Ronda Rousey leaving WWE?

BREAKING

Quote:

There is a very good chance that Ronda Rousey will be finishing up with WWE at WrestleMania.

If that’s the case, she would likely put Becky Lynch over more likely then Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania, given that would be what the fans would want.

There was a decent amount of talk this past week internally, since we heard it from several people, that Rousey would finish up at WrestleMania.

Also read somewhere that WWE plans on a Tag Team division reboot, just like the Women's division had. To keep the Revival Happy. Also why Hawkins and Ryder are reunited.

Ol Dirty Dastard 01-24-2019 09:56 AM

I wonder why she'd be done already. Seems rather unceremonious.

Diving into the Wrestling Observer newsletter and here's some more Ronda and other news

* Right now, there is no hard and firm last day, but the working idea, which has been the case since January 2018, is that Mania 2019 is the finishing date. The discussion right now is whether Mania is it, or maybe she does the PPV after Mania. We’ve been through enough Brock Lesnar situations to know that Vince McMahon, come the last week, will make great offers and change finishes to shock people, especially at WrestleMania.

* Right now the proposed top of the card for WrestleMania does not include an Undertaker match this year. That could always change as we get closer to the event. Nothing official has been decided regarding Cena, partially because nobody knows what’s going to happen with Lars Sullivan, who has been told he’s welcome back when he’s ready.

* Tickets for Royal Rumble and RAW/SDLive are not doing well. The Royal Rumble will be set up for 43,000 fans but only 25-30,000 are likely at this point. Parts of the baseball stadium will likely end up being tarped off. RAW and SD are expected to do 6-7,000 for the two nights after the Rumble. Takeover, however, looks to sell around 8-9,000 seats.

* Sonjay Dutt and Abyss are expected to work backstage in WWE for the NXT brand.

I thought Ronda was a big part of them getting so much money from FOX.

I speculate this means she has a multi-year deal for her likeness to be used in things like WWE2K and merch, but her in-ring deal was only 1 year.

XL 01-24-2019 01:24 PM

I can’t see her going anywhere.

ClockShot 01-24-2019 01:29 PM

Sounds like she was serious about wanting kids and starting a family.

Swing and a miss from Dave

Bad News Gertner 01-24-2019 03:17 PM

How is that a swing and miss? Shes probably gonna leave for a bit and come back.

Triple A 01-24-2019 03:22 PM

Yeah the TMZ thing just cites Pro Wrestling Sheet as their source... and Pro Wrestling Sheet says that Rousey told WWE at around Survivor Series that she was going to take time off to start a family after WrestleMania... So she is gonna be out for at least a while... Also Meltzer said she will probably have a part time role like The Undertaker or something still

Evil Vito 01-24-2019 03:22 PM

Taking a break is one thing, Dave made it sound like she'd be done outright.

Triple A 01-24-2019 03:25 PM

Yeah he did word it weirdly... He basically said she was "finishing up" with WWE but then later says, "She will probably remain affiliated with the company afterwards. It’s certainly possible for her to have a role like Undertaker or John Cena or others where she comes back at times."

Evil Vito 01-24-2019 03:29 PM

I always expected she'd eventually become a part-timer and just work the big shows. Frankly I thought that's what she was going to do right out of the gate so I give her credit for working close to a full schedule this past year.

Brad Shepard pwning Dave Meltzer again

Wonder if Dave is 'humiliated' by all this tbh...

slik 01-24-2019 03:31 PM

I like Dave

- But it's really annoying on Twitter to see people who worship everything he says/blindly defend everything like it's some weird cult of neck beardedness

Triple A 01-24-2019 03:47 PM

Isn't "Brad Shepard" affiliated with that "Ringside News" site which is supposedly really shitty and got banned from Reddit 4 spamming + making up fake news

slik 01-24-2019 03:53 PM

He is friends w/ that guy

Brad super annoying too but he does post some legit scoops so I let it slide, ex: Brad 100% confirms WM36 will be in Florida.

slik 01-24-2019 04:05 PM

If Ronda is only full-time for a year it does make perfect sense why she got the belt so soon. My only fear is they will do a triple threat at WM and have Charlotte pin Becky clean now. Crowd would be 'hostile' ala Roman Reigns WM matches.

I fail to see how this discredits Dave.

Brad spends too much time trying to "get" Meltzer.

slik 01-24-2019 04:42 PM

Gertner good example of Cult of NeckBeardness r/n

Dave literally said she was done w/ WWE at WM and the plan was she always would be done at WM35. Later he says maybe she could come back but multiple people told him she is done at WM35 or the B show after it.

WWE then issues press release disputing and discrediting that via TMZ, a media outlet they prefer to work with often.

Rammsteinmad 01-24-2019 04:45 PM

I really couldn't care less. I know I'm still living in 2001 but I really don't care about any of the women wrestlers. I barely care about anyone in WWE at the moment, let alone a forced-down-our-throats revolution.

slik 01-24-2019 04:47 PM

You are not alone in that my friend.

A lot of the talent today is incredible in the ring -- but don't have a defined character/all the feuds and babyfaces are the same r/n

Fignuts 01-24-2019 05:05 PM

Yeah some of the women are legit talented, but most of them have no direction whatsoever besides “I have a vagina”.

Becky got over on accident ffs.

Lol of course they are going to do that. They are going to have another Lesnar/Goldberg situation if they don't.

I'm willing to bet she leaves after Wrestlemania and probably won't be back for a long time.

slik 01-24-2019 05:31 PM

I agree w/ you Gertner

I think she'll be back...but if she leaves to have a kid, no way we'll see her for at least a year and a half.

Bad News Gertner 01-24-2019 05:47 PM

Exactly. Lol if others did the same we wouldn't have so many guys being stale as fuck.

Emperor Smeat 01-24-2019 07:11 PM

Been pretty much an open secret since maybe last year's Mania that Ronda never had any real plans to be a full-timer in the WWE. She wanted to be a wrestler after her career in UFC was over because she's a big fan of wrestling but also as something to do before settling down to start a family.

If I had to guess, she probably takes a break till SummerSlam or right before the next NFL season starts since FOX will likely want her around to help promote Smackdown's move to their network. Any longer of a break and I could see FOX get somewhat upset since they made the tv deal under the assumption Ronda would be around for Smackdown's debut on their network.

RP 01-24-2019 08:40 PM

I hope Ronda does not go. I really like her. Her promo's need a bit of a fine trim, but her in ring work is amazing. I actually cant wait for her and Sasha to go at it.

xrodmuc316 01-24-2019 09:24 PM

Ronda has said outright that she has never had this much fun in her life. She is I believe only 31, so it's not like biologically she is out of time. There is still big money in the horsewomen feud, as well as the follow-up when the other 3 turn on her. Shayna vs Ronda feud would be really good, as they could amp up the physicality.

Ronda might take time off, become part time, or go on maternity leave, but she isn't leaving WWE.

RP 01-24-2019 09:39 PM

31 might not seem biologically out of time, but she's put her body through a lot. She may want to be able to play with her children as they grow up. You add up all her training and real fights and WWE bumps and her body has taken a toll. I think it probably counts when you raise a child late in life.

Ol Dirty Dastard 01-24-2019 10:12 PM

Dave Meltzer is the WWE of dirtsheets. Always catching flack, but he's unrivaled in his success.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2019 01:21 AM

Yeah, I don’t see anything “owning” Dave. Sounds like Ronda might be taking some time.

Fignuts 01-25-2019 01:27 AM

He gets it right, like 90% of the time, but when he gets something wrong its this big "gotcha" moment and everyone acts like everything he says is wrong.

Dude can fuck off with that +5 stars shit though.

Bad News Gertner 01-25-2019 01:31 AM

Exactly

Emperor Smeat 01-25-2019 03:08 AM

According to Meltzer, WWE might consider "freezing" Ronda's contract if she does end up taking a break for whatever reason. Right now her deal currently expires in April 2021.

Mr. Nerfect 01-25-2019 06:52 AM

I think the decision is going to be amicable. I can see her taking a few months off for a “re-launch” closer to the FOX jump.

Yes I agree. Also I just want to point out that it's so amazing how Ronda showed up at The Rumble and at this point is one of the best workers in the division. Her growth was incredible. If I were WWE I'd do whatever I could to keep her around in the future even if that means giving her a rest for now.
