360 RROD Question

Just got a RROD. For a day or so it's been stuttering, then today it froze in-game with white vertical lines. This made me feel it was a GPU issue. Did this two more times then I got the RROD.

I know I'm probably fucked, but I'm seeing some different fixes for it. Is this a "fixable" RROD or is it not salvageable?

It's a really shitty one if you wanna fix it yourself. You'd actually have to go all the way down to the motherboard and then you'll see a nice ridged brick of metal on top of the GPU. You'll need to clean off the GPU and it's surrounding perimeter with a Q-tip and some solution. Then you gotta lay down some thermal paste around the GPU. (Also, on the back of the board are two metal clamps in the shape of an X. Just go ahead and toss those) So yea that's my prior knowledge of doing it yourself. I accidentally fucked up at one step and just put my foot through it. If you wanna do it yourself that's about the best I know but it's best to just send it in or get the new slim model

Yeah, I figured that's what I'd have to do, saw a YouTube video on it. Might try it for the fuck of it with the thought process of "I'm gonna get a new one if this doesn't work anyway". This was a unit I had sent back like two years ago for a RROD. No idea if it was the same one or they repaired my old one, but that's where this one came from. And if I'm gonna pay $100+, I may as well get a system that probably won't shit out on me instead of taking my chances with whatever they send me.

Will probably just get a slim. I'll try to nab one during black Friday I guess.

It's not that hard if you just take your time, follow whatever instructions you're using, and not get frustrated.

The only shitty part was it crapped out again like 5 months later and I couldn't fix it again.

On a side note, I can tear apart a 360 in 5 and a bit minutes now.

1) Get a Slim 4gb 360

2) Unscrew your existing 360 hard drive out of the caddy

3) (optional, it will fit anyway but recommended) Get something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hard-Disk-Dr...item43a9de7a9d

4) Shove it in the back of the slim, saving money AND not fannying about moving saves

5) Thank Hasney with hookers

I pretty much invented the RROD fix on the 360. Then some other asshole took credit for it.

Those are reliable, then?

I ask mostly because I'm not sure how much life my 360 has left in it.
