ClockShot 08-29-2016 07:58 PM

I remember watching the movie in Sci-Fi class in high school and thought it was a cool flick.

Cancelled my HBO when Thrones ended. Might grab this when it comes to DVD if the reviews are good.

Sixx 09-01-2016 07:21 PM

i like the fact that more bigass stars decide to star in tv shows. cool fact, definetely gonna check this out, huge hopkins mark.

Funky Fly is back 09-01-2016 09:17 PM

Triple A 10-03-2016 03:09 AM

Really freaking sweet...

Really glad that it's "actually good"

Mad good

Casting of all the actors is also amazing... lots of really weird looking ppl... love it

Triple A 10-03-2016 03:36 AM

slik 10-03-2016 04:41 AM

RP 10-03-2016 05:48 AM

Seems interesting. Wish i knew what the fuck was going on.

Destor 10-03-2016 08:59 AM

Already hooked. Reminds me of Dollhouse.

Emperor Smeat 10-03-2016 11:03 PM

First episode was really good overall.

Still think its a bit crazy HBO spent around $100 million for the first season. Think the last time they spent that much money was with Rome and it ended a lot sooner than HBO wanted due to costs.

Frank Drebin 10-03-2016 11:51 PM

Westworld was cool. Just watched it. Knew it would be good. Gonna give it a few episodes before I give it any sort of seal of aporoval. Let's see how they go about things. Could just turn into a rehash of usual tropes like "is AI human?" Or "Do they have real feelings?" But I think this is going somewhere else. The Ed Harris character is probably gonna make a face turn later on.

Wondering how they clean up and reset every day or week or month or however long a session goes on for. I want to know more about the logistics of getting this operation to run and the history of it and where it fits into the world it exists in.

Triple A 10-04-2016 12:32 AM

I read some theory (I think on Reddit) that the "unimportant character" robots reset every night and just repeat their script (like Delores was seemingly doing each day) until a human interacts with them, then I guess they react or whatever... but that raises more questions/issues so idk

Also wondering how they stop humans from accidentally murdering other humans via stabbing them or bludgeoning them to death or something (assuming that the guns are "fake") or raping them

Triple A 10-04-2016 12:39 AM

wonder if the movie spoils anything about the show. kinda wanna watch it

Lock Jaw 10-04-2016 01:37 AM

Watched this..... thought it was good..... can definitely see the comparisons to Dollhouse....

Wonder what Ed Harris character is up to..... deeper levels of the game.... seems like maybe some super secret mission quests put there by Anthony Hopkins or something.......

.hack the game to find super secrets in the code.......

Blue Demon 10-04-2016 09:21 AM

DVRd it but haven't watched it. I'm a fan of both Jonah Nolan, and of Michael Crichton...so I have some decent hope for this. Looks good based on the trailer.

Frank Drebin 10-04-2016 09:57 AM

SPOILER: show
Could Ed Harris be a Slugworth type? Like hes there representing whatever competition Westworld has or the government who wants to use the tech for war? He might even have help from one of the other executives which is why hes gone undetected. Then again, he said he'd been there for 30 years so you'd think he wouldn't have been there that long.....

Dunno where any of the thread lines are going on this show and thats fine by me. The world is fascinating.

Fignuts 10-07-2016 08:00 PM

Carnivale got cancelled because of costs too. Probably my favorite show that went unresolved. Still upsrt about that one. Hope this foesn't end up in the same boat.

"terms of service" for visiting westworld that explains some of the "rules" and "absolves them of liability" if humans get hurt and stuff

Quote:

TERMS OF DELOS DESTINATIONS

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF USE CAREFULLY BEFORE ENTERING THE DELOS DESTINATIONS COMPOUND (THE “SERVICE”), AS THEY AFFECT YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS IN RESPECT TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS: Upon entering the Delos Destinations Port of Entry, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions as laid out in this document.

2. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: Upon use of The Service, you agree that Delos, Inc. is not responsible for any injuries that are the result of gameplay. Recreational activity within the Delos Destinations compound does contain risks, and every effort will be made to ensure the safety of every guest. However, Delos, Inc. gives you license to experience the parks as you see fit, and certain injuries may occur.

(a) You dissolve Delos, Inc. of any responsibility financial or criminal that would result from dismemberment, broken bones, heart failure, loss or loss of use of hand and foot digits, shock, marital and relational strife, child endangerment, psychological trauma, delusions or hallucinations resulting from the realistic nature of the park experience, and/or any other physical, emotional, and psychological effects resulting from strenuous park activities.

(b) Statistically speaking, you are more likely to die from lightning strike than to die while in a Delos park. However, the following causes of accidental death have occurred within the Delos Destinations compound: buffalo stampede, self- cannibalism, accidental hanging, drowning, 3rd-degree burns, autoerotic asphyxiation, blunt force trauma, allergic reaction to non-native plant life, falling from great heights, common manslaughter, tumbleweeds. You absolve Delos, Inc. of any wrongdoing if you or anyone in your party suffers bodily harm while using The Service, and you agree to not sue or prosecute Delos, Inc. or any of the smaller entities falling under the Delos Corporation.

(c) All weapons and equipment used within Delos parks are the exclusive property of Delos, Inc. Gun ammunition contains proprietary safeguards related to bullet velocity, and tampering with gun safety features or ammunition automatically transfers liability to you and absolves Delos, Inc. of any injury or death that may occur as a result.

(d) All livestock within the Delos parks are Hosts, with the notable exception of flies. All humanoid and animal Hosts within Delos parks work to keep guests safe, even when the narrative calls for them to appear to endanger guests. Please note, the appearance of danger is not the same as true danger, and all Hosts utilize the Good SamaritanTM reflex to prevent bodily harm. However:

(e) Delos, Inc. shall not have a liability to you by reason of any delay or failure to perform if the delay or failure to perform is occasioned by circumstance beyond our control, which shall refer to any act of God, storm, fire, casualty, unanticipated work stoppage, power outage, satellite failure, strike, lockout, labor dispute, civil disturbance, riot, war, national emergency, Governmental action, Host malfunction, or other circumstance beyond our reasonable control.

3. RULES OF CONDUCT: All guest activity within the parks of the Delos Destinations compound is unrestricted and without limitations. However:

(a) Upon entering the Delos Destinations compound, you agree to voluntarily divest yourself of all cameras, cellular devices, and electronic technology capable of recording your park experience, including virtual reality recorders and devices, and holographic recreation devices. There is no video recording, audio recording, or written recording allowed within the park. You are allowed to utilize the in-park Host character PHOTOGRAPHERS, whose narratives allow for you to take Delos- approved photographs. These photographs will reflect the time period and location of the park narratives you are playing. No other photography is allowed.

(b) You agree that you will leave the Delos Destinations compound on your appointed leave date, and you will make no attempt to hide within the parks and avoid your leave date. A maximum of twenty-eight (28) days is allowed for being within the parks before guests must proceed to the Mesa Gold area for decompression. Any attempts to use the parks to avoid local, federal, or international court dates, jail or prison sentences, prosecution, or payments agreed upon in civil court or arbitration will not be supported by Delos, Inc.

(c) Please act responsibly while a guest at the Mesa Gold resort and while utilizing the Mesa Bar. Please be mindful of other guests, families, and children. Please note that while utilizing the Mesa Bar, you may interact with Delos, Inc. employees; any ideas pitched to Delos, Inc. employees automatically become the property of Delos, Inc., in perpetuity. Also, any mention of human-on-human crime admitted to a Delos, Inc. employee must be brought to the attention of Delos, Inc., and if falling within the laws of the Territory, may have to be reported to local authorities.

4. COPYRIGHTS AND TRADEMARKS: The Service and all materials included are protected by copyrights, patents, trade secrets or other proprietary rights under the respective laws of the Territory and are the exclusive property of Delos, Inc. These materials include, but are not limited to: the intellectual property of all Delos Destinations parks, the Host characters, Hosts’ programming code, the names of locations within the parks, the narratives within the parks, the recipes for specialized food and beverage items within the parks and featured at the Mesa Gold resort, text, photographs, graphics, video and audio content.

(a) As such, you may not copy, reproduce, distribute, publish, enter into a database, display, perform, modify, create derivative works, transmit, or in any way exploit any part of The Service.

(b) Using The Service is a privilege, and by doing so, you agree that you will make no attempt to remove anything belonging to Delos Destinations from the compound. You will not remove any food or beverage items, any Hosts, any clothing, any weapons or equipment, any signage, or any Host body parts from the compound. The only items you may remove from the compound are in-world photographs taken by designated Hosts. All other items are strictly forbidden.

5. INVESTIGATIONS/VIOLATIONS: If Delos, Inc. or any Delos Entity believes, in its sole discretion, that a violation of these Terms has occurred, it may take any and all corrective action it deems appropriate without notice, including contacting local authorities on the mainland. All human-on-human crimes taking place within the Delos Destinations compound will first be investigated by Delos, Inc.; Delos, Inc. has successfully avoided providing personal data in response to a legal process involving outside court entities for its entire history of existence. However, Delos, Inc. reserves the right to disclose personal information requested by a law enforcement agency, and shall have no liability to you for such disclosure.

6. PRIVACY: You are guaranteed absolute privacy while using The Service as outlined in this document, and all guest activities connected with use of The Service remain strictly private and confidential.

(a) You agree that while in the parks, you will respect the privacy rights of other guests, and you will not endeavor to record for the purposes of sharing the activities of other guests in the parks. You will not at any time, directly or indirectly, disclose, disseminate, or duplicate park activity pertaining to your or other guests’ gameplay.

(b) By entering the Delos Destinations Port of Entry, you acknowledge that Delos, Inc. controls the rights to and remains the sole owner of, in perpetuity: all skin cells, bodily fluids, secretions, excretions, hair samples, saliva, sweat, blood, and any other bodily functions not listed here. Delos, Inc. reserves the right to use this property in any way, shape, or form in which the entity sees fit.

7. MISCELLANEOUS: These Terms cannot be changed or terminated orally. Any failure of Delos, Inc. to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. No waiver by Delos, Inc. of any provision of these Terms will be of any force or effect unless made in writing and signed by a duly authorized officer of Delos, Inc. Delos, Inc. may assign its rights and obligations under these Terms, in whole or in part, to any party at any time without any notice. Delos, Inc. reserves the right to deny access to all or part of the Service to you or any person in its sole discretion without notice or liability of any kind.

Best first episode of something I've seen for a long time.

Like the implied relation to the original movie as well.

Really hope this is going to be as good as it looks like it could be. Guess time will tell.

Blue Demon 10-11-2016 06:45 PM

I watched both episodes....really liking it so far, I haven't seen the original movie...maybe I should go back and watch it.

RP 10-11-2016 06:57 PM

Ya its really good. I'm starting to understand a bit more.

Corporate CockSnogger 10-12-2016 12:14 PM

This show is boss. Big fan so far.

Lock Jaw 10-16-2016 01:02 AM

Finally watched the second episode..... ha ha at McPoyle being on..... still really enjoying it.... "look forward" to when everything just goes way off the rails......

Lock Jaw 10-16-2016 01:04 AM

Wonder if we will ever see the world outside of the headquarters there...... That one braud getting loose and running out made me think that maybe all the robots will uprise and escape into the real world and kill all humans...... made me anxious...........

Destor 10-16-2016 11:26 PM

Ep 3

Anyone know how many eps this has? Cause id like 1000 or so

Emperor Smeat 10-16-2016 11:31 PM

10 episodes for this season.

Fignuts 10-18-2016 02:58 AM

Episode 3 is good. Hopkins has been the kind old grandpa, up til now. Showing signs of a heel turn tho. Hope they don't go with the obvious route of revealing hopkins killed his partner. Seems cliche. I don't think they will tho. Show seems way more intelligent than that.

Lock Jaw 10-19-2016 12:26 AM

Just watched episode 3......

Think Arnold somehow merged his consciousness into the game and is now Fing things up........ Think Hopkins isn't a full on heel, but def has his own concepts of what the game is and what it should be, and F anybody who thinks different......

Thought the female bounty hunter chick was a pretty hot braud......

Frank Drebin 10-19-2016 05:38 AM

She was naked a bunch on the last season of Shameless. Has a crazy Eastern European name I can't remember. Bojack Horjmen or something.

And yeah, that was my first thought too about Hey Arnold.

Blue Demon 10-19-2016 10:25 AM

So far it's been getting steadily better. We're really leading to something big I think.

Frank Drebin 10-24-2016 12:03 AM

Really liked this episode. Good pace. Intrigued. Hope we get some real answers at seasons end and that they don't try to answer each question with two more questions and we go down the x files never ending rabbit hole of conspiracy.

Lock Jaw 10-24-2016 12:11 AM

Yeah, another good episode.....

Sounds like whatever quest Ed Harris is on was a super secret quest designed by Arnold, perhaps one that results in the hosts being able to act freely/kill guests.

Felix Leiter mentioned the maze when he was talking to Delores at the beginning of the episode...... could he know more than he lets on? I think so......

Triple A 10-24-2016 05:19 PM

Episode was freaking sweet... didn't "love" episode 3 so was glad this one went back to being "freaking sweet"...

Feels like they keep dropping a bunch of hints that Bernard and other employees are robots and stuff but idk if it's just to "throw you off"

Maybe the best ep so far. Like I've been saying though, they need to have a payoff - any payoff - at the end of all this intrigue and mystery. Otherwise this is all for nought if they "Mass Effect 3" this.

Lock Jaw 11-01-2016 12:43 AM

No idea what that means, but yeah, another good episode.

Show seems "jam packed".....

Feel like Delores will kill all humans eventually........

RP 11-01-2016 12:54 AM

I dont knonw whats going on.

Frank Drebin 11-01-2016 11:01 AM

@lock Jaw

Could also call it Lost or X-Files. Just repeating what I've been saying about creating so many questions but giving no answers.

I like where this is going but if we get a cliffhanger or no real answers about what the hell is going on by the end of the season I'm not coming back for season 2.

Things that need to be answered at this point include: Who is the man in black and what are his motives? What's this whole deal with Arnold? The maze? What is Ford's plan?

All of these can certainly be answered easily enough in the last 5 episodes, but writers have this terrible tendency to just keep going in an attempt to keep the audience hooked/guessing without having an endgame when it comes to Sci fi.

Some of those need answers..all though?

Frank Drebin 11-01-2016 12:29 PM

I think so. Why not? Which one of those could be drawn out over multiple seasons? You don't need a resolution for Ford or MIB'S plans, whatever they are, but you need to know what they're trying to accomplish and why.

Frank Drebin 11-01-2016 12:33 PM

Also, I'm going to just assume this is all happening at the same time and we aren't looking at some of the same characters in multiple timelines until said otherwise.

Lock Jaw 11-07-2016 01:29 AM

Episode seemed "kind of dumb" tonight, in my opinion..............

Like, why isn't anyone questioning the lowly grunt as to why he is giving a tour of the building to a host......

Also seemed "anti-climactic" in a way...... like they got tired of a "slow build" and decided to just make that one braud "understand everything" and "force changes" to her programming.....

Dunno.........

Fignuts 11-07-2016 01:35 AM

People could have thought he was just testing her, or taking her to another "department".

I thought it wad a good episode. Plus fuck yeah @ fake plastic trees

Triple A 11-07-2016 03:41 AM

I also didn't like a lot of this episode I think... I didn't like the whole thing with that woman who works there trying to "find out what's going on" or whatever... Felt like I was watching some "corny ass movie" like "Jurassic World" or something... Most of the episode kinda seemed "off" tbh... maybe cause of the way it was directed

Pretty sure his job is to just patch up wounds. Not supposed to wake up the hosts at all.

Lock Jaw 11-07-2016 09:31 AM

Like, he was hiding that bird because he isn't supposed to be doing anything besides patch the hosts up, but he aspired to more........ but now he is doing all this stuff out in the open and just mumbling "please, I could be fired"..... but apparently no one pays attention or asks questions.....

Frank Drebin 11-07-2016 06:52 PM

Kinda agree with you, LJ, I chose to let it go since we don't know how the whole place works and what is considered normal or unusual in a workplace like that.

Trips, I was waiting for something to happen to her the whole time too. As soon as she was on the elevator by herself you could see where it was headed. Corny, but whatever I guess.

Frank Drebin 11-07-2016 06:55 PM

I had a chance to watch both Westworld and Future world this weekend. One theory that might be debunked based on that...

SPOILER: show
In the movies, the hosts can't deal with a high humidity environment. Seemed like there was water everywhere "downstairs" so if those stay true, Bernard isn't a host. Kind of a stretch, but wanted to throw it out there.

Destor 11-07-2016 06:56 PM

Good spin on who the terminator would be. THis season has mirrored the film heavily so it was coming.

Love they went full dollhouse on this ep.

Yeah, I guess...... might be an "environment" where everybody just "minds their own business" and "doesn't ask questions"..... unless you are one of the "people in charge"...... so if he had run into someone with any sort of "power", he would have been "done", but since the only people who saw him were "minions", they didn't care.........

We only have two or three people we care about now. Two of them them arent human so death has little meaning. Hard to create tension why the stakes arew that low.

And beyond that Dolloris' "mission" we know so little about even her failing doesnt carry weight.

I love the show and am beyond hooked but these are issues dramatically.

Triple A 11-14-2016 03:21 PM

probable/possible theories:

SPOILER: show
Read some thing speculating that Ford will probably create a host version of Theresa to hide the fact that he had her murdered

Which also "begs the question" of how many other employees met a similar fate for trying to meddle with Ford's plans,,,

Also a theory about Bernard actually being a host version of Arnold, who was murdered by Ford? Idk if that makes sense though, for a robot to have a different name and personality but look exactly like Arnold? Has no one else ever seen the real Arnold?

I think that theory is based mostly on when Ford showed Bernard this photo and said that it was a photo of Arnold, but the 2 people in the photo are Ford and his father. Looks like there is a space for a 3rd person that Bernard can't "see" which is y people think that Bernard couldn't see "himself" / Arnold.

Yeah that way she can say whatever needs to be said to get the board off of him, then she can kill herself and absolve him of murder

HBO recently ordered a new season to be made and rumored to be arriving in 2018.

Looks like HBO's gamble hoping this would be their big replacement for Game of Thrones ended up paying off since the weekly viewer average is higher than what GoT did for its first season. Also doing a lot better than True Detective did for its first season.

Kind of bad data though isnt it? West world is able to have higher veiwership due to GoT raises the number of subscribers. Their retention rate with be interesting.

Emperor Smeat 11-14-2016 07:48 PM

Somewhat. By default it needed to be a huge success because of the bigger sub base and huge sums of money HBO spent for the show.

If it was marginally better, HBO probably would have been frustrated because of the money spent and if it was worse, they'd be in a bigger panic since they'd have nothing big ready to replace GoT.

Since the show is a big hit, HBO probably sees enough in their data to believe any subs drops after GoT's ends is either going to be small or non-existent with what Westworld can bring to the network.

Maybe
SPOILER: show
Bernard was a real person and the government are stake holders looking into transferring consciousness into robots and the "theme park" is a way to pay for it.

Also glad Dolores's "dad" is BACK

Triple A 11-21-2016 04:48 PM

damn... theory / possible spoiler (maybe don't read):

SPOILER: show
Reddit comments speculating that the Man in Black is William (McPoyle) 30 years later. https://www.reddit.com/r/westworld/c...ssion/da911qg/

Cause he said "I though they would've retired you" to that lady, who is the one that checked in McPoyle.

I think it was confirmed when he says "so I came back because this place has a way of bringing out your true self." That is what he told Dolores on the train in the last episode
Feel like I wish I hadn't read this... should just try to watch the show without spoiling it 4 myself!

Also I watched the original movie and it was kinda shitty. Felt incredibly rushed and simple and basic. The show is nothing like the movie.

If you watch it with the fact that it predates terminator in mind it can be appreciated

I have adopted this as a theory:

SPOILER: show
MiB is the "CEO" of the company that William and Logan work for.....

Innovator 11-22-2016 01:08 PM

One working theory is that the MiB is the human from the original series

Lock Jaw 11-22-2016 02:00 PM

Would hate that, I think..... don't want it to be a Jurassic Park sequel situation where it is like "you didn't learn from the first disaster you had?"

Lock Jaw 11-28-2016 12:08 AM

William has snapped and is in the zone
