You don't think you assume much about my tastes?

RoXer 12-12-2010 04:37 PM

How's the new season of Power Rangers?

Kalyx triaD 12-12-2010 04:37 PM

Not up yet.

LoDownM 12-12-2010 04:59 PM

How have you not finished Reach on Legendary Kalyx? I don't even like the Halo series much and have beat it solo on legendary.

Aforementioned diversions. And I sleep a lot more now, because I need to.

Gonzo 12-12-2010 05:11 PM

I have absolutely no reservation about calling the Mass Effect series one of the best stories every told in video game history. There is absolutely nothing that comes to my mind that can hold a candle to the way the story is told in Mass Effect. I can't recall any other game where the choices you made in the first iteration, would have an effect on the third. The game has RPG elements, shooter elements, and is perhaps one of the most fun, immersing experiences I've ever had with any form of entertainment, period.

I will say this, Kalyx, if you can't find the time to play Mass Effect 1 & 2, in that order, you're missing out on gaming history. And to be frank, you can probably bang out each game in a week or so.

Kalyx triaD 12-12-2010 05:17 PM

Would anybody play Bayonetta because I said it is the greatest action game ever crafted? Cause you should. Just putting it out because I put a lot of time into it and even now I'm thinking of new combos.

Fignuts 12-12-2010 05:22 PM

I DID

So do what I say and play ME from the start.

Kalyx triaD 12-12-2010 05:28 PM

Heard you the first time, Figs.

Fignuts 12-12-2010 05:30 PM

Well, as long as you keep going on about how you told people to play bayonetta, I'll keep telling you I did.

Kalyx triaD 12-12-2010 05:32 PM

Damn you. To hell.

alvarado52 12-12-2010 06:01 PM

In all honesty, Bayonetta is a game not eveyone would be able to enjoy. A killer story though, anyone can appreciate.

You keep bringing this up, but the argument is totally different.

You love the engine of Bayonetta. Not eveyone is gonna give a rats ass about an engine in a game enough to see through it.

A story though? That shit will grip you and drag your ass to the very end.

Mass Effect as a GAME is fucking awesome. As a story? Epic.

Now play Mass Effect 1 for fucks sake.

Fignuts 12-12-2010 06:21 PM

Bayonetta gripped you?

Really?

I mean I will freely admit that from a gameplay standpoint, it is the very best of it's kind. But the story seems pretty crappy to me. Standard Japan anime type stuff, really.

Kalyx triaD 12-12-2010 08:03 PM

If You guys think I play Bayo for the story you're mistaken.

Far as I'm concerned, I'm a bigger proponent for gameplay than story.

From the "Best Game Evar" thread:

Quote:

Games I put days worth of life into:

Rock Band 1/2
Capcom vs SNK 2
Halo 2/3/Reach
GoldenEye
Soulcalibur 1/2/3/4
WWE No Mercy
WWE Day of Reckoning 2
Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow/Chaos Theory (Multiplayer)
Legend of Zelda OoT
Mario Party
X-Men Legends 1/2/Ultimate Alliance
Battlefield Bad Company 2
Star Wars Battlefront 1/2
Star Wars KoTOR 1/2
WWE Smackdown! HCTP/2009
Tony Hawk 3/THUG
Devil May Cry 3
Bayonetta
Rescue (NES)
TMNT Turtles in Time
Super Contra
Guitar Hero 2/80s/3/WT
Banjo Kazooie

And more I guess.
How many of those have gripping narratives? Now how many of those have great multiplayer? My favorite genres often make no attempts at a significant story.

Johnny McNasty 12-12-2010 08:17 PM

The fact that you have KOTOR on your list of favorite games, should make the decision to get Mass Effect a no brainer

Kalyx triaD 12-12-2010 08:20 PM

Bioware's work wasn't the issue. Love those guys.

RoXer 12-12-2010 08:21 PM

How many of those games are current?

Kalyx triaD 12-12-2010 08:23 PM

A few. Relevance?

RoXer 12-12-2010 08:28 PM

I guess they all were at the time you played them. Nvm.

Gotcha. I use to think KoTOR was the most immersive game I ever had played. That was until I played the Mass Effect series.

Kalyx triaD 12-12-2010 08:33 PM

It was funny seeing the guys praise the streamlined options in ME2, as I imagine ME1 was closer to KoTOR in some respects. But I was the type of guy who spent an hour messing with items and buffs and stuff to get my cast just right for battles.

Gonzo 12-12-2010 08:41 PM

I played both KoToR games and never felt that the item management was all that daunting. In ME1 I felt that it was tedious. ME2 has a nice system.

Johnny McNasty 12-12-2010 08:43 PM

Yeah I would say ME1 was similar to KoTOR in the way you used your powers/items, but it just wasn't as polished as KoTOR's system. I was happy with how they streamlined the whole thing in ME2, as it made the action play out more fluidly, whilst still allowing you to have your options.

alvarado52 12-12-2010 09:57 PM

You can't just pick up the game mid trilogy. You will lack any connection emotionally to old faces and stable characters.

Kalyx triaD 12-13-2010 01:56 AM

That's a far statement.

RoXer 12-13-2010 01:58 AM

Because you lack the abilty to connect emotionally, period. [/Kane Knight]

Kalyx triaD 12-13-2010 02:39 AM

Probably that. I have few close friends. Mostly confidants.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-13-2010 11:34 AM

I hate this thread just because I play PacMan, KoF '99, killed Baynetta twice anemometer SF1 before 2 (and all the choices I made carried over from 1 until 2, totally making that point relevant), not on CT leaderboards because I already have it on DC and PSP, yet I STILL know you should play the ME games in order because it is fucking epic.

It is the only game I could watch if it came out in movie form unchanged, bar Shenmue.

Kalyx triaD 12-23-2010 03:08 PM

Change my mind, will not be playing the Mass Effect series.

D Mac 12-23-2010 03:25 PM

Then you lose.

The Destroyer 12-23-2010 03:59 PM

What a waste of effort on our part. Pathetic.

illmatic 12-23-2010 04:28 PM

EPIC FAIL of a thread.....

Shwag!!!

BTW if you cannot convince a person to play ME1, then it the person probaly doesn't derserve to enjoy the game! There should be no convincing when it comes to ME. If you are any kind of gamer, it should be black and white. You play ME because it is one of the top 3 series of the last 10 years of gaming.

Kalyx triaD 12-23-2010 04:36 PM

...Okay.

Fignuts 12-23-2010 05:41 PM

Any particular reason why?

Kalyx triaD 12-23-2010 05:48 PM

Time could be better spent with games I currently enjoy and games I will enjoy in the future. Nothing against the series or anything.

Fignuts 12-23-2010 05:59 PM

Mass Effect isn't a game you would enjoy in the future?

How sad.

Kalyx triaD 12-23-2010 06:04 PM

I was very careful in my wording as to not judge the game, but if that's how you read it I can't stop you.

D Mac 12-23-2010 06:26 PM

Someone probably already said this but you can start with 2 and it would be fine.

D Mac 12-23-2010 06:30 PM

I bet once you get into it you'll wanna go back and get 1. Guarendamntee it.
