Official ECW Thread, 12/22/09 - Swagger vs. Tatsu! (No Spoilers, Please!)
 

We're a little under an hour and fifteen minutes away from this week's installment of ECW, but I'm sure a lot of you are just itching to start discussing it right now! I believe the main event tonight has ECW Homecoming implications as the former ECW champion, "The All-American American" Jack Swagger takes on one of ECW's fastest rising stars from the east, Yoshi Tatsu! Plus, Zack Ryder will probably be there somewhere.

Sounds exciting to me.

Also, it turns out Freddy v. Jason is on SyFy leading into ECW. Nice.

Freddy vs Jason is a remarkable movie. I actually believe this. Sure, overall it's still a cheesy slasher flick with horrible acting and whatnot. Still, I honestly don't think they could have made it any more fun and amazing for the gimmick that it was. They nailed it, and it lived up to the "dream matchup" thing. Better than the invasion, or marvel vs dc.
Seeing it was a blast

Yeah, I had a lot of fun in the theater with Freddy v. Jason. I was laughing pretty steadily throughout, and while the premise was somewhat simplistic, it worked very well in a "believeable" way to have Freddy and Jason working together.

I wish this weren't edited right now.

Kelly Rowland's an even worse actress than Beyonce, though.

Sometimes I wonder what people watching SyFy stricly for science fiction programming think when ECW comes on.
Do they roll their eyes and bitch that its not Stargate?

or do they roll with it and assume that it must be sci fi, and make connections that aren't there...

They probably act like they're too cool for it.

Actually, I'm not completely sure, but they're inviting ECW alumni back to face current ECW superstars to qualify for the ECW Homecoming. Not sure what the next step is after winning your match, but I know that the grand prize is a shot at Christian at the Royal Rumble.

Im hoping Punk comes back and wins and we get Punk/Christian at the Rumble, though it would take Punk out of the rumble unless he were to pull double duty or something..

So perhaps Swagger can find his way out of the doghouse and into the backyard again.

I'm a firm believer that anybody participating in a title match at the Royal Rumble should NOT be in the Royal Rumble match. They're already getting what everybody in the Rumble match is fighting for.

Nobody in the Rumble match is fighting for a shot at the ECW title

Its the ECW title though..

No one in the Rumble would be thinking "Gee, let me win this so I can curtain jerk WM for the 3rd rate Shows title"

I know that, but they have to at least pretend like it's a viable option. Didn't Tommy Dreamer say that he would use his title shot on the ECW title if he won the Rumble one year? Also, were Jack Swagger or Matt Hardy in the Rumble match last year? I forget.

Anybody notice Ted DiBiase saying "everybody has a price" in the opening video insted of Hogan saying "you know something, brother"?

It's basically about how they're going to kill off ECW. A bunch of guys from ECW's past and present (in WWE's version only, unfortunately) will face off in the main events of shows up until early January, and then on 1/12, the winners will meet to decide who gets the #1 Contender's spot for a title shot v. Christian, and whoever wins between that person and Christian will be the last (WW)ECW Champion.

I don't think that's really the case, though. It would make sense with the whole Homecoming thing, I guess, but I don't remember them mentioning that at all.

Obviously I want Shelton to win it, but I could see Zeke winning it. I don't want him to, but I can see it happen.

I wouldn't mind Swagger winning it and trying to fix whatever he did wrong to not to be getting the push that Sheamus is getting.

Swagger is usually more dominate from the get-go in his matches. That may be a good sign of him winning?

Who's in the Homecoming so far? Mark Henry, Kane, and Vance Archer? Another heel would be laying it on thick, but there ARE still 5 spots, and Bourne and Hardy will probably both win next week. Swagger's got a decent chance at it.

Tatsu doesn't bother me, he's just a less entertaining version of Tajiri's comedy character.
