This thread infuriates me. If Kalyx was one of my real life friends and this thread was identical to a discussion we were having with him in real life about Mass Effect, I would end it by punching him in the face, thereby ending both the argument and our friendship in one swift blow right to the eye and/or nose.

Laughing at your own posts is lame man.

If you've got a decent PC, always the PC version.

Mass Effect 2 on max looked better than the new engined PS3 version and ME3 is sure to be stunning.

It's not like there's an online component so you have to pick what friends are playing what version.

Extreme Angle 04-09-2011 10:34 AM

Just got Mass Effect 2 from buying DA2 :)

Funky Fly 04-09-2011 02:21 PM

Just reread this whole thread. Gonna be joining Fig, Req and Baird on the whole "start from 1" dealio. You really can't afford to miss out on the First series. You make so many decisions in that game that carry over, nevermind just the main storyline big ending decision (which has galactic level ramifications in 2). Your decisions determine if people are alive or dead.

There are so many well written little moments in ME. Complements the overall good ass story so beautifully. The best part is that despite all these great (and actually well executed) concepts, the gameplay is fucking fantastic. It stands up well with shooters coming out now.

BigDaddyCool 04-11-2011 11:32 AM

omg...Kalyx is so ridiculous in this thread.

BigDaddyCool 04-11-2011 11:33 AM

I still need to get ME 2. I don't know why I haven't. I must be a gay.

Next Big Thing 04-11-2011 11:41 AM

Agreed. I beat ME1 and have just started ME2. Love the carryover of the story.

addy2hotty 04-11-2011 02:15 PM

Love this series, even more than the Half Life series.

Bought both games for the girlfriend and she flatly won't play them. Says that she doesn't like the way i described Ashley Williams as 'quite hot'.

I think it's a poor excuse while she plays Just Cause for the 80th time.

Bioware has recruited DICE to help work on Mass Effect 3 and as usual DICE is going to be involved in the shooting aspect of the game. They are also being used for help in environmental details and audio work as well.

Quote:

To be more precise, DICE will be helping out BioWare in regards to Mass Effect 3’s guns. The sound it makes, the environments it’s fired in to, details of bullets in space, and taking into account the distance a bullet can travel are a few of the things DICE is helping with.
It might not mean much but it could be a sign of the 3rd game being even more shooter oriented than Mass Effect 2.

The Destroyer 04-23-2011 05:52 AM

First screens are out. They don't reveal much besides it looks nice as always and you'll be shooting it out with Cerberus at some point.

Emperor Smeat 05-04-2011 07:02 PM

EA and Bioware announce the game is now delayed from a late 2011 release date to now an early 2012 release or between January and March 2012.

Bioware is saying the delay is so that the team can have more time to finish and polish the game but most likely EA doesn't want it to be competing against Battlefield 3.

Bioware did release some new screens as a sort of an "apology" for the delay.

Update: Another reason for the delay could be due to EA wanting the game to be on a "handheld/mobile" device based on some information released by EA in their yearly financial report.

The Destroyer 05-05-2011 05:50 AM

Dammit. 2011 just got worse.

Next Big Thing 05-05-2011 01:10 PM

I'm a casual gamer so I figure L.A. Noire, Homefront, and Battlefields 1 & 2 should be enough to hold me over until the new Assassin's Creed is supposed to come out in November (finger's crossed). Then... hopefully that game will keep me preoccupied until Mass Effect 3.

Extreme Angle 05-06-2011 06:28 AM

Nearing the end of my 3rd play through on Mass Effect 1...
Insanity next

BigDaddyCool 05-06-2011 08:24 AM

That is fine. I just got mass effect 2 last night, new for $20. Stayed up to later playing it.

Mass Effect 3 will have the ability to have same-sex relationships for both the make and female version of Shepard.

Quote:

Bioware's Casey Hudson revealed on his Twitter page that Commander Shepard will be able to engage in same sex relationships in Mass Effect 3, if that is the direction that players want to take with his/her love life.

Hudson said he was happy to confirm this bit of info with the following Tweet:

"Mass Effect 3 supports wider options for love interests [including] same-sex for [male and female] characters, reactive to how you interact [with] them in-game."
People are already complaining this would ruin the canon of the story or their character's own story somehow. Of course the complaints are about the male Shepard having the ability to be gay and forgetting it was usually possible in the other games with the female Shepard.

Not sure if Mass Effect 1 had it available for both genders but I know Mass Effect 2 didn't allow it to be possible with the male version of Shepard.

Funky Fly 05-16-2011 07:51 PM

It's always been hetero or lezzy. It doesn't really matter though. If you don't want him to be gay, just don't do the gay stuff. That's the beauty of these Bioware games.

You get the option to do gay stuff in Dragon Age too, but you don't have to.

Fignuts 05-16-2011 09:24 PM

WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?

Emperor Smeat 06-16-2011 07:06 PM

The rumored possibility of some sort of multiplayer for the game appears to be a reality with a few leaks and sources saying the game is set to have a 4 player co-op for a Horde type of game mode.

Another source mentioned that currently Bioware is currently working on an actual multiplayer part for the game but are leaning on making it either as a DLC type or stand-alone title instead of packaged with the rest of the game.

Currently Bioware has DICE helping them out on the shooting and physics aspect of the game but it would not be a surprise if DICE convinced Bioware to add online multiplayer or are helping them out with the potential multiplayer aspect of the game.

LoDownM 06-16-2011 07:18 PM

I don't know how I feel about this, while I love horde game modes, Mass Effect doesn't need multiplayer.

BigDaddyCool 06-16-2011 08:30 PM

Gay, that is gay.

Emperor Smeat 06-17-2011 07:41 PM

According to the executive producer involved with the game's development, the PS3 will be getting a gimped version of the game in terms of content in comparison to the Xbox 360 and PC versions.

The Xbox 360 and PC versions were hinted to be having a special mode or feature involving game saves that stretched back to the first game in the series as a reward to the fans of the series. The PS3 will not be getting this treat due to never having ME 1 and the comic was only meant as a filler for the story and quick generator of stats for Mass Effect 2 on the PS3.

Also revealed is while the Xbox 360 version is getting Kinect controls for voice commands, no Move or headset voice controls will be done to the PS3 version.

Good. M.E. started on the 360.

The complaints in DA2 were largely that the options were poorly worded and gave the wrong ideas or something. I guess the problem was "I could accidentally flirt with a guy without meaning to!"

...Which is probably their biggest fear in real life, too.

Anyway, the interviews I've seen in mags of late seem to shoot down MP, but since they're basically just making the game a shooter, it seems dumb to complain about adding shooter modes.

...We've already got a more linear game with less colour and exploration, why not just make it brown and throw in horde?

...Aaaaaand cue the whining that it's not a shooter in a retarded case of fanboy stockholm syndrome!

Some new details from Gamescom with new mini-games, Cerberus Network will be a villian regardless of their status in a player's save file, and no chance of an SDK being released for modding or making games from the engine on PC.

Quote:

The Cerberus Network will only be a villian in the game and not a faction that you will be able to side with, regardless of how you played through Mass Effect 2. Also, the decisions the player makes in the early stretch of the game will have a major impact on the tone of the remainder of the campaign. The definition of "tone" is somewhat vague at this point. For example, if the player made a unpopular decision, would all the NPC's have a negative attitude towards Shepard for the majority of the game? This will most likely become clearer closer to the release date.

There will be several mini-games in ME3, however, the planet mining game from ME2 will most likely not be returning (you can all breath a sign of relief now). We don't know what the mini-games themselves are, but we can probably assume, like the tone subject, will be addressed closer to the release.

One additional rumor that was addressed was the possibility of a Mass Effect SDK. The rumour had been floating for a while and now, it has been confirmed that after the release of ME3, there will be NO SDK for the franchise.

Basically a kit so people can make mods for the PC game.

Funky Fly 08-24-2011 02:41 PM

Stands for Software Development Kit. Welcome to the abbreviated world of programming. Sorry, I mean: welcome 2 abbrev wrld of prog.

Cerberus Network as a villian? Oooookay.

Thank god they're getting rid of the mining system.

Just bought Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 3 will conclude Commander Shepard's story.

Bioware's CEO Dr. Ray Mazuka told PC Gamer, "Mass Effect 3 is simultaneously a couple of different things: a thrilling and epic conclusion to the trilogy as we promised our fans we'd provide for Commander Shepard, but it's also a brand new beginning – it's an entry point for new fans and it's also a brand new beginning."

Similarly, producer Michael Gamble said, "After this, Commander Shepard's story is complete."

When pressed, "Even if there are more games in the Mass Effect universe, he/she definitely won't be in them?" He laconically replied, "Correct."

So is Sheppard gonna be dying?

G 09-01-2011 10:26 AM

don't be silly, he's going to ride of in the sunset

Next Big Thing 09-01-2011 10:36 AM

It will probably depend on the choices you make during the game.

That's not meant to be as obnoxious or pretentious as it reads. I just really hope there isn't a canned ending for him.

G 09-01-2011 10:45 AM

Pretty sure the parents who care enough can monitor what kind of stuff their kids play and/or limit games to E-T if they don't want them playing inappropriate ("M" rated) content if they are under 17.

Granted, unfortunately most parents probably aren't responsible enough or knowledgable enough about how to enable/disable such settings (soooo easy...) and/or monitor what their kids play anyway, so it's probably a moot point. But I figured I might as well just throw that out there anyway.
