Post your favorite sports One Hit Wonders
Guys who had one great season, then fell back to mediocrity.
Jose Lima http://cdn.bleacherreport.com/images...play_image.jpg 1999: 21-10, 3.58 ERA, 187 K's 2000: 7-16, 6.65 ERA, 124 K's |
Tim Thomas, sorry Bruins fans :(

Jim "Ace" "The Net Detective" "The Mask" Carey 1995-96: 35W, 24L, 2.26GAA, Vezina Trophy 1996-96: 22W, 31L, 3.82GAA, fades into obscurity |
José Théodore would also be a good choice.
|
Wasn't he a former MVP?
|
Miles Simon
http://i.cdn.turner.com/sivault/si_o...0407_large.jpg 1997: First Team All-American. Led Arizona to a National Championship. Final Four MVP. Chose to stay in school for his senior season, though seemed to be a sure-fire lottery pick. 1998: Drafted in the 2nd round. Played 5 NBA games, scoring 2 points. |
wow, Jim Carey, forgot about him. lol
Lima had a couple of good seasons. I remember him having a decent season with the Royals and Dodgers after his Houston stint. Plus he had a great season before his 21 game win season |

Mark Prior would be my baseball one

Fuck you Jose Threeormore has been really good this year. At least aside from the first month or two. Who was that dude on the Tigers a few years ago who started off leading the league in HR and then was deported to the minors the next year
|
Chris Shelton. I guess his one year really wasn't that great.
|
Lima had a couple good seasons, but never put up what he did in 1999. He won 16 games in 1998, but after 1999 he had a record of 33-62 and had ERA's of 7.77, 6.99, and 9.87.
|
Interesting fact about Chris Shelton: His middle name is Bob. Not Robert, Bob.

good call. good call
|
Chris Sabo is an even better choice.
|
Remember how incredible Jaret Wright was for the Indians in the 1997 World Series? Besides from his one good year with Atlanta, he was never the same.
|
First thought that came to mind was Dontrelle Willis. He had a few good years when he started out though. In 2005 he was real dirty but after that he's fallen off hard. He's had more than just one good year though so I guess he doesn't qualify.
I like the Miles Simon pick |

Also thought Jim McMahon of the Bears. His best year in the NFL when the Bears won the Super Bowl honestly wasn't even that good though. So it kinda just blends in with a couple of other average years he had lol
|
Derek Anderson and Braylon Edwards seem like locks to make this list.
|
Steve Beuerlein
http://old.irishsports.com/subscript.../beuerlein.jpg 1999: 4,436 yds. 36 TDs 2000-2003: 5,044 yds. 27 TDs, 28 INTs, 9-12 record |
Brady Anderson 1996 Orioles
50 HR 110 RBI .297 avg Most HR in a season besides 50 was 24 in 1999 Most RBI in a season besides 110 was 81 in 1999 |
Brady had a few good seasons before and after that. I would call it more of a career year than anything else. He went from a lead-off guy to a legitimate power threat, and then back to lead-off guy.

Michael Ricketts - 100 odd games (including a 'One hit wonder' Premiership season in 01/02) for Bolton, 40 odd goals, England cap. Fuck all since. |
Esteban Loaiza came to mind almost immediately.
|
Jalen Rose
|

Rasham Salaam http://i.cnn.net/si/2003/football/nc...butuka_all.jpg Tim Biakabutuka I'll never forget that monster game he had against Ohio State back in the day, rushed for over 300 yards against them. |
Oh snap is that a Shawn Springs sighting? Dude's still doing his thing in the NFL
|
Bob Hamelin
|
Wayne Gretzky
|
Vancouver Canucks' back up goalie Andrew Raycroft.
|
|
Could say this guy too, though he had a little better than one good year.

Chris Weinkie.
Last QB from Florida State during their dominance period but ended up waiting too long to go to the NFL since he was about 28 years old by the time he got drafted. Jack Delhomme Starts off being a 3rd string QB in the NFL and a decent player in NFL Europe but its not until 2003 when he really shined as a QB leading Panthers to the Superbowl. From 2003 - 2005 he was one of those rising star QBs but ended up declining badly once he got hurt and never was able to match his skills or stats from those good years. |
also Melvin Mora probably my favorite player of the last decade :(:(:(:(:(:(:(
had one ridiculously awesome year where he hit .340, 27 HR, and 104 RBI then never hit over .285 after that. |
Probably gonna make my next thread "Great College players who didn't do shit in the pros".

A lot of the names listed are people who were never good at the pro level, like Braylon Edwards and Maurice Clarrett.
Baseball is probably the easiest one. I'd throw out Koren Robinson, Dominic Davis, as two NFL players who come to mind. |
Braylon Edwards had 16 TD receptions in 2007.
|
Sam Bowie, 1984 NBA draft.
Number retired by University of Kentucky, selected to be on Team USA 1980 Olympic basketball team, and makes NBA All-Rookie team during his rookie season (1984-1985) with 10.0 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game. After his rookie season it goes all downhill with injuries causing his next 3 seasons to equal the games he played in his rookie season and never really went over 10 points per game in a season. Last 2 seasons with Portland he played a total of 5 games. |

He's no Koren Robinson apparently. Edwards didn't play for the Vikings so I guess he doesn't matter.
And Domanick Davis had 2 1,000 yard seasons. |
Oh snap I forgot about my boy Elbert "Ickey" Woods.
http://i.cdn.turner.com/sivault/si_o...0116_large.jpg Rookie year: 203 att, 1066 yards, 5.3 avg, 15 TD Rest of career: 129 att, 459 yards, 3.6 avg, 12 TD |
Maybe I haven't been paying attention then. I always thought Braylon Edwards had largely been a bust since being drafted.
I guess I, like most people, don't pay attention to what happens in Cleveland. I said Dominic Davis because he was considered one of the top running backs in the league for a brief period of time before abruptly leaving. Fairly certain he's not even active anymore, and he is not even 30 yet. |

Robert Edwards Rookie year (1998): Played 16 games (started 15) rushed 291 times for 1,115 yards & 9 TDs. Had 35 receptions for 331 yards & 3 TDs http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/robertedwards.png Blew out his knee during a beach football game during Pro-Bowl weekend. One of the worst blow outs I've ever heard of, almost had to amputate his leg below the knee. Ended up making a return in 2002 w/ the Dolphins, had 20 carries for 107 yards & 1 TD and 18 receptions for 126 yards & 1 TD. Never played in the NFL after 2002 (Although he did have some good years in the CFL). |
Absolutely hated when he got hurt since it killed the Patriots running game for a good 5+ years. They drafted Curtis Martin who was great then and when he went to the Jets in the Bill Parcells deal, they drafted Edwards and he looked to be the next great RB.
Side note :  Patriots actually have a current streak of drafting a player in the 1st Round with a last name starting with an "M" for last 4 drafts in a row since 2009 they didn't have a 1st Round pick (Mankins • Maroney • Meriweather • Mayo) |

Growing up in that area, that single tragedy led to a lot of kids staying away from the snow queen. One of my earliest memories was Lenny's death. |
One year wonder = one top year and nada else. Alot ofthese guys are people who just didnt live up to hype.
|
How did they create that hype though? By having one good year in college?
It's not like anyone posted a picture of Freddy Adu or something |

Ickey Woods is a good. |
Jonathon Cheechoo is quickly approaching this status.
|
Surprised no Bruins fans brought up Blaine Lacher. 19-11-2 in his rookie year 94-95. Was out of the league by 95-96.
|
I'm a huge Leaf fan and I remember Gary Leeman who had never scored more than 75 points in a season exploding for 51 goals and 94 points and never scoring more than 17 in a season for the rest of his career.
|
Alexander Mogilny is the Hockey Equivalent of Brady Anderson
|
You don't know a lot about hockey do you? 1 hit wonders don't break 1000 points in a career.
|
You dont know alot about baseball do you? Brady Anderson isnt a one year wonder either as we mentioned, I just made the comparison you fucking retard cocksucker.
All star players that has one year that set records. God I fucking hate you and the other losers who think they monopolize TPWWs hockey trade. |
PS
Suck my cock faggot |
Pair Anderson and Mogilnys career side by side and see if you can understand what I said
|
|
Being consistent after having a record setting season is not a 1 hit wonder. A 1 hit wonder has a record breaking season, then fades from the fans mind within 2 years.
And you do realize you are comparing one of the best Russian players to play in the NHL(to date) to a completely average baseball player right? |
