lol @ Bischoff counting forced attendance as being a drawn crowd
|
He did it tongue in cheek though.
|
i thought that was a good ep. it was funny all the hot heads went the stieners scot norton too cold scorpen and chris benoit. an chris was the voice of reason.
|
Sonny Ono dressed like a metrosexual Yakuza boss. Amazing.
|
This episode was incredibly fascinating to me, but that's probably because I've never read anything about this show beyond the purported attendance numbers. So it's all fresh to me.

Young boy Nagata sighting.

Got around to watching the Collision in Korea episode and it was all right. Would put it more in the mid to low tier for episodes in series history.
Laughed at how everyone was saying how bad of a time they had in North Korea and Muhammad Ali just abruptly decides to jog up a flight of stairs and shadow box while visiting a sacred site and nothing bad happened to him. 2 Cold Scorpio and Hawk having legit brawls in North Korea was the best part about the episode, especially Scorpio's chopstick story. |
Only regret about the episode is they really should have gotten Ric Flair for it.
It would have been great hearing his tales about his time in North Korea considering he's a very eccentric wrestler and personality while North Korea looks down on that type of stuff and is very rigid for daily life. |
I liked how Chris Benoit was all "hey you shouldn't murder people".
Well played Crippler, well played |

They nailed it with Warrior. I loved it. Can't wait for the extended version and the podcast review with Conrad. They told the truth (so far as I've heard it before) and yes buried him (he buried himself) and then at the end the sentiment really got to me. When Warrior died it was shocking and prophetic in a way. As big of a dick as he was, I still really cared for him especially when he seemed to change before he died. I ended up getting into weight lifting from his last promo and gained like 30lbs of muscle. I would pump his music at the gym and channel that Warrior spirit.
|
Can't wait to watch it
|
so jake the snake was in line to get the belt, still confused if vince had plans for jake to get the belt, he could have got it after warrior was fired.
|
I haven't seen it yet but I find that hard to believe.
Also, I've read reports that the A&E Warrior doc was harsher than the DSOTR one. Gonna watch it tomorrow. |
The A&E doc wasn't harsh it was definitely the opposite of The Self Destruction DVD. Still worth watching though. I enjoyed both. Darkside is much more what I understand is the truth of people's experiences in working with Warrior.
Talking about Jake, clearly that's the truth he knows but it doesn't make a lot of sense. We're talking 91' right? Warrior holds up SummerSlam, Hogan is the champ, it doesn't make sense that the Jake/Warrior program would be for the title. I think that Jake is probably confused and was high. |
yeah that's what i was thinking, more then warrior kept jake from the title. vince might have used as an excuse.
|
He’s not confused, he’s a compulsive liar.
|

Warrior was champ in 1990, and Jake was still a face in 1990. He wrestled Bad News Allen at Summerslam 1990. Jake turned heel right before Summerslam by aligning with Undertaker, so they were slated to work together, but it wasn't going to be for the title. Jake probably just acting like he was gonna be champ to make himself seem more important. A&E doc was my much better, and documented the controversies much better in my opinion. Also, Jim Ross has the be the most bitter asshole in all of wrestling. He also is full of shit, seeing as how JR and Warrior were only in the WWE for like 4 months. |
Currently watching the Warrior episode and the first half has been okay.
The thing that popped out the most so far is Warrior sort of gaining creative control in WWF after he beat Hogan for the belt assuming that part of the tale by Jake Roberts is true. I knew Hogan had it back in the day but didn't know anyone else had it as well in WWF prior to HBK and the Kliq's rise. |
Would love tosee an episode on the kliq and how much damage they did to the booking of promotions they worked for. Not to mention the soma comas.
|
Grizzly Smith next week. That's gonna be a rough watch.
|
Yeah, Jake didn't end up the way he did for no reason.
|
Would be great if Bill Watts was on the Grizz episode
|
Money talks
|
Just watched the Warrior episode.
One of the finest episodes they have ever done. I was moved. I really didn't think they could get much more out of the topic between the documentaries and podcasts but that put everything together very nicely. Warrior's ex wife had a lot of great stuff to say, also still pretty hot. |
blink182wtf.gif
|
Collision in Korea was interesting but the Warrior episode is something else.
|
Queering in Korea next week, can't wait!
|
Finished the Ultimate Warrior DSOTR
It was ok. |
Considering watching the A&E doc. Have heard nice things about it too.
|
I would say the Warrior episode has been the worst this season.
|
Don't get your Nickers Gage in a twist mate, just because WARRIOR was a REAL wrestler.
Nick Gage couldn't even break Bobby Heenan's neck if he dug his vertebrae up and took a sledgehammer to them. |
And his missus looked like a hispanic Steve Urkel
|
It was the same old story that's been told a billion times
Nick Fucking Gage. MDK. |
When was the last time you saw anyone win with a leaping shoulder tackle though?
Nick Gage couldn't beat his wife with that, but WARRIOR did it for shots and giggles. |
When was the last time Warrior kicked out of being thrown through a pile of light tubes.
|
How about a closet full of unsold comic books?
|
What little respect I had left for Jake Roberts flew out the window with him deciding not to beat the shit out of Warrior.
|
I wonder if you could get a full interesting hour out of The Renegade. It's a sad sorry
|
wonder if they will do the jake roberts one next season
|
I enjoyed the Foley A&E doc a lot. They really captured his giving spirit and the overview of his early days was apt and fun to revisit. He should probably get a podcast with Conrad.

That would require real journalism |

Jake could hit Warrior with a truck and somehow only get hurt himself. Don’t ever put your faith in Jake Roberts... |
In The Shadow of Grizzly Smith was really good. As good as a story like that can be. It's fucked up. Jake is such a tortured soul, yet we are so lucky to have had him in wrestling and now still alive and sober to tell his stories. Nobody like Jake. Sam Houston came off like a really good guy and Rockin Robin was a great storyteller too. The older brother Richard (I think) also carried a lot of pain with him from this story. How could they not, it's their lives, so fucked up. Crazy that Grizzly had such a high position in WCW with all this circling in his background. Glad they used that footage of Grizzly and Jake from Beyond The Mat, that always stuck with me.
This season of Darkside has probably been my favorite so far. Next week, Tom Billington. Man I hope they get renewed for a season 4. I don't know what stories they can tell at this point but I'm sure they are out there. Chris Adams, Chyna, Luger/Liz, Eddie Guerrero, WWE/Saudi Arabia, WWF Ring boy scandal, Scott Hall, Hogan... I mean there are a ton more stories out there. They may not be as focused as Grizzly, Korea, or have ended like Pillman, but there are plenty more to tell. |
And I think Grizzly had something to do with his daughters disappearance based on what was said in that episode.
|
that could have been a 2 part ep. they could do just jake the snake pt 2 next season.
|
Yeah they should give Jake his own episode.
|
Hero's of Wrestling PPV would probably be suitable as well. Also I think the death of WCW and ECW could be suitable.
|
The whole Roberts/Smith family should just be completely erased from wrestling history.
Jake especially. Don’t think for a second that he wasn’t every bit the sick fuck his old man was. They just need to lift up more of the rug. |
Quote:
lol, if they even thought about touching them the show would be over. There’s nothing dark about any of those things, they would have to go on a sister show called “The Predictable Side Of The Ring”. |
Watched the Grizzly episode there.
Lots of allegations from the family. None from anybody else. The wrestling community closed ranks on this one, noticeable. The credibility of the Smith family has never been more questionable. |
Free Grizzly Smith

I think they didn’t care and a lot more sordid shit happened than is being admitted to.
I think the Smiths are escaping a lot of blame for being scum themselves by showing their dad up as a scumbag now. The Snake eats itself. Ouroboros. |
Interesting how the one sibling, Richard Smith, that didn't get into wrestling managed to not fuck things up for himself. Crazy, right?
|
Dynamite Kid should be really cool next week. They really could have done a combined British Bulldogs episode and made it two hours. There's lots of stuff to cover on Davey Boy as well. Remember how fucking awful he looked at the end of his WCW run, even before his spinal infection. The last high blood pressure skin color and ridiculously bloated. Here's his last WCW match.
|
Compare that to this picture from under a year prior. Just look at his face

I've been watching all those 1998 WCW Saturday Night matches with Scott Hudson and Tenay on commentary. Tenay repeats the same points about the same wrestlers every match..
Did you know that you shouldn't judge Silver King by his physique because he can fly with the best of them. Well Mike will remind you every single match. I'm pretty indifferent towards Tenay. |

Jimmy Page kidnapped a 14 year old and kept her for two years before giving her back to her parents.
She says it was great. |
My buddy is in the military and one of the things they had him do was be present at wrestling shows at the VFW/Armories. Jake Roberts was at one of those shows around 2005 and his pay was $100 cash, a hotel room, and $500 in cocaine. So like 80% of his booking fee was coke. Only in pro wrestling lol

Alex Wright was awesome. That stupid Berlin gimmick really buried him. He should have gone to NJPW after WCW. WWE would have made him a fuck boy jobber.
|
I remember he had his first PPV match at Fall Brawl against Duggan where Duggan no sold all his offense. He next faced Brad Arnstrong who hadn't been relevant in years and friggen lost lol!
|
Alex Wright is only 2 years older than AJ Styles
|
Man I'm sad that we have a Darkside break for the summer. I can't wait for the next half of Season 3. That and confirmation of a season 4.
|
this was kind of a dud to brake on wish the smith ep was this week and kid was last week.
|
I liked Dynamite, I wish they had an extra hour. I love Foley talking wrestling. Foley is God.
|
I totally forgot this was on last night. How was it compared to this years episodes.
|
I think it was a good look at The Darkside of Dynamite. Could've been longer yes, but I enjoyed it a lot. Probably my favorite telling of the Jacques story. The abuse stuff was covered well with a lot of raw emotion. I would have enjoyed more about the glory days but it's not the Happy Side of the Ring.
Compared to this seasons eps it's among the best I'd say. I maintain that Collision in Korea was probably the least compelling for me. I think I enjoyed this more than Pillman's epsiode. I really liked Spivey, Foley and Lance Storm. Foley is just the best storyteller. |
For what ever reason I was a big fan of Bulldog in his 2000 run for the WWF
|
Much more enjoyable than that WCW he and Neidhart had in 98
|
Rock Bottom in the dog poop!
|
Dynamite episode was okay I suppose. There is literally nothing new in it and his ex wife and daughters were a fucking drag, also I was wrong about Mick Foley’s clothesline. They showed it at 12 minutes, not 5.
Still, the whole show consisted of about three stories, the clothesline, the Rougeaus and the shotgun wife incident. The only really great thing about it was seeing Jacques Rougeau bullshit his way through it like he was having the best time since breakfast. Man does he seem like a fun guy with a real zest for life. |
Lol Jacques is great. Such a carny.
|
I was unaware of most of the stories shot Dynamite going into to this episode so I found it all very interesting and extremely saddening.
|
So you only knew the Rougeau story?
I mean they really didn’t go into detail on anything besides the three main things I mentioned and those are all in Foley and Bret’s first books. I’m pretty sure Dynamite mentions it in his own book. His book is pretty short and very angry but not a patch on Bob Holly or Ole Anderson’s books which were just loose wrestling stories held together with decades old rage. |
Quote:
It is a few weeks from being 14 years ago, so I might just be remembering the timeline incorrectly. |
I think Meltzer had reported on drama with Dynamite before the Benoit murders.
|
ole anderson would be a good darkside of the ring
|
Watching the Grizzly Smith one. I love that Sam Houston says that Robin was one of the greatest women's Champs of all time and they kinda play up her greatness
She was fucking awful. AWFUL. One of the worst I've ever seen. |
Haha I didn’t bother to actually check how good she was off at all. But I trust you, Gerty.
|
She was so bad. Poor Sherri Martel had to wrestle her night after night. The worst Women's champ of the Era and that includes Moolah
Her and Judy Martin wrestled at the 89 Royal Rumble and it was fucking awful. And Judy Martin is my favourite Women's wrestler |
Quote:
There should be a sugar hold episode. Al Snow describes the Anderson training regime for greenhorns and its a nightmare. I think everybody should read Ole’s book. He’s the most unrepentantly miserable cunt in wrestling and his book lives up to it. |
I really gotta order that one. There's so many great wrestling books that I still want to read. I still haven't read Bret's. I think that might be my next purchase
Gonna watch the Dynamite Kid one tonight. |
Ole’s book is a top top wrestling book.
I forget which territory he ruined, it may have been Georgia, but he tells it like it is. He also talks about making a lot of money through lumber. I wish I still had that book. Pretty sure he has a whole chapter on sugaring rookies. |
