I thought this was gonna be Fallout 3 DLC. But it's a standalone game.

I can't wait.

The text on the bottom of that flag at the end looks an awful lot like "California Republic" - could be the NCR from Fallout 2. Would be nice if it follows up on some of the stuff from that game.

That is what some people at other sites are already pointing out.
I think IGN or The fallout wikia did a full analysis of the trailer somewhere out there.

Any word on whether or not NV will feature VATS?

The third person option of F3 is pretty pathetic, but VATS kind of saves it for me.

Not yet, but there is virtually no chance of Fallout NV coming out without VATS.

VATS is to Fallout, as Jumping is to Mario.

KK I know you hate first person shooters but F3 is a lot better in 1st person then 3rd.

It will definitely have VATS. It was mentioned in the preview article in PC Gamer that they're adding new stuff for melee weapons to it.

If they don't use a new engine, I will continue to not care about this piece of shit.

What exactly was wrong with the Fallout 3 engine, pray tell?

It was the Oblivion engine with a new skin and a couple new features. It is an outdated, clunky piece of crap with terrible animations that doesn't look visually impressive at all, even maxed out, yet runs like CRAP.

My PC handled Crysis on high (not maxed) smoothly, and it looked incredible.

Fallout 3 on max doesn't come anywhere near the visual impressiveness of Crysis, and graphically lags to shit, even with some settings turned down.

The game wasn't fun at all to me. After the newness wore off, the faults were too distracting for me to enjoy myself. Just the feel of the game made me dislike it completely. It felt cheap, and I would rather not encourage laziness in developers.

Using the same engine twice is one thing. They tried it, and it 'worked', but it could be far better. Using the same engine a third time is just pushing it. It is roughly 4 years old, not including the time it took to develop Oblivion. With as much as technology has advanced, and with what developers have been able to push with consoles, there is no valid reason that you could give me that would justify them using the same engine in a 3rd game. It's not like they don't have the money to develop a new one, or to completely overhaul the current one.

And what is the 'point' of gaming, according to you?

I want to enjoy the games I play. I spent money and built a decent PC for gaming. It's not state of the art by any means, but it can handle games on mid-high settings and still look nice. That's not even the main reason for my disliking it though.

I can't enjoy a game that feels like crap. Oblivion, I can give a break. For when it came out, it was pretty impressive. The engine worked for that game because it was designed for that game. It had its faults, but I could deal with that because it was still up to par with, or better than other games of its time. It was new.

Fallout 3, is not new. I felt like I was playing a game that was made 5 years earlier. It didn't have anything to do with the game's features. It had to do with how the game played. If the game plays badly, why would I enjoy it? You're looking at it from the point of view of 'things to do', and yeah.. there were a lot of things to do. Places to go.. people to talk to. But I absolutely hated the way it played.

SO basically Req is saying its ok to Bang a Good Looking chick once, but if you do it twice you should fuck off.

I just dont see the "CRAP" Req. The game was a game of the year, critcally acclaimed and loved by a vast majority of fans. Because you didnt like it doesnt make it crap.

It's more like.. you banged that MILF/cougar because she was hot at the time. But 5 years later, her age has caught up to her and she's not looking so attractive anymore.

And come on... you would not think the developers were being lazy if they used the same engine in a THIRD game? That is what started this whole discussion... saying if they use the same engine again, I will not give a shit about their crappy game.

Honestly I dont care what engine they are using if the end product is fun, entertaining and polished.

I would rather they crank out another good game with the same engine than a shitty one with a new engine.

I kind of agree with Req here. I didn't let it ruin the experience for me and I enjoyed it thoroughly, but it did feel pretty cheap. The animations were close to awful and the character models nothing special.

It wasn't soul crushing, but it was definitely frustrating considering the potential of the game.

req, you probably should have installed some mod packs, including the hd texture pack and the fallout 3 overhaul kit. Fallout 3 with those packs, at 1920x1080 with full AA and Anso filtering, was absolutely stunning. And fucking awesome, as you get a shitload more guns, game is a lot more realistic. Absolutely loved that game.

A friend of mine brought his right back to the store after "dumping loads of ammo" into a Mutated Ant and couldn't bring it down. I suggested the VATS mode, but he didn't know what I was talking about...But went straight out and rebought the game again.

I love the slo-mo kills in that mode. :D

Yes, it looks exactly like FO3, but what do you expect when they hand it off to another studio AND say it won't be a sequel, but a spin-off?

Bethesda obviously want to make the true FO4 themselves

I HIGHLY look forward to playing and exploring this game. I put over 120 hours into FO3 and still don't it boring.

Sometime this fall. I don't believe a specific release date has been set yet.

Can't fucking wait. I still have yet to finish The Pitt and the Broken Steel storylines in FO3.

I've noticed alot of the UK retailers are giving you different preorder DLC, dunno if thats the same elsewhere.

I heard the demo is out on the 360.

I'm most certainly getting this when this hits store shelves. Fallout 3 was awesome, i'v got all the dlc which just adds so much more hours of play, i never beat it 100 percent.

Well you heard wrong. It's not there.

Oooo, towns have an attitude towards you. Following the main quest a bit instead of taking a sidequest that can skip a lot of the main quest. Never did get dogmeat on FO3 :'(

I haven't seen too many framerate drops, maybe I'm just not noticing them all. I have seen a bunch of radscorpions getting stuck in rocks, then when I'm fighting another one, the one stuck magically gets unstuck.

Just noticed there's no XP bonus for difficulty. Gonna play on Very Easy until I finish it an explore everything, then do the main quest only on Hardcore mode.

I bought Fallout 3 about a month ago...and seriously, I played it and got frusterated AS SHIT about it. I thought it was the worst game ever besides Kid Chameleon.

Then, after 5 hours, I finally found Galaxy News Radio and that got the ball rolling. It's fun as shit. I doubt I'll buy New Vegas though........maybe I will after I buy Smackdown

Saying Kid Chameleon is he worst game ever ruins any opinion you have about anything.

Also found a story bug in a side-quest where someone called me a monster because I helped him sabotage something when I persuaded him into believing the truth :|

I would wait and go that route on the second play-through due to not know what it was effecting..

I'm doing it the other way around, purely because my second playthrough will be in hardcore mode where it's more realistic anyway (Have to eat or get hungry, stimpacks heal gradually and don't heal limbs, need to keep hydrated and sleep as well). There's also apparently a special reward for staying in hardcore mode for an entire playthrough...

How is your mass movie storage journey going. Are you ripping the blu's yourself, or downloading them?

Save game, hack terminal, load game and the terminals already hacked but you lose the XP :mad:

EDIT: I know what's causing this. There's a massive memory leak happening. If you play for a long time, the load times start getting huge before eventually locking up. If you go to the dashboard and start the game again, the problems go away.

On the plus side, just got to a point in the main quest where there's about 4 paths. Sweet deal.

Played till 6 AM last night. This is awesome. A little tougher then Fallout 3, and the new ammo types and crafting stuff will take some getting used to. Sure there will be a patch for some of the bugs.

Downloading. And they seem to be pretty much the same quality as the originals. Still buying discs from time to time, adding to my "action" collection.

It's awesome when you go to the cemetery and you can hear faint voices. Creepy
