warrior #1.

And that was so bad it caused a dimensional flux the like of which has only been seen since Crisis on Infinite Earths.

I thought the writers were just showing us it was like a "Gladiator" type of "sport". Now that I realize that, it shows the security guard basically got bored of watching.

Lock Jaw 12-03-2009 10:52 PM

Clearly there is some metaphysical crosstime thing going on where "all of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again" and the wrestlers are going to be dragged into combat with the myriad forces of the universe, some who wish to make sure everything repeats while the others want existence to take a different turn.

Or maybe not.

I actually DO like the guy who is writing the series though. Keith Champagne. He's actually more an artist then a writer, but he's written a few things, all of which I have enjoyed.

Indifferent Clox 12-03-2009 11:05 PM

yo lock jaw, what has he written?

The first issue of WWE Heroes, featuring WWE Superstars and Divas, will street March 23rd. It will be written by Keith Champagne (Justice Society, Green Lantern Corpse, World War III), with art by Andy Smith.

The story will be set in a new fictional universe in which a ruthless Shadow King is obsessed with the WWE as he battles the Firstborn, who might be a member of the WWE.

The first issue will carry both a newsstand and an alternate direct only cover.

Superstars that will appear in the book include Triple H, Undertaker, Randy Orton, Batista, Shawn Michaels, Big Show, John Cena, CM Punk, Kane, Edge, Chris Jericho, Matt Hardy, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Carlito, Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler and Kelly Kelly.

The "alternate direct only" cover is the painted one with HHH, Kelly Kelly, and Michelle McCool.

Lock Jaw 12-04-2009 12:11 AM

A couple issues of JSA, a couple of Green Lantern Corps, and is currently co-writing The Mighty (which is pretty awesome). Don't ask me which ones though. Look them up yourself. He may or may not have written other stuff too.

Lock Jaw 12-04-2009 12:13 AM

Oh? He wrote that World War III thing? That was kind of a stinker. Though he was given a stinker of an "event" to write.

Indifferent Clox 12-04-2009 12:30 AM

i have teh glc stuff so that's pretty awesome

Cover B by Liam Sharp (Incredible Hulk, Gears of War, Superman, Batman and Spawn: The Dark Ages)

Synopsis:
Issue #1 reveals an eternal rivalry set against the backdrop of the history of WWE. Why is the ruthless Shadow King so obsessed with the WWE? What is the reason for his eternal and supernatural war with the Firstborn? And could his ancient opponent really be a member of the WWE roster?

Some choice quotes from the creative team:

Andy Smith -- Artist
What was special for you about this project?
I think the WWE is the closest thing to live comic books as you can get!

Why should readers pick up the WWE comic?
Because it is super cool! Seriously though, it's a high action story with some supernatural themes that will appeal to the straightforward super hero type readers, as well as die hard WWE fans!

Keith Champagne -- Writer
What's your favourite scene from the comic?
I've got two, the cliffhangers at the end of the first and second issues. The end of the first issue, I hope, will make the reader go, "Whoah! Didn't see that coming!" and the end of the second issue is really the moment where it becomes clear that we're not just throwing muck at a wall to see what sticks. There's a bigger plan beginning to unfold.

Liam Sharp -- Cover Artist
Where did you get your inspiration for the cover image?
I think it came from three sources--one was a Sean Connery Bond movie poster provided by the client, the next are classic Barbarian-style paintings by Frazetta et al, and finally there's the kind of showbiz glitz you get with big league wrestling, so it had to have a good slice of that cheese and not take itself too seriously!

Sixx 01-19-2010 02:28 PM

Who would've thought spandex panties are great for fighting the undead.

parkmania 01-30-2010 08:24 PM

Issue #2 preview:

There is only one place for our eternal champions to end up - Wrestlemania! What will the stars of the WWE do when mystical terrorists grab the ringside seats Will Triple H, John Cena, and the Undertaker be able to stop heavily-armed, mysterious bad guys? And how do these unforgettable events tie into the centuries-old face-off between the Shadow King and the King of Kings?

Just downloaded and read the first two issues. It is actually kind of interesting.

Spoilers for the second issue:

SPOILER: show
Chris Jericho and Triple H are both killed by a cult of terrorists. Triple H is probably gonna be resurrected though, and become the real King of Kings.

Also, I saw an "Al Snow" sign in the crowd.
