Umbrella Academy
This appeared on Netflix today so instead of taking my lumps from Ascension, Stranger Things and Hill House and quitting Netflix entirely, I jumped headfirst into this.
Two episodes in I'm laughing a lot in both a straightforward and "what the fuck" way. I have no idea what the source material for this is but it must be nuts. I know it's a comic but beyond that nothing. Great cast, solid mystery at the centre and a bounty of WTF laughs. It has a creeping darkness too. Bad things are imminent. Klaus and Vanya are fantastic, I think Number 5 is class though. Two episodes in and it's a treat so far. |
It was written by the lead singer of My Chemical Romance.

I don't know anything about that band. The guy from Kula Shaker makes films now too. Simon Pegg is in 'em.

Ellen Page wears a fuckload of denim in it |
SPOILER: show |
#3 is hot.
Aside from that, finished episode 1. Like what I'm watching. I'll keep chugging along. |

Apparently you meant the graphic novel. The show is run by the Lethal Weapon Steve Blackman. |
Do not look at the wiki page for the show or the graphic novel, both contain big spoilers in the team member/cast info.
I just wanted to know a name and it ruined a surprise for me. |
This is absolutely hilarious.
|
SPOILER: show At the very least the first part of that statement will be true. There has been a bit of foreshadowing but it may be a red herring. If it is that's a great bluff. |
Episode 9 spoiler
SPOILER: show |
Finished.
That is a fantastic show. It is rich with laughs of all kinds and yet maintains a very dark streak through it's entire run which gets much stronger towards the end. It is jammed with outstanding characters, Klaus, The Boy, Vanya, Hazel and Cha-Cha... I was extremely taken with the chemistry between actors in this show. It was like The Borg, they all worked phenomenally together and it was written very slick. I loved it. |
I'll have to check it out here in a bit
|
Whoa...not what I was expecting.
|
It is up front with the weirdness
|
Halfway through 3 and i am hooked
|
Two episodes in. It def gives me Heroes (season 1, only) vibes.
|
I resisted the urge to say that exact thing because I didn't want to jinx it. You're right though, it's like a funnier Heroes season 1.
|
I dont know if i'll watch this. I cant stand Ellen Page. There might not be a single actress I hate more then Ellen Page.

Watched the first episode and enjoyed it..... only planned on watching the one tonight, but am about to play the second episode anyways....
|
I like how there are only three or four fairly well known actors in it and yet everybody feels so familiar and right for the role. It really lets the character speak for itself when you aren't preoccupied with the actor's profile. Genuinely perfect casting.
|
Would like to know which character/s strike/s you as enjoyable. I think you'll be a fan of The Boy, he has a complicated relationship with the opposite sex.
|
I like Five so far.... and Klaus.... talking monkey butlers are alwyas cool as well..... Ellen Page seems too "emo" right now.....
Everyone is enjoyable so far though.... No one named The Boy yet.... |
Five = The Boy
|
Two episodes in. Love Diego fucking people up.
|
Diego is great, he's the one that straight away you want to follow.
SPOILER: show |
I'm 4 episodes in. I dont know what the point is, but i'm somewhat interested. I swear every single scene with Ellen Page is bringing this show down. It's the worst casting ever. She is boring, her scenes are boring. OMG it's fucking terrible so far.
|
You should probably stop now then because she's in it for the duration and takes up a generous amount of screen time.

There was a scene where they all were dancing and when Ellen Paige was dancing, i lost life.
|
Ellen Paige = Lifeless. I cant watch this show anymore. She is fucking terrible.
|
Pound for pound Ellen Paige is the worst actress/actor ever.
|
She's unparalleled as an actress, especially with the roles she takes. I think she's one of the most likeable people I have ever seen.
I'll tell you who I hate - Sally Hawkins. Fuck off Hawkins. |
Just finished. Loved it. Thought Ellen Page was brilliant, and RP needs reevaluate his life choices. Diego was an easy draw, but Klaus was the guy I found myself most interested in.
Are we getting a second season? I'd love one but hard to imagine where they go after this. |
Klaus' story takes such major turn at one point that the concept itself had me wide eyed in admiration. I think the guy Sheehan that played him did something special with an incredibly interesting character. Perhaps that role could have been so one dimensionally funny in the wrong hands as to detract from the depth of what the poor bastard goes through but I really marked out for Klaus.
