Heavy Rain

Played the demo on PS3. Pretty fucking cool. Great graphics. Like a PC adventure game on steroids.

Kalyx triaD 02-12-2010 06:08 AM

Third thread on this. Seriously.

Vietnamese Crippler 02-12-2010 08:11 AM

Not to mention one of those topics is still on the first page.

Vietnamese Crippler 02-12-2010 08:11 AM

I think DM's new gimmick is to post shit that's already been posted.

Anyone ever played the game Indigo Prophecy for the Xbox and PC? This reminds me of that.

Splaya 02-13-2010 02:54 AM

Was made by the same people I think.

Fignuts 02-13-2010 04:01 AM

Played the demo. Was pretty tight, but I'm waiting to buy new games, until I get my new tv in march.

It is...

Indigo Prophecy is one of the few games that I went back and played another time through on xbox recently. Loved the game except for the weird as twist in the story.

Hopefully this one will be just as amazing.

Taft 02-23-2010 07:37 AM

Picking this up later today. Kinda worried it's not going to be worth $60.

Fignuts 02-23-2010 08:20 AM

Apparently, there are like 60 different endings. So to say there is a lot of replay value, is an understatement.

Fignuts 02-23-2010 08:22 AM

Not getting my new TV till late March.

Waiting on FF 13 for it two.

Want to experience these games in as much glory as I can.

From what I've heard/read the ending is the same, you just find out about it in different ways.

Fignuts 02-23-2010 09:01 AM

Well there are 60 ways to find out about it then.

Taft 02-23-2010 09:25 AM

I'll find out in about three hours.

Then playing through it*

It is, but you have to be super into adventure games to make it past the first 2 hours or so. I put it in between a mix of Dreamfall and Indigo. Lot's of boring story elements that really are unnecessary (ala Dreamfall) such as feeding your kid; and not enough action (which Indigo mixed well).

After the first two hours though...

Well I'm in like 5 hours and you can see why the game is getting great ratings. Kinda think you have to be a fanboy to love it though. Really hope it's 60 different endings; otherwise, I don't see the replay-ability (so far)

Big Fat Mike 02-23-2010 03:12 PM

My roomates copy just came in...tempted to open it'

Icess 02-23-2010 03:16 PM

Just tell him it came pre-opened. What's the worst that can happen?

The pause screen is incredible on a very bizarre side note.

Taft 02-23-2010 04:45 PM

Okay, so I've been playing for about four hours now and I'm not really all that impressed. I liked Indigo Prophecy but this is really... meh.

So far it's seriously QTE: Heavy Rain. It doesn't really seem like the quick time events matter much at all, I sat through one without pushing anything, then re did it pushing all of them, and nothing changed. Dunno if it's like that through the rest of the game or not.

I can't really say I'm impressed by anything so far, the story's really engaging so that's always good. But I'm starting to feel like it's not worth the $60.

Icess 02-23-2010 05:32 PM

Yeah, it's really just playing a movie at this point for me. Been kinda taking breaks between episodes, and that's helped. Not something that I can just sit and play 6 hours straight.

Taft 02-23-2010 09:04 PM

Eh, I'm regretting this purchase already.

I know I'll end up playing through it again, just like you watch movies more than once.

I wish I had rented.

Fignuts 02-23-2010 09:17 PM

Also, glad it sucks. Too many games that I want, in the next few months.

AvP
MLB The Show
FF 13
Red Dead Redemption
Just Cause 2

And I still havn't gotten Bioshock 2, Fifa 10, or Mass Effect 2 either.

Haven't played the rest, but Bioshock 2 satisfies.

Mass Effect 2 feels really.. meh after Mass Effect 1. But it's still pretty amazing.

Fignuts 02-23-2010 09:32 PM

I'm more psyched for the other games I listed anyway. Particularly Just Cause 2, and RDR. Sandbox games are my favorite genre.

D Mac 02-24-2010 02:22 AM

AvP is kind of a let down I heard.

Fignuts 02-24-2010 02:30 AM

I'm a huge AvP mark though, so I will enjoy it as long as it is not terrible. Heard it was a lot like the old pc games which I really liked, so I've got no worries.

It seems like one of those love it or hate it type games.

PapaGeorgio 02-24-2010 10:04 AM

Im about 2-3 hours into the game and I'm really enjoying it. Even with all the reports of it starting slow, I'm liking it a lot. Also excited as if they are calling that the worst part of the game, things are gonna pick up big time. I do find myself having to remember to always keep controller in hand. Sometimes I may go to type something on laptop during a "cutscene" but the game is one long cutscene so got to remember that.

Big Fat Mike 02-24-2010 10:51 AM

I still have not picked up my copy. Stupid empty bank account.

Big Fat Mike 02-25-2010 08:22 PM

K it was worth it

ClockShot 02-26-2010 04:20 PM

Well I got myself a lovely little glitch. Feels like Far Cry 2 all over again.

Splaya 02-26-2010 07:12 PM

What happened

ClockShot 02-26-2010 10:16 PM

SPOILER: show
Well, I just finished chopping off my finger, and me and the girl are running from the cops. I get caught in the subway station and stopped playing for the day there. I go load it up today and it keeps freezing up. Can't replay old chapters or nothing.

Kinda like in Far Cry 2 when I hit the 67% glitch.

Metal Gear Yoshi 02-26-2010 10:28 PM

I bought it and played it for a few hours and then returned it the next day. I really couldn't be bothered to "play" the game. It was by no means bad, but I do feel it's getting a wide berth by video game "journalists" because it's so different from most titles. I respect what the dev team did but I don't see why they didn't add some good adventure game puzzles(maybe they do latter in the game) and I also don't feel as though the narrative couldn't be told in a more traditional game genre, I also feel that if your going to have a story driven game then the story should be superb which isn't something that I think the game achieves(keeping in mind I didn't beat the game).

The biggest let down to me however was that the decisions made in the game seemed to have little to no difference in the way the scene plays out. It's more regular novel than choose your own adventure.

Some of the good points are when the action picks up and there's a fight scene or action scene and also at making you feel sympathy and various other emotions for the characters. I really loved the P.I and felt depressed for the father when everything falls apart for him.

Again, the dev team deserves kudos for making a great looking game and for trying to push new genres but in my mind the game isn't worth full price.

Big Fat Mike 02-26-2010 11:09 PM

Thanks for your take

No probs mate.

PapaGeorgio 03-01-2010 12:13 AM

Finished the game, not sure what i think about it yet. Read about the other endings, and mine seemed to be one of the better ones. The last 4 or so hours I played straight through as things really picked up. I still do have some unanswered questions though that could be considered plot holes maybe. But overall fun to play through.

moonface 03-10-2010 01:18 PM

This game is crap. It's all about the graphics that is it basically. Stupid game will be taking back in the morning.

CSL 03-10-2010 01:35 PM

Trade you it for Modern Warfare 2

moonface 03-10-2010 02:06 PM

Done.

Was starting to get a little bit excited when I was the big fat guy, he was going seeing jonnys mum who's a hooker :D but no, not even a rape her button :(

will carry on playing till the football comes on. I'll let you know if anything good happens ha.

Big Fat Mike 03-10-2010 02:31 PM

lol "not even a rape her button"

moonface 03-10-2010 03:30 PM

"why the fuck is this game so fucking depressing"

Seriously, his kids dead, wifes a hooker, live in a dingy house and is emo fucked to death.

Omg this game.

moonface 03-10-2010 03:31 PM

Worst game ever.

moonface 03-10-2010 03:33 PM

If I was depressed I would be seriously considering "offing" myself right now.

Luckily I'm not, time for football :)

D Mac 03-10-2010 03:36 PM

lol moonface

D Mac 04-01-2010 04:49 AM

Finally getting to play this. Fucking great story. You get into it and want to fucking play more to find out what happens.

D Mac 04-12-2010 12:50 AM

Finally beat it. I was pissed when I found out who the killer was.

Had the good ending, saved the kid. Everybody alive, except for the obvious one.

The ending definately sets up a sequel.

Quantic Dream designer David Cage had said in a Gamescom 2009 interview that a sequel would be unlikely:
“I’m not sure there will be a Heavy Rain 2. I’m not a guy who does sequels, because, when you work on a story, you have something to say. It’s a response to a moment of your life and what you want to express.”

D Mac 04-12-2010 03:34 AM

It's all about the money, and this game did very well so I'm sure they'll make one.

...how?

Anyway, G and I finished this game recently. I liked it. I'm sorry that Moonface, Metal Gear Yoshi, and Icess didn't. Some of the voice acting was off. Sometimes there was a Boston accent and then the next sentence, he was British. All of the kids sounded weird too. The music was boring also. I think there was two or three themes that continually played throughout the whole game. It was still a fun game though. I'm going to look at the other endings and see what changes.

Um,

SPOILER: show
After you beat it and get a good ending with the chick alive, at her book signing some guy tells her she needs a better "challenge". And you can't see the guy's face.

Or did you not get that ending.

SPOILER: show
So did the poison in the final challenge actually kill Ethan? I drank it and then drove to the wrong address (even though it was 825 Theodore Roosevelt Road, which was the right address) and he just got out of the car and was just like "a restaurant? a fucking restaurant?" and then it faded away and I had to control another character.

In the ending, it showed Ethan and Shaun looking at a new apartment, obviously with Ethan alive, and with all of his fingers, even though I made him cut one off. What's going on there? Was that Shaun's dream or something? A bunch of things didn't make sense at the end of the game.

Oh, I guess in that video Ethan is missing part of his pinky. Dunno if I just missed that or what.

Ultra Mantis 09-21-2011 01:55 PM

SPOILER: show
It wasn't really poison, it was just a test to see if he was willing to sacrifice his own life to save Shaun's.
