Wow, they’ve managed to squeeze loot boxes into this pile of garbage.

#BROKEN Hasney 10-02-2017 03:29 PM

Apparently no micro transactions though. Just looks like you unlock shit at random instead of what you want now and may only affect the career mode multiplayer end game.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0QB1GJUqKIc

Actually looks like it would be a fun mode. You know, if multiplayer ever actually worked without lag in this shitfest.

Probably time for Yukes and 2K Games to consider the idea of instead of certain wrestlers getting the full scan treatment, they just scan as many heads only as possible so less of the roster's faces looks terrible or goofy.

Fignuts 10-02-2017 05:22 PM

That is fucking horrifying.

Evil Vito 10-03-2017 12:13 AM

I understand a lot of the DLC uproar. I mean it's priced exactly the same as last year but there are way fewer downloadable wrestlers. Last year you had 28 DLC wrestlers in the Season Pass and that's not even counting the NXT enhancement pack (Nakamura, Jax, Crews) you had to pay for separately unless you got a special version of the game.

This year the number of DLC guys in the Season Pass is down to 10 and it still comes at the $30 price point. I understand why the DLC numbers went down with the larger on-disc roster, but I think charging last year's prices for it kinda sucks. $20 probably would've led to fewer complaints.

Or if they kept the $30 price I think one more pack to bring it to 15 DLC wrestlers woud've made it all a lot more palatable. Usually they come in packs of 5 and there are exactly 5 guys from 205 Live that were left out (Ali, Gulak, Nese, Daivari, Dorado) so that could've worked. I get why those were the 5 left out initially given they were the least featured guys in the division in the first few months, but people would've downloaded them to complete the roster and get their moves. Plus any of those dudes who are still around come next spring will probably be in 2k19 so they kinda coulda got a jump start on it by putting them in as DLC this year.

Universe mode stuff

https://wwe.2k.com/news/entries/wwe-2k18-universe-mode

Rivalries have intensities and can be "possible rivalries".

Storylines:

Quote:

One important thing we changed this year was how our story system handled calendars with inconsistent PPV dates. Our previous system wasn’t ready to properly handle WWE’s brand split and the multiple PPVs per month. For us, this meant overhauling our system for the most flexibility possible. This is more of a back end, behind the scenes change that we worked on, but the result is that rivalries and storylines will now work regardless of when they start and when the next PPV is happening.

I’m excited we can share these details with all of you, and I hope you enjoy the changes we’ve made. Our teams here at Visual Concepts, along with Yuke’s, has worked hard on these improvements and with re-working our story system, and I would love to hear everyone’s feedback.
Thank fuck for this basic feature.

Goals:

Quote:

Goals

One of the challenges we’ve faced with Universe is trying to articulate specific motivations for the Superstars. It’s easy to say everyone wants a championship, but there’s a lot more depth than that when you watch WWE’s broadcasting. As a result, we’ve implemented personal goals for Superstars that they can chase after as they compete in Universe.

Goals change for each Superstar based on various factors like their rankings and relationships. Champions want to defend their titles and the No. 1 contenders want to win those titles, close allies may want to form a tag team while a team on a losing streak may want to split up, and so on. Goals have an impact on the types of matches and rivalries that will get started for the Superstars. You’ll also have the ability to customize goals for Superstars so that you have some suggestive control over how Superstars can be booked.
That sounds interesting enough so you can book stories within tag teams and stuff I guess, but the example they use isn't very creative:

https://cdn.2kgames.com/wwe.2k.com/n.../universe6.jpg

Then there's this line:

Quote:

As you’re playing through matches, there’s a chance that one Superstar completely outclasses and overwhelms their opponents from the very start. Superstars with significantly higher attributes than their opponents can cause a squash match to occur, putting their opponents in a situation where they must mount a considerable offense to survive or suffer crushing defeat.
So I'm guessing that if it's Braun V Kendrick or some shit, Brawn can just wreck him unless something amazing (or a good player controlled character) overcomes him.

Whole thing "seems dumb" but honestly, I'll be slightly happy if I can just run an NXT with 4 PPVs a year that doesn't fuck up storylines. That's been needed for about 3 years.

#BROKEN Hasney 10-03-2017 10:42 AM

Jerichos 2000 entrance timing is wayyyyy off. Undertaker bangs his knee on the barricade coming off the ramp.

We didn't need either of those HHH's. We needed one with My Time or Higher Brain Pattern and that's it.

Evil Vito 10-04-2017 09:59 AM

Roman Reigns is the highest rated wrestler in the game at 95, because of course he is.

Gerard 10-04-2017 10:42 AM

Vaders entrance is pretty good, as said above timing is way off on jericho's and the hhh dx entrance, they aren't meant to appear til just after "break it down" hits in the music.

Evil Vito 10-04-2017 10:44 AM

Retro Jericho and Retro Taker's hair look like complete shit.

#BROKEN Hasney 10-04-2017 10:45 AM

Wow they really capured Vader with that theme music

Why did all of WCWs themes sound like they belong on a midnight USA network show?

As expected, Universe seems basically untouched. Fatal four ways, triple threats, and stipulation matches being booked for no rhyme or reason. Rivalries still appear to be little more than "a billion singles matches in a row" and while you can attempt to justify it by saying real WWE feuds aren't much better, that doesn't make it any less of a slog to play.

Yes you can simply edit the cards yourself, which is nice. But when you do that it effectively cancels the rivalry. You have to follow the rivalry the way the game sees it or you're not going to get cutscenes. So what's the point? To that end, most of the personal goals are just "win a match against my rival" too. Not very creative there.

The only cool feature I think is the attribute boosts/declines as people move up and down the power rankings. Back in the days when I did CPU sim feds, the real life main eventers were always going to rule the roost because the ratings were set and couldn't change. There was never a chance of Zack Ryder or somebody beating John Cena. Now you could actually push those lower card guys in such a way that they could hold their own against the CPU.

Having said all that, it's year 8 of Universe Mode and yet getting real enjoyment out of it is still going to require overriding pretty much everything the game wants you to do.

Oh and the Rumble looks like absolute shit. Only 2 people in the ring for 90% of the match.

#BROKEN Hasney 10-09-2017 10:42 AM

Guess who got a digital deluxe PS4 version for his birthday?!?!?

#BROKEN Hasney 10-09-2017 10:44 AM

Apparently this won't have 8 player online matches, making 8 man pretty shit. You don't want AI involved in an 8 man ladder match because fuck that, same with tags. But since the PS4 can only support 4 controllers at once, it means the mode isn't great.

XB1 and PC can support 8 controllers, but not sure if the game is using that or not.

oooo Arvind is a lucky guy!

Evil Vito 10-09-2017 02:45 PM

Saw a different Rumble vid. Just skimmed it. The good news is the ring filled up in that one.

The bad news is one of the first things I noticed was TM-61 brawling with each other inside a full ring. So much for tag teams helping each other like they'd claimed.

Everything that's wrong with WWE 2k18 (so far)

GOOD: Career and Universe don't seem as repetitive

BAD

Career and Road to Glory creation tools are VERY limited. Apparently can't even change the race? WTF? Hence the loot boxes.
Road to Glory maybe. Sounds good, but 2k's servers are a massive question mark
The build they played at the preview event had NO CUTSCENES FOR CREATE A VIDEO OR UNIVERSE. The devs said it was supposed to be there, but it broke and they were trying to get it back in. Wow.
PETTY THING: Why put a treadmill backstage when you can't run on it like HCTP?

I mean I don't give a toss about Career really, Universe is my wheelhouse and that's the mode I would be focused on most. I'll be interested to hear more as people play the game.

The early videos I saw didn't look promising at all with the game creating just non-sensical cards but we'll see.

Gotta prep myself because somebody will probably end up getting me this game for Christmas or something.

screech 10-12-2017 11:00 AM

Gonna pre-order tomorrow for PC. The DLC guys will be available later, right? What I would do for console is buy standard edition and wait to get the other stuff. Not sure if it's worth $90 if I can wait and get the stuff cheaper.

if you want everyone, I'd get the Deluxe version. Even if you bought the season pass, Batista and RVD will cost extra.
