Found the hardest boss for me yet. Forest of Purgatory. Level like 54 place. Boss wrecked my face and caused me to switch teams/jobs 4 times.

Typically I avoid super cheesy tactics but I ended up using Runelord Tressa to beat the boss. I had to. Was getting butt fucked with any other strat or group I put out there.

It's not as useful as Hired Help tbf, when it has it's backup on the field Linde uses the single target spear attack half the time. Can't multi hit boost her either.

Ruien 08-03-2018 09:07 PM

Arg.

SPOILER: show

Went and did the last dungeon type of deal. No save points. Have to beat 8 previous then you go to the final boss. I got stomped on but now I have to beat the 8 scrub bosses again which takes like an hour or so.

No save point from the 8 bosses to the main boss. So annoying. Last boss rolled my ass hard too.

Destor 08-03-2018 11:25 PM

Well i wont be clicking that lol

Ruien 08-03-2018 11:32 PM

<3

Trying to figure out the best jobs for each person so I can just leave everyone with their job and equipment on. Instead of going through the process each time I switch people in and out.

Using
Olberic Cleric
Prim Sorceress
Cyrus Dancer
Hannit Scholar
Therion Warmaster
Tressa Runelord
Ophelia Starseer
Alf Thief

There's a sidequest for Undertow Cave once you finish a certain Ch4.

SPOILER: show
It's Cyrus.
SPOILER: show
But there is still no boss.

Ultra Mantis 08-04-2018 08:22 PM

I unintentionally started doing chapter 4s in OCTOPATH order: Ophilia, Cyrus, Tressa. Decided to continue that way and it's really cool how each Ch4 reveals another piece of the puzzle. Not sure if the PATH side will follow suite, but the first half in that order is incredible.

Also I noticed that the major secondary character in each story could possibly spell out TRAVELER. Not sure if that is a co-incidence with the half I've completed or if the other four actually fit the pattern. Maybe not. Dunno.

Ultra Mantis 08-04-2018 08:26 PM

Tressa Ch4 (also contains spoils on previous Ch4s)

SPOILER: show
God dammit Tressa, you win a trillion leaves and you put it in a trust fund!?!?! I could of bought loads of cool shit with that! This one is a lot more vague than the others, but the diary apparently has links to Obsidian, aka the crow men, since they are hanging around the secret tunnel as mobs. It's all connected!

Ultra Mantis 08-04-2018 08:32 PM

Olberic Ch4. Wow this one is so good. (also contains spoils on previous Ch4s)

SPOILER: show
Riverford is bleak as hell, I love it. Everything in this chapter is wonderful. Olberic is a badass. Erhardt with his flowing blonde hair and Yorkshire accent is a badass. Where the hell did Werner get that horse? Then it all leads back to that gate, which is in former Hornburg, which is somewhere? We will find that gate and seal it shut. Promise.

Ultra Mantis 08-04-2018 08:42 PM

Most intrigued about Alfyn's Ch4 of the ones I have left, because I have no fucking clue where that plotline is going. Prim and H'aanit should be great too, Prim's story is badass while H'annit's is really quirky and a little more of a loose thread. Still can't get over H'aanit's Ch2. That path action. Olberic / Cyrus come through with some great path action usage, but that one just stuck with me haha.

Therion is also there.

Ruien 08-04-2018 09:43 PM

Olberric is by far my favorite story. Chapter 4 story was beyond amazing.

SPOILER: show

Beat the end game boss at 80:02. Those 2 minutes were me putting the switch onto the tv since the battery was going low too. Feel empty inside now that it is over.....

SPOILER: show

Took 2 tried to get the last boss down. I realized I needed better gear and such before taking on the last boss since I got rolled hard the first time. I got kind of lucky too that I used tressa/runelord with haanit/scholar and cyrus. Made their attacked like 15k damage per hit. Didnt seem like my physical damage from Olberic did much.

Second group was prim/sorc and Therion/warmaster which was both super lucky. Ophilia and Alf were able to keep them up and restore BP on the second part.

Awesome last boss. Totally epic feel.

I really hated that the group never spoke together with all 8 at the end. They were all shown together and could have done the basic "we will stop you" and "not today evil lady (this is from tressa obviously).

Super awesome fucking game.

Sepholio 08-05-2018 09:42 PM

I just finished my last chapter 2. Keep getting sidetracked in the game and doing optional content. My characters are like mid-40's doing these chapter 2 stories haha.

Sepholio 08-05-2018 09:43 PM

Forget which of you didn't realize there was a run button until late, but I had an even dumber snafu than that....

I didn't realize you could use multiple boost levels on a single turn until I was like 35-40 with everyone lol. Imagine my surprise when I accidentally enabled a multiboost for the first time.

Destor 08-06-2018 12:51 AM

Bosses must have been a real chore lol

Destor 08-06-2018 12:52 AM

1 ch3 left. I wont do any ch4s until ive have all the sub jobs tho

Yeah there were for sure a couple that were annoying af lol

Destor 08-06-2018 12:11 PM

honest question: how much more are you enjoying combat now?

Sepholio 08-06-2018 03:52 PM

An absolute ton more. It's not like it made it that much easier as I'm getting into the parts where it seems as though the difficulty is ramping up a good bit. But discovering it definitely added another layer of strategy in when to use the boost and when to stockpile it.

Ultra Mantis 08-06-2018 07:19 PM

Just unlocked Runelord, that was a tight fight. Merchant H'aanit was clutch for Leghold Trap / Arrowstorm and Hired Help to keep defences up. Getting a lot of mileage from this new combo.

Also, want back and beat Devourer of Men. Still the hardest boss I've seen so far.

Destor 08-07-2018 12:38 AM

Just got my first of the 4 hidden jobs. Starseer. Fight took 3 tries each losing effort taking about 30 min. 2nd loss she was less than 5k Winning effort i really managedwell hp, bp, sp and breaks were all hyper efficient. Nearly kept her on stun lock the whole time.

Ive been de-jobbing and unequipping everyone not in my party so im free to rebuild my team on the fly. Makes a big diff.

Destor 08-07-2018 12:40 AM

This boss, like the devourer, forced me to use items. Something rpgs rarely do.

Devourer was wayyyyyy harder though.

Destor 08-07-2018 12:58 AM

The optional bosses are some of the best bosses ive ever played in a jrpg though. Really demand thought and strategy

Ruien 08-07-2018 09:42 AM

What level are you guys? Cant wait for you guys to go to the first of purgatory.

Destor 08-07-2018 11:58 AM

67 is my main. Rest of the party is mid 50s

Ultra Mantis 08-07-2018 03:12 PM

Ophilia 65
Alfyn 58
Primrose 56
H'aanit, Olberic 55
Tressa 48
Cyrus, Therion 45

road doggy dogg 08-07-2018 03:26 PM

Olberic is such a beast. I've subbed him as a Thief and stacked evasion gear. Even at level 42 or so I can pretty handily win any 10-star duel (albeit with my current damage level it takes a decent amount of time). His story so far has been my favourite as well (just finished chapter 3)

Destor 08-07-2018 03:28 PM

for challenges I like cleric with SP regen. You can just infinitely heal anything they dish is you have the patience.

Speaking of patience: best passive in the game.

Destor 08-07-2018 03:28 PM

...so far

road doggy dogg 08-07-2018 03:33 PM

Patience is amazing. I do like the SP Steal skill from the Thief class, saves having to use a passive slot for SP regen. Plus a lot of duel targets tend to be dagger weak so you get 2x break while regening SP or HP which is a nice bonus

Ruien 08-07-2018 03:33 PM

Do the forest of purgatory with those levels! Go go. Before you outlevel the hardest boss in the game.

SP share + SP steal is a strat i use when I need accessories and passives for specific fights. I'll dump the SP regen skills/items and have the thief cover SP for the party.

Ruien 08-07-2018 03:41 PM

Yes that one.

Destor 08-07-2018 03:45 PM

I miiiiight get the other 3 jobs first but i'll atleast let the boss beat me once for your sake. :)

Destor 08-07-2018 03:45 PM

lvl 58 content is higher than the shrines so its def intended for me to have those jobs first...

Ultra Mantis 08-07-2018 04:19 PM

Not sure if I should go after Starseer or Warmaster next, I have fought both once and got wrecked. Would imagine Sorcerer is a huge bitch. Leaning towards the Seer, and then I will go check out your forest.

Destor 08-07-2018 04:25 PM

Starseer isnt super great but it has a passive thats top shelf and I would reccomend getting it first strictly for it:

SPOILER: show
JP gain up

Ultra Mantis 08-07-2018 06:13 PM

Beat Starseer on my second attempt, swapped out Prim for Dancer Cyrus so I could run Scholar H'aanit. Much easier with two Scholars.

SPOILER: show
3/4 of her passives look pretty good actually, depending on what the boosted damage increase actually adds. 25% immunity seems way high.
