Forest of Purgation near Wispermill, is this where I'm supposed to go for this boss?

Yeah, they are polar opposites of the FF7 super bosses. You pretty much have to lose so you can figure out how to win, I'm a fan.

Yup. It is side quest tied type of dungeon but I assume you pick up all the quests.

Ultra Mantis 08-07-2018 07:41 PM

I just went to the end and there's no boss there haha, guess I haven't got that quest. I took the farmer's quest about his sheep, then a Merchant on the road gave me some info, maybe I need to do something with that first.

Ruien 08-07-2018 07:53 PM

Naw you have what you need. Super small spoiler about that

SPOILER: show

Boss isn't at the end. Go north when you first walk into the forest

Ultra Mantis 08-07-2018 07:55 PM

Ah yeah thought i'd open up the regular chests while I was in there and just stumbled across it, scurrying back to the save point right now haha.

Ruien 08-07-2018 08:00 PM

Ima be so pissed if you 1 shot him.

Ultra Mantis 08-07-2018 08:25 PM

Oh she (?) got me haha

SPOILER: show
Well, technically her puppies did. That combination of only weapon weaknesses with no multi-hit skill, high HP and high atk is just lethal. Once she gave birth to two at once I was fucked. Didn't even get her down to yellow.

Ruien 08-07-2018 08:32 PM

SPOILER: show

Exactly how my first encounter went.

Ultra Mantis 08-07-2018 08:50 PM

I cant even figure out a good strategy on that right now.

SPOILER: show
Scholar is a waste most turns but you still need it for when breaks are available, but you need a Scholar who can use weapons. Thief Cyrus or more likely Scholar Therion (so I can run Thief Ophilia too for debuffs) seems like the best option for multi-hit daggers on the pups, but they are my worst party members by far atm. Hunter of some kind seems like a requirement for leghold trap, maybe Olberic. Alfyn there for breaks / damage. Gotta get Therion up to speed before I can test this.

Sorcerer is the only one I have. Haven't even done my first chapter 3 yet LOL. Got it with a party of 52 Haanit/Warrior, 50 Therion/Merchant, 49 Alfyn/Scholar and 47 Primrose/Cleric. Click the spoiler if you want a strategy for how to handle the fight.

SPOILER: show
Make absolutely sure you go into the battle with saving grace on everyone. This is key. Also make sure to use your boost to break this bastard before his first turn or else he will put a lock on your ability to buff yourself for 5 turns. This should be easy enough by using a single boost physical from one person and a double cast spell from Alfyn as his initial breakpoint is only 4.

You want to use Haanit to keep leghold trap applied. That's her purpose entirely. If you apply it with boost you'll get a bunch of turns on the sorcerer with it, which frees you to stockpile boost and possible get off the warrior divine a time or 2 before needing to reapply leghold. Feel free to also use her to occasionally pop an item if you need to.

Therion is there to assist with breaking via boost and to use SP/BP items on the others as needed. You can also use hired help if you have the spare money and want to.

Alfyn is going to be used for 2 purposes. His first is the most important. You want to get his BP up as soon as possible and use the Apothecary divine on him, then the next turn use concoct to mix a purifying seed and essence of grape. This is going to give everyone 9,999 health and buy you the time you need to set up the rest of the strategy since this guy will get 2 triple cast spells in per turn. After you do this, alfyn is there to break the sorcerer and cast max boost double spells when he is broken. Obviously you can reapply the health buff with him if you get back below max health, but if you play this right, you'll never need to.

Primrose is the most important person here with the dancer/cleric set up. If you get the sorcerer broken before his first turn, you're golden. Otherwise you will have to use her to heal and stall until his buff lock on your characters wears out. What you want to do is feed her a big pomegranate and use the dancer divine on her. Then the next turn you want to boost reflective veil. This is going to give everyone reflect. Keep stacking this up to higher counts (9 is the max). Keep casting it while you rebuild bp for the dancer divine again. When it is down to 2-3 stacks and you have the required bp, recast dancer divine and start restacking veil. As long as you keep doing this cycle you will never get hit by the sorcerer. Each spell it casts on you will reflect onto it 12 times, so when it uses a spell it's weak to at the time, it will also be breaking itself. After a few minutes, the sorcerer will commit glorious suicide.

I've also just given the warmaster a first run. I get the feeling that you NEED sorcerer for this battle. Got it to red before it changed the whole game up and viciously booty raped me. And it went in dry.

Ultra Mantis 08-07-2018 09:02 PM

All the Shrine bosses seem to be like that, lull you into a false sense of security then as soon as they get in the red it's all out FUCK YOU TRY AGAIN.

Sepholio 08-07-2018 09:17 PM

Have you done the warmaster yet? If not just wait until the fuck you moment occurs lol. You'll know as soon as it happens, rest assured. I'm not even sure how to approach it atm. Trying to come up with a different strategy than what I had on the initial run.

Ultra Mantis 08-07-2018 09:44 PM

I fought him a few days ago, I don't remember exactly what happened. Went in with a party including Tressa and Therion, which isn't my usual tactic but I held my own easy enough. I know I had him in the red, broke him, buff/debuff, hit Brand's Thunder for maybe 12k damage.

He didn't go down, but immediately afterwards, I did.

Sepholio 08-07-2018 10:17 PM

WOOT I just took the down the warmaster. Same strategy I used the first time with one tweak. I forget the usefulness of the clerics divine sometimes lol.

Destor 08-07-2018 10:28 PM

Went to do the lvl 58. Wondered around it for 45 min. Gotnalk the chests...got frustrated and looked it up.

Side quests for this area dont open until youve done Ophilias ch4. I wont be doing that until after i get the next 3 jobs...tbc

Sepholio 08-07-2018 10:39 PM

I'm going to clean up a few sidequests and get my last 2 jobs then I'm going to push through chapters 3 and 4. I feel having these jobs will be a big help in chapter 4 and I want a little bit of time to get used to them and figure out their place in my general strategy.

Sepholio 08-07-2018 10:39 PM

Think I'm about to go after the runelord right now, actually.

Sepholio 08-07-2018 10:41 PM

Runeblade, actually.

Sepholio 08-07-2018 11:53 PM

3 down, starseer to go. Sorcerer is rape mode when you use the cleric divine on them.

Destor 08-07-2018 11:56 PM

Got distracted with optional caves and looting towns. Game is a blast. Hopefully ill get no.2 tomorrow

Sepholio 08-08-2018 12:12 AM

Looting towns is just the bees knees. Grandport is a treasure trove of goodies lol.

Destor 08-08-2018 12:18 AM

Sounds like i know where my next stop is

Also finished my first tier 3 side quest. Reward was a solid piece of armor and a large hp nut...worth it.

Spoiler to help you out on your next destination:

SPOILER: show
In the first area of Grandport there is a guy guarding a house. Challenge/Provoke him and get his ass out of the way, then go inside to find another NPC. Have Alfyn or Cyrus scrutinize the person, though they need to be level 50 or higher. The NPC will give you thieving tips and tricks and make your loot run MUCH easier. There are soooo many NPCs with soooo many good items to be had there.

Finally got all of the jobs out of the way. Haven't done much with the Runelord yet but I can see a couple things you could do with it that would make it incredible already. Sorcerer and Warmaster are both invaluable. With those 2 in a party you are guaranteed to be able to hit any weak point an enemy has. Haven't tried the Starseer yet because it seems like you almost have to use it on Ophilia or have someone else in the party equipped with cleric to have access to more reliable healing.

Destor 08-08-2018 05:04 PM

Starseer has a triple hit skill that does light dark and wind damage. Thats really useful imo

Ultra Mantis 08-08-2018 10:12 PM

Beat Warmaster fairly easily thanks to Leghold Trap and then Sorcerer with the greatest of ease. Sorcerer didn't even trigger his FUCK YOU mode so I must be a little bit overlevelled for him.

Not sure what the best set up for most of the extra jobs would be, Runelord would make best use of Sidestep or Reflective Veil but I put it on Olberic because how could I resist Mystic Knight? Sorcerer will likely be Prim, maybe H'aanit Warmaster. Field tests required.

Going to jump back into Ch4s tomorrow. Maybe go after the Leviathan boss because I can probably squash it at this point but I'm interested to see the Octopath take on him. Hope he's an eldritch horror tbh.

Sepholio 08-08-2018 10:22 PM

H'aanit is currently my warmaster and it's working well so far.

Tressa is definitely the best possible use of runelord. Transfer rune into sidestep is ridiculously OP. My Tressa is a bit under leveled though so I currently have Runelord on Therion to assist with breaking enemies quicker.

I have Sorcerer on Alfyn. I dunno why but Alfyn is just my dude for the mage classes. His ability to carry axes makes him great for it as there are a couple axes that have really high elemental atk, and it still allows him to have access to halfway decent physical attacks if necessary. Also the apothecary ultimate allows me to overheal everyone easily, so he is kind of indispensable. Easily the most important member of my main party.

Sepholio 08-08-2018 10:23 PM

I fucking love this game btw.

Ultra Mantis 08-10-2018 01:48 PM

Alfyn (& OCTOP) Ch4

SPOILER: show

Aflyn's Ch4 is the most low stakes so far, his 2 and 3 were amazing but he never really had a strong arc and it shows here. I did laugh at the absolute convenience of being in the exact town he needed to be in to get the incredibly rare ingredient. The big reveal at the end saved it from being an absolute mess, though if I hadn't played Tressa first the reveal would have meant absolutely nothing. Pretty cool way to tie him in and Alfyn is perhaps my favourite character, shame he has such a weak finale.

Sepholio 08-10-2018 08:14 PM

I've done all the side stuff other than the 2 level 55 dungeons and the level 58. Finally starting on Chapter 3's now. My B-team is roughly the appropriate level for these chapters, but my A-team is sitting in the mid 60s at this point so everything is a cake walk. Which is fine. I can breeze through for the stories and to start opening up post chapter 4 quests and the end game which is what I'm really keen on atm.

Ultra Mantis 08-10-2018 09:13 PM

After beating all Ch4s, following up on my TRAVELER observation

SPOILER: show

Therese
Revello
Ali
Vanessa
Eliza
Lianna
Erhardt
Ravus

Ravus is a bit of a stretch but technically Lady Ravus is important, even though she goes by Cordelia. The main debunker here though is Vanessa, who is of absolutely no importance whatsoever and would actually be Ogen. Octopath Traoeler?

Ultra Mantis 08-10-2018 09:14 PM

My Ch4's ranked btw

SPOILER: show

Olberic
Ophilia
H'aanit
Cyrus
Primrose
Tressa
Therion
Alfyn

Ultra Mantis 08-11-2018 01:11 PM

Beat the Forest of Purgation boss

SPOILER: show

Thief Ophilia Lv 71
Warrior Alfyn Lv 67
Merchant H'aanit Lv 64
Scholar Therion Lv 55

Was a REALLY long fight but there was only really one spot near the end where I was in any danger, kept him / her debuffed with Leghold Trap, Shackle Foe and less importantly Armour Corrosive and most of my damage came from Brand's Thunder. Everyone had Saving Grace, Therion and H'annit had Patience equipped which was a real clutch ability. Using the Hired Help mercenary for a defence buff either mitigates damage or wasted one of it's turns because it will do an AOE low damage dispel instead of the high damage attack debuff. The only real danger comes from the little wolves, Theif needs to break them ASAP, staggered ideally so you only have to deal with one per turn and then when you have the boost Brand's Thunder the fuckers. When three came up I debuffed two and just threw everything I had at one of them to get it out of there before they could pile on me. Really tough fight, not much room for any mistakes. Pretty cool. Had more trouble with Devourer though I think.

Ultra Mantis 08-11-2018 01:12 PM

Going to start using the bonus jobs for real now I think while I figure out this post game.

Sepholio 08-11-2018 11:09 PM

I was thinking it was going to be hard until you said you had more trouble with the devourer. I raped that one on the first try.

You should really be using those bonus jobs lol.

Destor 08-12-2018 10:10 AM

Alfyn, Olberic and H'aanit are my last 3 ch4s

Right ay 90hrs

Im way over leveled for their to be any challenge in anything. Did 0 grinding in the game just did all the optional content.

Ultra Mantis 08-12-2018 12:48 PM

Warmaster Ult is so fucking OP it's almost unfair haha. It's like a mini KOTR.

Ultra Mantis 08-12-2018 12:53 PM

Going to all these optional caves and stomping the bosses, even with base jobs, feels like I've missed out on some cool battles though. Spend a good 15 mins capturing the boss in the last Riverlands dungeon, pretty satisfying. Really enjoy the designs on all these bosses. The Octopath takes on Behemoth and Leviathan are awesome.

Maw of the Ice Dragon is the only place I haven't been.

Major
SPOILER: show
So I guess it's that and then time to enter the Gate

Ruien 08-12-2018 01:29 PM

Went to go trade the game in at Gamestop. Some kid and his mom were picking out games for the Switch. Seemed like they were about to buy the system. The mom pointed out Octopath and I decided to give them my copy for free.

I just did my first chapter 4, Cyrus. My A-Team is extremely overleveled. B-team underleveled af. Gonna have to do some grinding with my B-team characters to get them respectable.
