What are you enjoying in the world of professional wrestling today?

While it's quite understandable for fans to be upset over the direction major promotions are going in, I'd love to know what are you enjoying in today's professional wrestling landscape?

While the Noid approves of the "watch alongs", he'd like to concentrate on current offerings.

ron the dial 10-13-2021 03:28 PM

ok fine i'll ignore the "major" promotions and say that i love what effy has been doing in gcw/all over the indies. his current feud with matt cardona is maybe the first time i've ever actually cared about cardona. hell, cardona's whole gcw stint this year has been a lot of fun.

I’m enjoying watching it all come crashing down. Seriously. It’s cynical, but it’s fascinating to watch. It’s like if the bottom dropped out of Nitro in 1999 but the WWF weren’t able to get hot either.

Destor 10-13-2021 04:46 PM

litle to nothing. certainly nothing as a whole.

with the americanization of japan in many ways there will never be a product to my tastes again

I've basically loved AEW's entire run. It obviously isn't perfect, the year in Jacksonville with no fans certainly had its down moments but any wrestling company would be hard pressed to keep momentum going in those global circumstances. But even the so-so Dynamites usually had more bad than good for my tastes and I never felt like I was wasting my time.

The early Dynamite crowds pre-COVID were so red hot and I was yearning for that again, and since they've been back on the road they're doing their best work. Feels like appointment television every week. I hadn't felt this way about wrestling in so long.

It’s wrestling’s fault it isn’t good. There’s plenty to be happy about in life. It just isn’t current wrestling.

Supreme Olajuwon 10-13-2021 09:29 PM

I’d love to see a list of what makes you happy

Noid 10-13-2021 09:37 PM

I love WALTER. Give me WALTER and McIntyre in a chopping contest. Alpha Academy are great and should be tag team champions. Shinsuke Nakamura is the greatest Intercontinental Champion in ages. How is Timmy Thatcher not the NXT Heavyweight Champion of the World?

ron the dial 10-13-2021 10:15 PM

oh shitn almost forgot: love that danhausen.

Big Poppa Pauly 10-14-2021 09:05 AM

AEW, generally speaking. Take Ross away and the commentary is a lot of fun. Decent action every week, not the same guys and gals each show. Usually enjoy what they have to offer.

WWE, not much. Sacked off NXT before the relaunch. Watch Smackdown some weeks. Love me some Roman, some Heyman and some McAfee.

Watch the WWE PPVs still. Usually something to enjoy. As a whole though, WWE is pretty brutal right now.

Don't bother with anything else.

You don't read every single post ever made?

I'm definitely intrigued by the Creed brothers. They seem very promising.

As someone who was solidly behind Gable for years, he's slowly creeping into Dolph Ziggler territory in terms of interest. For all the praise Cesaro deserves for his in-ring capabilities, his character work is subpar. I don't subscribe to Vince's logic that he's foreign because there are international acts who have eclipsed state side performers in terms of mic work.

I want NXT to feature main roster talent sporadically. Alpha Academy vs. The Creed Brothers could be amazing. Put Jason Jordan in the corner of The Creed Brothers for some tension. Or have him turn on Gable & Otis for an actual feud there.

But main roster-wise, while I think Gable & Otis are amazing as a team, I’d like to see Gable take on a bit of a singles role with Otis as his heavy. Maybe on Raw and let Gable win the US Title and be a proud and arrogant US hero.

Damian Priest can either move up or move over to SmackDown.

Cesaro is...mmm. I think you could present him as a top star and his ring skills can carry it. Not THE top star, but he’s kind of like a Chris Benoit that way (awfulness aside). He’s always got value as a tag team performer. He’s like a better Billy Gunn that way. I want to see him vs. WALTER real bad. Put that on Raw? I think that’s a reason to watch the show, which is hard to say these days.

My lazy plan to try and fix Raw (impossible):

* WALTER to Raw. Maybe Ilja Draganov too.

* Alpha Academy to Raw.

* Timothy Thatcher, Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan, Danny Burch.

Raw basically gets a “technical” division. That NXT UK style, mixed with a couple of big boys like Sheamus and Keith Lee who beat the shit out of each other.

If you did a G1-style tournament and had WALTER, Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Chad Gable, Keith Lee and Drew McIntyre on one side. Throw in Jeff Hardy and John Morrison for a bit of variation. The other block is Cesaro, Sheamus, Tim Thatcher, Drew Gulak, Oney Lorcan, Otis, Matt Riddle and Ilya Draganov. That’s quite a few weeks of just solid wrestling action every week. Whatever.

Roman Reigns is easily one of the most enjoyable acts in professional wrestling today. He carries himself like a top guy and his gimmick is sheer perfection. A stark contrast from where he was not long ago. It'll mean so much when someone finally scores a pinfall victory over him.

On top of this, we have the likes of Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley in the world title picture. While there is a vast scope for improvement, it's detrimental to discount the positives.
