Your favorite movies of 2009
I really liked these movies this year:
Whatever Works Humpday Mary and Max Moon A Serious Man Big Fan I Am So Proud of You (20 min animated short film but the best thing I saw all year) I liked or kinda liked these movies: 500 Days of Summer Amreeka Antichrist Bruno Crank 2: High Voltage Fantastic Mr. Fox Inglourious Basterds Where the Wild Things Are Drag Me to Hell Food, Inc. The Hangover Rachel Getting Married I hated these movies: The Hurt Locker The White Ribbon Meh: Up Coraline I still want to see these movies from 2009: Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans Capitalism: A Love Story We Live in Public The Road The Cove Precious (Untitled) Harmony and Me Alexander the Last Hunger Tetro My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done Mammoth The War on Kids Trash Humpers When You're Strange New York, I Love You Paranormal Activity The Girlfriend Experience |
Someone else who loved Big Fan
I haven't watched many movies this year (well I have, just rented a bunch that were made prior to 09) so honestly the only movies I really liked were The Hangover and Big Fan. District 9 was pretty good too. Hated Inglorious basterds and Bruno was shit compared to Borat. |
Thumbs Up:
Inglorious Basterds UP Public Enemies Crank 2 Coraline Terminator 4 Adventureland Taken Thumbs Down: GI Joe Knowing Samantha Darko District 9 |
Dunno. Didn't have a lot of time for the movie scene this year, so I missed a lot of the good but obscure stuff that makes up triple a's list.
From what I saw, I'd say Watchmen Chocolate Observe and Report Up Taken Star Trek That's pretty much all I saw, besides I guess Transformers 2, the new harry potter, and GI JOE. But I wouldn't group those in the same class as the above mentioned flicks. |
Oh did doubt come out in 09? Just saw that on netflix and it was really good.

Really Liked
Goodbye Solo ( The only movie I saw this year that came close to being a masterpeice) Inglourious Basterds District 9 Moon A Serious Man Antichrist Big Fan Some other good stuff. Up in the Air The White Ribbon Star Trek Paranormal Activity Up The Hangover Revanche |
btw, if there is a single tiny part of you that enjoys martial arts movies, you need to see chocolate.

Inglourious Basterds Up Avatar Watchmen Funny People Paranormal Activity Drag Me To Hell The Hangover Star Trek I Love You, Man Zombieland District 9 Movies I still want to see very soon: Moon A Serious Man Whatever Works The Men Who Stare At Goats The Fantastic Mr. Fox Where The Wild Things Are Adventureland Fuckin horrible movies I saw in theaters: Terminator 4, Transformers 2, Wolverine, Halloween 2 Everything else = meh I was really bad about seeing a lot of movies I wanted to see this year. Probably because I couldn't get out much or do much movie watching for the second part of the year. Couldn't get my "arthouse" on. Most of what I did get to see in theaters were the first half releases, or the summer blockbusters and comedies. Really want to get around to seeing the ones I listed as they come out on dvd. |

Oh yea, I saw Angels and Demons too. That sucked
|
Precious was pretty damn good. Mo'nique was awesome in her role.
|
Didn't really see a lot of new movies this year, but my favorites were probably
Inglourious Basterds Moon A Serious Man Fantastic Mr Fox I Love You Man Pretty good: Star Trek District 9 The Hangover I think Moon was probably my favorite in retrospect. While the plot wasn't anything special, the way it all unfolded was brilliant |
Jennifer's Body :shifty:
|
Inglourious Basterds
Avatar Watchmen Star Trek Taken I Love You, Man Zombieland District 9 Whatever Works Adventureland Brothers The Road (500) Days of Summer Yeah, that's about it. |
I liked it. Not as much as the others, though.
|
The Hurt Locker was the best movie ive seen.
|
Definitely Up
|
Downloading Big Fan now, wanting to see it for a while.
Top 5 would probably be Gran Torino, District 9, Inglorious Basterds, Where The Wild Things Are, and Watchmen. |
i love it when Triple A does this as i pretty much get a download list going.
|
I'm going to attempt a top 10 list:
1. Inglourious Basterds 2. Up in the Air 3. Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans 4. Crazy Heart 5. Moon 6. Observe and Report 7. Star Trek 8. District 9 9. Funny People 10. Watchmen I always have so much trouble with top 10s. Past top five, I feel like I'm forgetting shit and panic. |
I can't find the Big Fan dvd anywhere. I mean to rent anyway. Blockbuster isn't carrying it and I don' have netflix or anything. I could buy it at WalMart for 20 bucks but idk if it's worth a purchase?

just watched Moon last night and it wins hands down.
|
A so so quality screener of Bad Lieutenant is online, and I highly recommend anyone check it out. It's complete insanity. Nicholas Cage is ridiculously good in it. It's like he's been acting weird all his life for this.
|
Just watched Mary & Max, completely in love with it. Thanks AAA for recommendation there, some of the movies you've mentioned over these 9 or so years I've been here have become my favorites.
|
Right everyone loving Moon a bit too much really. Watched it and it just never gripped me properly.
|
still have to watch, from TIFF:
White Material Antichrist Life During Wartime Hadewijch The White Ribbon The Dirty Saints Petropolis: Aerial Perspectives on the Alberta Tar Sands I Am Not Your Friend |
I just watched The Hurt Locker for a 2nd time and its still my favorite movie.

Zombieland. I like any zombie movie as long as it's not as bad as House of the Dead.
I Love You, Man. The most I laughed in a long while. |

Moon was awesome.
How can anyone dislike Up though? :( |
I thought Up was terrible
|
I thought it was really good, but I also didn't think it was anywhere near the top of the Pixar list.
That's something I've noticed. Every Pixar movie that comes out now is automatically considered the greatest thing ever. Pixar is an amazing company with an amazing track record, but it's now become the "in" thing to over-hype every movie. Toy Story is still the best of them. The Incredibles runs a distant second, and Wall E comes in third. Toy Story 2 is up there too. That's my 2 cents. Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., Up, Ratatouille are all great. Still, I wouldn't class them with those other 4 I listed. Somehow I never saw Cars or A Bugs Life. Should get around to that. Can't wait for Toy Story 3 |
I thought the first half hour of Up was pretty amazing, but I don't like how Pixar has to load their films with a whole bunch of chase/action scenes, Wall E was the same way. Still good movies though.

I mean it is a kid's movie so that is OK but it was annoying because everyone was hyping it up so much for some reason so I thought it would be "different." Was just an average kid's movie other than the beginning which was really good. |
|
I loved Crazy Heart...no wonder why!
|
3. Star Trek
2. Up 1. Avatar |
