In the mood to watch a really good WCW Nitro episode
Are there any specific ones that stand out as being particularly really good?
Same question for Attitude-era WWE Raw also actually... |
What about July 6th, 1998? Culmination of massive build to Hogan vs Goldberg in free TV. Crowd is insane for it too. Very fun.
|
Yeah it's a really great show.

The May 27, 1996 episode where Scott Hall first shows up as an "Outsider"

I don't know if there was ever a start to finish great Nitro, but going off Goldberg, the match he had with Raven to win the U.S. Title has that same incredible energy from the crowd.

That Goldberg v Raven US title match is one of my all time favorites and maybe my favorite Goldberg match. Just a perfect cluster fuck.
|
The reason I liked the Raven versus Goldberg match is that the I thought it'd be the end of the streak due to the Flock's chicanery. I hadn't even turned 11 and I figured since Raven had just won, and was able to beat DDP (who I saw as a main eventer), that he'd win via shenanigans. Especially, since it was WCW, I always figured the heel would win.
When Goldberg just murdered the flock, I was fucking pumped and realized we were dealing with someone special. |
Any links would be hugely appreciated if anyone has a particular episode in mind.

July 29, 1996 is a fun one. It’s a couple weeks after Bash at the Beach and the Outsiders attack everyone in the back the most memorable was Nash throwing Rey Mysterio like a dart into the side of a truck.
At some point the real fire department shows up because fans were calling to report the incident. Great stuff. |

Good man

WCW just constant fun in the early-ish 90's before nWo made it cool.
I love everything about WCW in the 90's. |
July 29 Nitro also features a picture perfect Steiner Screwdriver. So bonus points there.

Nitro 8/9/1999 was a pretty good one from 'the dark era' of WCW
the return of the red and yellow |

It is the same gripe I have with NXT since it went live. Randomly showcasing a 205 live or UK segment just because doesn't mean it flows with the show. That is one of main praises AEW consistently gets, that the 2 hour shows seem to fly by. That is because they generally have the entire show flows together without out of place things just shoved in. There are many great segments from WCW, but if the entire concept of the nWo angle was legit, then it made no sense to have random WCW vs WCW matches. Even the above mentioned episode where Goldberg won the title from Hogan, other matches on that card included: Kanyon vs Raven Scott Putski vs Riggs Chavo Guerrero Jr vs Johnny Swinger The Public Enemy vs Alex Wright & Disco Inferno The Giant vs Jim Duggan DDP vs Jim Neidhart Lex Luger & Sting vs Kidman & Sick Boy On the night Hogan and the nWo finally got dealt a decisive defeat at the hands of WCW's top guy, they had 7 completely random matches not including title matches or the cruiserweight match of Juventud Guerrera vs Psychosis. The majority of that episode was completely irrelevant. None of those matches were really building towards anything. None were technical masterpieces. Hell, the longest match of all of them was 5 minutes and 1 seconds long. They were all just filler, and not even good filler. Hence, not a great episode of Nitro. Off the charts highpoint, but not worth watching all that filler just to get to the highpoints. Just stream the great stuff. |

Been going through the '96 Nitros. Damn...Nick Patrick was the founder of "Fake News"..
|
Luger winning the WCW World Title actually popped their business for a little bit, didn't it? Well, one initial ratings spike and the reign didn't last long, haha.
|
Wasn't it something like the 100th episode of Nitro?
