Requiem 07-05-2011 01:43 PM

Wow, didn't realize he was that guy's son. Just looked it up and sure enough, he is. So that was his sword that Snow is carrying now. Jorah the Andal, aka Jorah Mormont. Probably one of my favorite characters. He is a traitor because he sold slaves, but he is obviously very noble with his intentions at times. I like that he decided not to go back even with a pardon, and stayed to watch Dany because he saw a different side of her than what he's probably known about the Targaryens. Probably knew that if anything went wrong, she wouldn't make it on her own. He's the only real friend she has in the whole world really.

Miotch 07-05-2011 05:53 PM

You do realize that he was Varys's spy right? And that his information led to the whole poison scene, which was why he was to get a pardon?

Requiem 07-06-2011 01:09 PM

Yeah, I got that. He's the reason they knew she was pregnant. But he changed his mind about it right then. Could have just let her die and been done with the entire thing right then and there. But he didn't, and now he is falling for her.

I have a feeling that Bran is gonna become a badass horseman/archer, and will fit in very well with the Dothraki when those storylines eventually merge.

Corporate CockSnogger 07-06-2011 09:23 PM

He's crippled and has had the occasional psychic moment. He's probably going to shave his head and recruit a bunch of mutants.

Miotch 07-09-2011 03:29 AM

Has anyone read the books? I'm a good way through the 3rd and kind of want to have a good cry.

Brigstocke 07-11-2011 03:52 PM

I started the first installment of the third book today.

The second book (and thus season, fingers crossed) is far better than the first. Lots of epic Tyrion scenes, Stuff from beyond the wall and a whole bunch of new characters are on the way. Some new 'magical' elements and a few surprises.

I would love to discuss the books in detail with you Miotch.

My favourite character seems to change with each chapter. I am in love with Tyrion, Jorah Mormont, Jon Snow, Theon Greyjoys sister, The Hound, and Quorin Halfhand. I cannot for the love of god decide who's fucking side Varys is on.

Miotch 07-11-2011 05:28 PM

Varys is on the side of the realm.

The third book shits all over the first two. It seems that every other chapter or so there's a giant FUCK ME moment or twist. Lots of people die. Lots of people you've come to know and love. :(

I've heard the 4th book is a bit dry in comparison to the first 3. I'm going to try to power through though because I've heard really good things about the 5th book release.

The Destroyer 07-11-2011 05:36 PM

Hey shut up about the books. :(

Miotch 07-11-2011 05:59 PM

No real spoilers up there. Does it really shock you that Tyrion has amazing moments or that lots of people die?

If I want to discuss a major event I promise you I will aptly label the spoiler.

Brigstocke 07-13-2011 07:08 AM

Miotch I think we should post a load of false spoilers without spoiler tags to annoy people.

Heres a good one.

Tyrion Marries Sansa Stark.

Ban Brigstocke imo. Seriously.

Brigstocke 07-14-2011 05:01 AM

May aswell, I barely have anytime to spend here these days :(

Stannis Baratheons shadow kills his own brother.

RP 07-14-2011 09:31 AM

Peter Dinklage got nominated for an Emmy

Brigstocke 07-14-2011 11:14 AM

'Gods be good' He will win it, I would hope he'd also trade the trophy for a nights wenching in Flea Bottom.

Rock Bottom 07-15-2011 07:29 PM

I dunno if everyone's all the way through yet so just to be safe

SPOILER: show
Why can Sean Bean never ever live ever?

Besides that (he's one of my favorite actors), this is a good show. I haven't really checked out many other medieval series but my brother recommended this one. It has great character depth and somehow manages not to be confined to just that. I began to realize toward the end of the first season that this show is about a much bigger plot than a handful of people and their struggles. It's really well done. When I compare it to other things I've seen that mostly revolve around characters, it's refreshing. Doesn't seem to have anything stale about it. I might end up reading the books, but I enjoy the acting so far.

Brigstocke 07-16-2011 04:46 AM

Part one of the third book is the best book I've ever read, and I've read all of the Adrian Mole Diaries.

Miotch 07-17-2011 05:13 AM

Book 3 is ridiculously good.

Brigstocke 07-18-2011 02:06 PM

It's nice that there are chapters from Jamie's point of view in the third book, I feel like I know him better now.

I'd like Jorah Mormont chapters too.

So many new questions too get answers for now.

Requiem 07-18-2011 02:13 PM

SPOILERS. I don't even want to know if a character still exists in whatever book. also I never got anything in the mail from you so I just bought the book.

Snowden 07-18-2011 02:46 PM

Just finished the first book, about to start the second one...absolutely in love with how much more "rich" the story is in the book.

Had a hard time moving very quickly through the first one on account of me knowing whats going to happen, but I feel like the rest of them are going to fly by.

Buzzkill 07-18-2011 07:03 PM

jfc stop talking about the books.

That just ruins the magic. Very convincing CGI though.

Brigstocke 08-04-2011 02:24 PM

Fuck, I thought it was a REAL dragon.

Requiem 08-04-2011 04:04 PM

Really convincing CGI in this show. :y: Good job.

Taker it Easy 08-13-2011 10:52 AM

There were many moments during season 1 that made me feel or think that this was a really bland show for HBO (considering their legacy of phenominal series such as Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Oz, Sopranos, The Larry Sanders Show). With this in mind GOT is a lack luster show for HBO yet there were some good moments, enough good moments for me to look forward to watching season 2.

Requiem 08-13-2011 03:12 PM

Disagree 100%

The production quality, acting moments, and now after reading about 1/4 of the way through the first book, the story. All of it is top notch. What I expect out of HBO is -quality-. Not huge twists, or a lot of swearing. Not sure what you expected as I don't care much for, or really have much experience with any of those shows except for Curb Your Enthusiasm.. and any comparison to a show with absolutely zero similarities is pretty unfair.

I see GoT as very similar to Rome and Band of Brothers as far as 'what they were going for' and just the feel of the show. It's not some week-by-week show. It's a story show, and it did an excellent job of telling the story.

Requiem 08-13-2011 03:13 PM

If this show keeps up with as many seasons as there are meant to be books, I have no doubt in my mind that it will go down as one of HBO's best shows.

Requiem 08-18-2011 12:31 AM

BOOM

<----

Requiem 08-18-2011 12:32 AM

Also, Brigstocke.. I never got anything in the mail from you. :(

But I went out and bought the book anyways, and I'm about 400 pages in and loving it. So many details they left out of the show. Some things I don't know why they didn't expand on, like the Hand's Tourney.

Miotch 08-18-2011 01:40 AM

They had to fit it all into 10 episodes.

Requiem 08-18-2011 01:46 AM

Yeah I get that. Think that episode would have been AWESOME though. I mean, didn't they stretch the tourney between two eps anyways? And it wasn't even all of it. Like,
SPOILER: show
The Hound actually jousting and kicking Jaime Lannister's ass. Or how the Lannisters had actually planned on killing the King in the melee.

Requiem 08-18-2011 01:47 AM

Some of the stuff they left out just gives you a different impression of certain characters. Some of it, I get though. Like pointless details that wouldn't change much.

Requiem 08-18-2011 01:48 AM

Any word on how many episodes the 2nd season will be?

Buzzkill 08-18-2011 02:32 PM

Pretty sure they announced it would be 10 episodes again and lots of ppl "freaked out"

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-18-2011 02:34 PM

The author of the books must be making a bundle at the mo; Waterstones and Tesco seem to be selling alot of them and have deals going on and stuff.

Riker 08-18-2011 02:37 PM

I wont spoil anything, but I hope they slightly shy away from the books. They were nearly dead on in season one, and I just dont think the coming books will adapt in the same way - just too much going on. I nthe Intro season it worked.

Plus with the books constant killing of characters and introduction of new ones, the series would tear through 300 actors a season.

By far this is my favorite show on television. Slightly edges out Sons of Anarchy

Miotch 08-18-2011 03:32 PM

Seasons 2 and 3 are going to be ridiculous. They may lose a bunch of people during season 4 though.

And Req, I get what you're saying but what would you have had them leave out?

Requiem 08-18-2011 03:55 PM

DUNNO. Read like another 90 pages last night. Loving this book. Can't wait to read the next already.
