….I'm sorry but Darby Allin and Jimmy Havoc going up for #1 contender for the world title is some galaxy brain dumbness. And I like Jimmy a lot. But ffs that is laughable shit.
|
I couldn't agree more. Just doesn't come across as very intriguing.

Ok so Cody tweets an excuse for why wins and losses don't really matter like they said they would originally. Neat. Gotta love the arrogance of Cody though: apparently a loss to Cody is better than a win over someone else.
|
I mean jfc. After that shit show HIAC and one of the worst RAWs ever aired, AEW was basically handed a gift on a silver platter. Huge opening to take a shot at WWE while they are weak and maybe gain some serious inroads early on (and I mean against the main brand shows, not NXT)....and their answer is Darby Allin vs Jimmy Havoc......jfc
I'm almost convinced that the joke rumors about WWE actually being behind AEW are true. |
How is that an excuse? Quality of opponent SHOULD matter. Especially as they move along and everyone has a ton of matches under their belts.
If the day ever comes where they put someone on a Goldberg streak, you can let it build while he kills jobbers but it won't be until he beats bigger names that it takes the next step into "oh shit, this guy needs a title shot". Love the college football comparison. People raged when UCF didn't get into the playoffs after two straight undefeated seasons. Well look what happened once UCF started playing teams worth a shit. |
Besides, even if Havoc/Allin isn't your cup of tea (and personally I don't care about Havoc but think Allin is someone who can be marketable for them and therefore I'm on board with giving him a prominent match).....rest of the card looks real solid tonight.
Bucks/Private Party in particular jumps out for me. That can be a really good one. |
while i typically would side with Seph's responses here, But i'm not real down on that match being for the #1 Contender because I really don't know anyone in AEW other then like 6 people. So for fans like me, they have to start somewhere and make me care. I see two guys getting a #1 contender shot and I think well i guess they matter somewhat.
It's like when i first started watching WCW in the early 90's. I knew who Flair and Rude were from WWF. but had no clue who was considered good or who were jobbers until i began watching religiously. So I'll give them a pass for now since this is their 2nd prime time show |
I do find it odd that Hangman is teaming with Goldust though. Jericho and Sammy makes sense because they aligned last week. Hangman and Goldust has no interaction what so ever. so it's weird to see them just thrown together here

They addressed it near the end of this. I do appreciate that they use BTE to tie up some loose (cannon) ends even if not everybody watches it. |
oh cool, didn't even know they were using You Tube. :y:
|
Yeah, it's also where you can catch AEW Dark, which shows all the dark matches from Dynamite tapings. I really dig that idea tbh.
|
Love the idea. The Darby Allin v Cima match was stellar, and the 8 man tag was fun if not a little sloppy. It's a great way to get talent air time outside of the weekly show.
|
Lol 40 minutes into the game and still only in the first inning
Yeah this is getting bumped |
Dynamite will air on BOTH TNT and TruTV tonight under the expectation that they will be bumped off of TNT at 8:30. So presumably if/when they cut out the announcers will remind everyone to switch over.
|
I do wish it was Cody/Dustin vs Sami and Jericho, but I am wiling to give Hangman a chance.

It’s not a system without faults but at least they’re still trying to explain some of their decisions instead of “lol here’s Jinder Mahal in a #1 contenders match” |
When will the Lucha Bros be on my tv? This is outrageous.

Also it's kinda bullshit if they slap this game over on TNT at 8pm. St. Louis is up 13 to 1, it's the bottom of the 7th... eh. Whatever. |
I think people expecting some concrete calculus like an ELO or something to determine wins and the value of those wins is expecting something unrealistic in a scripted sport.
I'm fine with Darby vs Havoc for a title shot because it's not like it's a marquee show or anything. A world title match IS a big deal, but it's not like this is the main event of Wrestlemania or anything. And while there are arguably people with better records and strength of schedule (Pac, primarily), Cody's explanation is fine, especially since they don't have a long history of matches to go off of as of yet. It's not like some WWE situations where a dude loses ten out of fifteen matches and then beats the champ with a roll-up in a non-title match and is suddenly in the title picture. |
I’m absolutely fine with Darby Allin being the plucky youngster who doesn’t know when to quit going against the grizzled veteran Jericho who wants to beat some respect into the kid.
It’s one of wrestling’s best tropes. |
If Havoc wins though, were gonna have to have a talk.

Looks like a big crowd from people on Twitter posting pics

Can't wait for every match to end via ref stoppage

Looks like Cardinals vs Braves is in the bottom of the 8th. Looking positive that AEW isn't going to get bumped.
