Picked it up today. Can’t watch til Wednesday though.

The credits scenes were pretty predictable in all honesty. Good flick though.

Just received my copy of Kolchak: The Night Stalker the TV show that spiritually preceded the X Files. I mostly ordered it because of Darren McGavin but I hear it is legitimately good stuff.

Anybody seen it before? I'm hoping for a jovial monster of the week type deal with a bit of substance to it. Like a cross between The Twilight Zone and Eerie Indiana.

Are you for real? You were able to predict the first credit scene?

Seanny One Ball 12-07-2018 03:15 PM

I assumed that
SPOILER: show
some of them would die in the credits scene...because what else could they do with it? We know 50% of the population dies and in Infinity War you never see what happens to Ant Man and his buddies. It's easy to assume Ant Man lives because there have to be a few heroes left to fight Thanos in Avengers 4.

It wasn't hard to predict, it was the logical way to show the timeline and effect of Infinity War on the Ant Man storyline.

XL 12-07-2018 05:38 PM

Yeah, have to agree. As soon as the scene started I was like “I know what’s gonna happen here”. Still cool though.

GD 12-07-2018 06:09 PM

Ugh! I can't even with you two right now.

Wreck It Ralph 2 - 8.5/10

Very cute.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-08-2018 05:17 PM

Sausage Party 5/10 (I'm being generous)

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-08-2018 06:45 PM

Don't Breathe 7/10

slik 12-09-2018 01:15 AM

Robin Hood - 6.5/10

Not sure why they tried to modernize the costumes so much, it didn't help the story and it was really distracting. Decent action scenes but middle of the road, plotwise.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-09-2018 11:51 AM

Unless you have Alan Rickman chewing the scenery and practically stealing the movie, a film on Robin Hood is not worth watching.

The Robin Hood film from 6 years ago (or so) was okay, except for Russell Crowe's dodgy accent and anachronistic WW2-esque troop carriers.

Sixx 12-09-2018 01:19 PM

Why is Little John black and not huge?

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-09-2018 05:04 PM

Syriana 6.5/10

Lock Jaw 12-10-2018 12:22 AM

Tonight I watched..... The Last Samurai!! After more than a decade of meaning to watch it again.

I will give it a solid 8/10

He is supposed to be Arabian and Islamic bc The Sheriff of Nottingham is funding the Arabs to defeat England in the Crusades.

Just like in the original story.

Arabs are not black, are they?

Still, what about the "not huge" part?

Seanny One Ball 12-10-2018 09:51 AM

Moor was a term used to describe Arabs, Africans and Muslim Europeans of the time.

So yes, a Moor could be black.

Sixx 12-10-2018 10:01 AM

Wait, why are you explaining the word "moor"?

Seanny One Ball 12-10-2018 10:13 AM

It may go some way to explaining the confusion as to why a character can be black and Arabic.

I am excited about this

Seanny One Ball 12-11-2018 05:56 PM

Watching The Meg,
SPOILER: show
there's an Oriental woman in this who comes off as a dangerously stupid bastard. They give her these lines like she's some arrogant professional then she continually fucks things up, nearly gets Statham killed and somehow gives him shit for it afterwards and he just smiles every fucking time.

I dunno who wrote this but their interpretation of comedy is basically "women screw things up and act superior regardless".

I don't find it funny.

In one particularly face-screwing example she actually sticks Statham on a winch in the ocean and when they start it to winch him back in she stops it just as the Meg takes chase to say "No vibrations!" Then realised Statham is now dead in the water so they have to restart the winch.

I'm sorry but that sort of thing pulls me out of films. That's not a mistake, that's a director purposefully making a character such a shithead that you lose focus on the action, the spectacle that cost millions to lure you in in the first place.

Idiotic.

Seanny One Ball 12-11-2018 06:04 PM

Three screenwriters is never a good sign. All male too. Clearly never heard a mother-in-law joke they didn't piss themselves at.

Seanny One Ball 12-11-2018 06:18 PM

Rainn Wilson is always worth watching and the kid in this is quite cute so there are good bits in between the varying examples of gross negligence.

The action is predictable as hell though. It's not as good as Deep Blue Sea, far from it. It's probably around the level of Jaws 4.

Fignuts 12-14-2018 03:18 AM

The Equalizer 10/10

Someone could probably critique that there is no tension in it because Denzel is basically Batman and barely breaks a sweat, but fuck it. Sometimes it's just really satisfying to see a revenge movie where a dude just stomps the shit out of a bunch of evil fucks, tension be damned, and this delivers in that regard, possibly better than anything I've ever seen.

I got it in a two pack with the second one, so I'm gonna fire that up in a bit.

Fignuts 12-14-2018 03:52 AM

The Equalizer 2 6/10

Fuck, not nearly as good. Pacing is really bad. Part of what made the first one so good was that the people he fought were real scum bags. These guys are bad people but they're just kind of random soldier guys. Nowhere near as slimy as the russian mafia from the first. Main antagonist sucks.

Also, the other instances of him helping neighborhood people feels a bit more forced and out of place within the main narrative, whereas in the first it felt more organic.

Finally, there is a twist that fucking anyone could see coming.

Into the SpiderVerse - 9/10

Seanny One Ball 12-14-2018 10:12 AM

I too watched The Equalizer 2 last night. Not as good as the first, the tone is consistent but the story isn't depicted nearly as well and it's lacking in the sudden, jarring action.

It does have two excellent fight scenes but they're early on and mean nothing to the story.

I like Antoine Fuqua and I love Denzel but they can do a lot better than this. The first was a strong action film that suffered a release too close to John Wick. The sequel is definite proof that Wick deserves a franchise, Equalizer does not.
They should have tied Denzel down to a short run tv series remake. They struggled to fill two hours with the plot here.

Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse - 9/10

Really fun movie w/ fantastic animation.

GD 12-14-2018 07:55 PM

That post credit scene though :)

Disturbed316 12-14-2018 11:14 PM

12 Years a Slave - 8/10

slik 12-14-2018 11:23 PM

The Mule - 9/10

I can't really find any fault with it. It's not a classic so I can't give it a 10 but it's perfect in every other regard.

Into the Spiderverse-10/10

Best Spider-Man movie to date, imo. Miles as a character is great. There were real stakes and consequences, the animation was outstanding. Like a motion comic. And I liked what seemed to be the Raimi Spider-Man and seeing how his life turned out.

Overall I absolutely loved this film. Cannot recommend it enough. The end credits scene is stellar.

Surprised to learn that Chris Pine voiced the original Spiderman

Holy fuck I didn't know that. The whole voice cast was stellar.

slik 12-15-2018 03:05 AM

I'd say it was my favorite Spidey film alongside Spider-Man 2 (The Raimi one). When you think how off the rails this story could have gone it makes it all the more impressive.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-15-2018 10:17 AM

Aquaman 6/10

Kinda naff, and ends up becoming a huge CGI mess; it will not age well.

Wonder Woman remains the best of the current DC films at the mo, but that is not a lofty position.

slik 12-16-2018 04:16 AM

Rich Hill - 9/10

One of the better documentaries I've seen. Here's the trailer since it's not well known:

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse - 8.5/10

Was really fun and entertaining, and the animation looked great.

Fignuts 12-16-2018 10:52 PM

I just saw it too, and ended up stopping and buying Spider-man on PS4 on the way home. So that should tell you how I feel about it.
