Raycroft
I dont even like hockey by Raycroft > Canada
thank u |
Nah he's been pretty solid against a ton of American teams too
|
yea but america rules
|

um, the leafs just beat raycroft thank you.
|
the kids "standing on his head" to borrow a term...
He keeps playing like this, the Bruins go all the way. Hockey is the only sport where 1 player can completely change the outcome of a game. |
Guess VEL doesn't watch basketball.
|
...or a pitcher throw a gem of a game. (baseball)
|
...or a quarter back disect a defence (football)
|
I dunno about Football and Basketball having the outcome changed by strictly one guy the same way as hockey and baseball
|
he wassn't better today :o

See Hero, your missing the point, but I understand the need to boost your post count and all. a Goalie in hockey, much like that kickyball sport, can be on a shit team, and can change the game by shutting down the other team. I can see a close match from a baseball pitcher but he has to rely on his defense, he gives up an easy out pop-up and they blow the play, it's not his fault, he can lose 1-0 w/o giving up a single hit or earned run, but you can't compare a QB or Basketball player the same. Now given, a hockey Goalie can't score, but he can single handedly keep the other team from scoring, yeah, a baseball pitcher has that ability, but even in a no-hitter, a batter or two usualy put a ball in play and it's up to the fielders to make the play. |
VEL you are totally contradicting yourself.
A goalie needs a defense and offense just as much as a pitcher You put no defense in front of a goalie and it doesn't matter how good he is he will get killed. You give a pitcher a catcher and he has a way better chance of winning a game. |
I think baseball and hockey are the only 2 sports when a guy can really pretty muchsinglehandly win or lose a game
Raycroft played good even tho they lost..I know one of the goals wasn't his fault atleast |
A goalie cannot win a game singlehandedly. If Brodeur played for the Rangers, he'd suck.
|
However, if you're pitching a perfect game, the fielders can have a clusterfu</>ck at third base and it wouldn't matter.
Baseball is boring. |
Quote:
TIOE, if a goalie stops every shot, and has an incrideble game, it doesn't matter how the rest of the team plays. Now say a pitcher is throwing a great game, routine fly ball to center, the CF drops it, it rolls to the wall, batter ends up on 2nd, then it happens again. The final score could read 1-0, no hits, 2 errors. Not the pitchers fault. |
Well if we are going to start to just name off scenarios that don't prove much of a point
How about a goalie stoping all his shots but leaves the net for a delayed penalty, puck takes a weird bounce off the boards and goes in. 1-0 |
VEL is just being stupid.
|
Quote:
And clearly, where talking about when the player is actually in the game. How often has the Goalie left for a delayed penalty and the pucks gone in? not often, no where near a ball player making an error, or a slow throw, all things the pitcher has no control over. |
Defensemen put the puck in their own net, off their stick, their skate, etc. Refs make bad calls leading to goals. The opposing teams player screens the goalie or bumps him. One could sit here and make tons of scenarios.

Look, I'm not saying that in hockey, it's all about the goalie an no one else does anything, I'm saying that a Goalie has more opurtinity to control the outcome of a game then any other position player in any sport, w/ the exception of a soccer goalie who serves the same role (and water polo, lacross) any other sports w/ "Goalies". Baseball pitcher would be close, but as said, he can do everything he's supposed to and another player on the team can blow it... droped 3rd strike, passed balls, error's in the field. |
ONCE AGAIN
Raycroft > Canada thank u |
Stima no one is talking about Raycroft, this is about pitching vs goaltending
|
yea that is a really important issue too
|
Lets not forget that Raycroft was born in a place called Canada. Belleville if I remember correctly.

I've seen that point, and I disagree, same way they disagree w/ my view, but rather then giving examples, responding, discussing, Hero turns to name calling. I do agree, that Pitchers and QB's have a big part in the outcome of a game, and I'm not dismissing there examples, I'm just saying it's not the same. Completing a pass requires 2 people, a QB to throw and someone to catch it. If the other person doesn't do their job (catch) then the best QB in the world doesn't matter. A goalie on the other hand, while good defense helps, a goali can have horrible defense, be facing a 3 on 0 breakaway and make a great save, this doesn't require the work of anyone but the goalie. The closest to this would be a baseball pitcher, because if they strike everyone out, they are essentially doing the same as a goalie, however, it still requires a catcher to catch the ball and if the ball is hit, the fielders to make their regular plays. and yes, I understand a Goalie rarely scores, and at the most, might start a breakaway w/ a key pass. |
*jumps into discussion*
Even if a goalie stops every single shot he faces, if his teammates don't score a single goal then his performance is useless. Theoretically they'd go into several OT's until one goalie is too fatigued to play. The replacement goalie gets put in and lets a goal go by. They lose 1-0. Even the other team's goalie (if he's still in the game) doesn't get credit for being a hero, that press will go to the guy who scored the goal ending the longest OT ever. |

If you are going to talk about groundballs and pop flys and the such in a debate about the value of a pitcher vs a goalie then you have to include the goalie's defense too. You can't just toss out 1 defense and keep the other for the sake of the arguement.
|
haha I thought Raycroft was American
I guess not...oh well still tho Raycroft > Canada thank u |
nice 1 stima
|
Quote:
I'm tossing out, anything that rely's on a 2nd person, something he(or she) can't control. IE: you can stop every puck, but you can't make your offense score. IE: You can throw a perfect spiral to a wide open WR, but you can't make him catch. That's where I see the difference. |
Thus your whole arguement about outfielders dropping balls is invalid, which is what I was saying
|
Quote:
If a pitcher does a proper job, the batter never make contact, which takes the OF or IF out of the situation. However, you'll still have a catcher, and even if the pitcher makes every hitter miss, the catcher still must catch or apply a tag is missed. I know however that passed balls are rare. So, I would (I thought I said it before, if not my bad) agree that a baseball pitcher is as close to a goalie in hockey in terms of controling the outcome of a game. |
lol WTF Raycroft
|
I wouldn't blame raycroft tonight, Boston as a team didn't show up
|
yea they played like shit
LOL at another guy from Montreal taking a dive They are like the biggest pussies of all time |
Quote:
Cheebs, question for you, on the 3rd goal, thortons stick got taken out by the ref. The player w/ puck was in front of him, if thorton has droped his gloves and grabbed the guys jersey to pull him down, would it have just been a penalty shot? or would there have been something else? and yeah, WTF, did the Habs go to acting school? I loved the one who flopped on the ice and the refs wouldn't even stop for the "injury". Then the one Thorton hit, yeah, he hit him, but not to drop him like that... Also, WTF on the double penalty on Thorton... he gets checked into the goalie and called for interferance? |
1 game away canucks fans....... 1 game away!!!

Would have been nice to see the Bruins win it last night, I think the Bruins drop game 6 in MTL and win 7 in Boston. |

|
Quote:
the third goal probably would have just been an obstruction call. It could have been a penalty shot but it wouldn't have been probably. |
Wow, VEL's an idiot.
|
Quote:
|
damn Boston sure knows how to blow a playoff series
|
Quote:
I think they'll win tomorrow, but wouldn't be shocked to see them drop to Philly in 4 or 5. |
LOL I bet they lose
Just a hunch :$ |
I wouldn't be shocked to see them lose Tomorrow Montreal has a good history of beating the Bruins and I think raycroft my have fallen apart a little now... Not his fault but when your team doesn't play good infront of you your confidence becomes a little shakey
|
I wouldn't be surprised to see Boston lose considering that Montreal has been outplaying Boston in the last 5 games
|
Yeah sucks for Boston that Thornton's playing injured. Their top line's really getting eaten up out there
|
If the Bruins lose I will lose all interest in the NHL playoffs
They are the only reason to watch at all for me the 1st line is playin like shit.............RAYCROFT YOU STILL MY BOY |
LOL WOOOOOOOOOOOOO
|
Wooo hoo!!!! Go Montreal!! Next stop: Tampa Bay :D
|
Yeah nice to see Kovalev finally paying off for the Canadiens.
Even though I hate Montreal, it's always good to see a Canadian team advance. |
Oh and just to comment about the whole importance of a goalie situation... if anyone can tell me last year that Anaheim sans Giguere was a better team than Dallas and Detroit I will laugh at you eternally.
|
It's a tough one to take.
Raycroft played fantastic, but Theodore did too. I've heard that Thornton is more seriously injured than everyone thinks. This will give him time to heal but shit, this is hard to swallow. :( I'm proud of them though, they won the division and found gems in Raycroft and Bergeron. What made feel the most proud though was after the game when the team embraced Raycroft. He was what took us here in the first place and he was just incredible all season long. |
Yeah Raycroft is definitely one of the top candidates for the Calder this year. I'd be surprised if he didn't get it.
Nylander and Gonchar played pritty good that series too. Their top line (most likely due to Thornton's injury) looked really exposed in the past 3 games though. Montreal found a weakness and exploited it, that's pretty much how they won |
Montreal showed alot of heart, and I respect that. Besides Ribeiro, I have respect for their whole team.
Nylander was incredible, I hope we re-sign him instead of Murray if that's what it comes down to. Raycroft's definitely a lock for the calder, he was great all year. what really sucks is that this is probably the last Bruins game I'll be watcing in 2 years. Hockey's a big part of my life and it's going to hurt not looking forward to a game every other day. |
Apart from the Canucks, Montreal is my team. So of course I'm happy that they beat the Bruins. I've always liked the Bruins too, but well, hahaha... happy they lost.
|
Now that it's all over, Joe's injuries have been revealed.
2 Fractured ribs and a jammed wrist. Man, if we had him in our lineup (healthy) this postseason we could have really done something. |
LOL Bruins just choked so bad
3-1 and they lose the series Raycroft is still the man tho |
Quote:
Kinda sucks tho, I was pulling for Boston I guess Didnt really care for either team but I like Raycrofttt and Thornton so I was pulling for them |
Then again their captain having two fractured ribs and a jammed wrist had a little somethin somethin to do with it
|
Quote:
Thorton has 2 broken ribs and a jamed wrist, clearly isn't 100%, should he have been out there? I'll assume he had a flack jacket on or something (football QB's wear them when they have injured ribs, to help protect on hits) but the wrist also... Should the coach said "look your hurt, your on the bench" my guss is they thought they'd get past round #2, and he would heel more each day and didn't want anyone to know he was hurt or where to attack him. |
I don't think Sullivan could have kept him off the ice. Joe realizes that this would be his last chance in a looooong time to get the cup and his presence alone helped us a little bit.
If this was the regular season he would be on the IR list and probably not even working out with the team. He was a warrior for even dressing up and I wish the media would have just gotten off his back as they didn't even know what was wrong with him. |
HAHAHAHA ONLY MY TEAM IS LEFT BITCHES!!!!
|
Yeah he is one tough SOB thats for sure
Yeah my QB had to wear one of those when he got blindsided after a play one game, he still hurt when he did anything so I figure it doesnt help ALL that much just prevents any further damage I guess? Also gertner you are wrong |
yes gertner, not to mention, I was cheerin for the flames :p
|
Quote:
Your team Captin is hurt, and can play, but only 50 or 75%, would you rather that person on the ice full? limited? or bench? |
Bench, gotta do whats best for the team and if you have a healthy scratch that can play on the third line. I would much rather do that. Thornton was gonna play no matter what much like any player would want too anyways. but when you average 20 minues for 7 games and have no points and have a -4 rating I would have been benching him if I were the coach.
|
Quote:
So, how long will there be no NHL once the season is over? I'm saying at least a season gone, and when they come back, 2-4teams are gone/folded. |
if the players get locked out, I wouldn't be surprised to see the whole league fold
|
:(
