Pau Gasol on his way to San Antonio.

Aldridge, Ginobili, Parker, Gasol, and (possible) Duncan. Pop's Boys might be better than the Durant-added Warriors.

McLegend 07-04-2016 04:36 PM

I think the Warriors will win 58-63 games and not make the finals.

Still a really good season though.

Simple Fan 07-04-2016 04:45 PM

It's Championship or bust for them though a really good season won't cut it.

According to the Boston Herald, the breakdown behind the scenes with teams wanting Durrant ended up being Durrant liking the Cs but not the East, wouldn't have picked the Warriors if it wasn't for Jerry West, and seems like the whole time he wanted out of OKC because of Westbrook.

Quote:

the Clippers, despite the fact they would have to gut the club’s support players, were very much in the picture early after their talk with Durant, but pulled out when faced with the potential of losing some of their own key free agents.
Quote:

“He’s told people for a while that he likes that whole Celtics thing and the tradition and the way the people there are into the team — all the teams up there,” said a league source. “But I still think he was looking out West. The part I don’t know is how much the Horford signing made him stop and think again about Boston, but I think it had to be some.”
Quote:

Interestingly, some of the teams in the hunt were told that Durant was turned off by something he heard in the Warriors’ initial presentation.

“They were telling him about how they were going to win championships even if he didn’t come there,” said a coach. “I don’t think they came right out and said he wasn’t going to win if he didn’t sign with them — that would be crazy — but I was told that’s how he kind of took it.”

Said another source, a call from Warriors exec Jerry West smoothed over any issues Durant may have had.

“I think that was important,” he said. “I think Kevin was interested in Golden State big-time as the playoffs went on, but if he had any doubts, I think hearing from someone of Jerry West’s stature was important. When Jerry talks, you listen. Some young guys may not get how big a deal Jerry West is, but Kevin is a bright guy and he’s into the history of the game. He knows what Jerry West is to basketball.

“I think that (call) made him feel more comfortable about leaving OKC and coming to a team that was already great.”
Quote:

The club might also have had the idea that concerns in that area were a big part of why Durant was seriously thinking about leaving the Thunder in the first place. One person close to Durant and Russell Westbrook said their relationship is “kind of complicated.”

Said another Western source, “Look, KD and Russ are friends. They get along great off the court. They’re good guys. But Kevin feels like no one can control Russell when he’s on the court — not even Russell. Everyone sees it. It’s no secret. I think that’s been hard on Kevin. Russ is one of the top players in the game, but things have to fit.”

Been rumored the way the talks were going, if Durrant staid with the Thunder and signed a 2 year deal with an option after 1 year, Cs likely would have nabbed him next offseason. Horford deal came way too late to actually swing his decision this offseason.

DaveWadding 07-05-2016 01:38 PM

The 2010s Thunder are now the equivalent of the 90s Orlando Magic.

Don't steal a city's team after they get the Number 1 draft pick the year before. That's the biggest bitch move of em all.

Remember when the Portland Trail Blazers had the #1 pick and selected Greg Oden? Me neither.

Simple Fan 07-05-2016 06:15 PM

Trail Blazers fan, I do. Thought it was a great pick at the time.

Ruien 07-05-2016 08:07 PM

I think the Pau Gaso signing is being way under rated. Dude is still a beast and will be 5 times better than Duncan was last year.

screech 07-06-2016 05:27 PM

Spurs shipped Boris Diaw to the Jazz today.

We go now to Gertner for his thoughts.

Frank Drebin 07-06-2016 10:30 PM

lol Bulls. If only this was 2013.

Enjoy the 5-8 seeds and the 19th pick in the draft for the next few years. NBA Hell.

Emperor Smeat 07-06-2016 10:39 PM

Seems like Pat Riley is the reason for today's decision and probably didn't like Wade dragging this on for too long.

Bulls don't officially have him yet since they need to clear more cap space at the moment.

Bulls really need to learn what rebuilding means.

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-06-2016 11:36 PM

If they cared they wouldn't have let Tom Thibodeau go.

Frank Drebin 07-07-2016 12:32 AM

That was more of a complicated situation than people realize. Both sides were at fault. I'm on Thibs' side more but he didn't make things easy. Not an easy guy to get along with. There's a reason he wanted total control of a team.

Gasol won't play defense and they'll have to sub him out late in the game.

No, but I remember when the Cavs were shitty, and instead of getting Kobe, or at least trying to make a play to trade for AI, they picked Vitaly Potapinko because they were doing that "we don't want any stars" nonsense. Took forever to pull out of that nosedive. And he wasn't even the big Eastern European we kept from that draft.

Tom Guycott 07-07-2016 08:30 PM

With all the trading, I can't tell which ones are jokes anymore.

Rebirth 07-08-2016 12:08 PM

Allan Crabbe just got 75 million dollars.

I had to look him up.

Simple Fan 07-08-2016 12:16 PM

Who did he sign with? Crabbe was with the Blazers. Solid backup guard.

Simple Fan 07-08-2016 12:21 PM

Ok it's with the Nets, Portland can match it but I doubt they will.

Clerk 07-10-2016 08:25 PM

CAVS STILL GONNA WIN BABY! ITS FUCKIN LIT!!!

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-11-2016 10:57 AM

Tim Duncan quietly retires after Kobe made a big deal about a final season. Always has to do it better than Bryant.

screech 07-11-2016 11:05 AM

Love me some Tim Duncan. Bummed to see him go, but what a great career.

NBA has reportedly pulled the All-Star game from Charlotte due to their LGBT law. Looking at New Orleans as the new venue.

SlickyTrickyDamon 07-21-2016 06:22 PM

About time this absurd hatred cost them something they care about: it's all about the monnaaay.

Krimzon7 07-24-2016 09:55 PM

Ahem.

Lebron won another one.

RP 07-28-2016 10:35 PM

Pacers are stacked next season. I hope they play Paul George at SG. And bring Monta Ellis off the bench

C Myles Turner
PF Al Jefferson
SF Thadeus Young
SG Paul George
PG Jeff Teague

Thats a pretty damn stacked starting lineup. And the CJ Miles, Monta Ellis and Rodney Stuckey and Aaron Brooks coming off the bench.

Or they put Thad Young at PF and bring Jefferson off the bench and start Monta Ellis at the sg position. That's some real depth right there.

How did they get Al Jefferson and when? Or am I thinking of someone else? He was on the Hornets right?

ClockShot 09-23-2016 06:50 PM

Kevin Garnett calls it a career.

Ruien 09-23-2016 07:21 PM

Damn. Would have liked hin to play one year with Thibs but that would probably be more work than he wants to put in. Sad because the young team could use him.

Emperor Smeat 09-23-2016 07:50 PM

Probably could have pulled a Jordan by helping out with practices and development had Flip Saunders not died. Him and Saunders were planning on buying the team prior to Saunders passing away last year.

Stride 09-27-2016 12:17 PM

you guys post here like other teams are gonna win the finals it doesnt matter what team has who the cavs will win every year so suck off nerds

McLegend 09-30-2016 07:06 PM

Ben Simmons fractured his foot. I'm devastated.
