The general bubble doesn’t get much airplay, but there are people out there who absolutely do see Punk as a failed MMA guy and Bryan as a guy that couldn’t hack it in WWE anymore.

For me, the backdrop they’re against just doesn’t do them favors. It was never going to. Like how some people go “I just don’t think (x) is a good fit for New Japan.” I just don’t think Punk and Bryan are really good fits for AEW.

I’m happy these guys are leaving WWE. But there’s just nowhere for them to go that seems like the perfect environment for them. Imagine some other promotion getting Christian Cage, CM Punk, Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson and Brock Lesnar this year. Just epic.

Maybe TK will get bored, ask his dad for more money and just buy the NWA or start a new promotion for either Punk or Bryan to actually book? Then he can send the guys that want to do pro-wrestling there and leave AEW for the sports entertainment stuff.

I absolutely do not see Bryan as a guy who cannot hack it anymore.

I absolutely do see CM Punk as an embarrassing failure at MMA. No matter how they book him, I can't forget that this is a dude that was so inept at real fighting he was unable to even defend himself from being pinched and tickled by a guy high on weed who was himself so bad Dana White fired him after a win!

If I watch any of the Naked Gun Movies, no matter how funny they are, when I see O.J. Simpson I remember that he murdered 2 people. When I see CM Punk talking tough to another wrestler, I see his destroyed face and horrible spinning kicks. He has no lore in my eyes.

Bryan is a much more important and better signing.

Mr. Nerfect 09-18-2021 10:36 PM

I can personally ignore the MMA stuff. Not saying everyone can, or that they’re obliged to. I can disconnect them as separate sports. But I don’t begrudge anyone for not being that into Punk. When he was gone, even his wrestling run seemed overhyped to me. It was largely based around him being an other to a frustrating product, more so than him being actually as good as I was trying to will him to be.

He was my Sunday Night Heat darlings getting a chance. I wanted something else so bad. But Punk was not the guy that John Cena was, for example. Although I was too in the bubble to see it at the time.

Bryan is one of my favorite workers ever. He’s just been featured in a prominent role on WWE TV and has never truly embarrassed himself. I’m genuinely not surprised if he were an actual bigger needle-mover. My problem with him in AEW is that he’s surrounded by a circus that makes what he represents so much more trivial, no matter how good he actually is.

I don’t blame people for still loving him, but I have actually seen people who feel that in their own ordering of kayfabe — trying to make this shit make sense — he got his ass kicked in WWE and went to AEW to be a big fish. People think way differently about professional wrestling than the Observer would have you believe.

I’m not saying this is a popular opinion or whatever. But there are a lot of people who just can’t seem to, at least at this point, get into the idea of Bryan Danielson vs. what he was as Daniel Bryan — right, wrong or otherwise. Meanwhile a lot of AEW fanboys are throwing their arms up like this is Nash and Hall joining WCW in 1996.

The numbers don’t lie.

How did they mess up Rex Steiner’s name already? Bron Breaker? Lmaoooo that sounds like what a sitcom or kids cartoon show would name a wrestling character.

AEW has teamed up with The Owen Hart Foundation

Quote:

This collaboration includes launching the annual Owen Hart Cup Tournament within AEW, which will see the winner receive a Cup known as “The Owen,” as well as the production and distribution of unique and original Owen Hart merchandise, including specified retail goods as well as the upcoming AEW console video game.

This alliance incorporates opportunities to develop Owen Hart action figures via AEW’s partnership with Jazwares, apparel, posters, and additional collectable merchandise. Owen Hart is survived by his wife, Dr. Martha Hart, who spearheads The Owen Hart Foundation with a mission of providing global aid to at-risk communities (e.g., scholarships, housing, various forms international assistance, food drives, backpack giveaways and Christmas projects).

If whoever wins "The Owen" doesn't carry it around everywhere and flaunt it as much as possible they should get it revoked!

slik 09-20-2021 11:24 AM

agreed lol

Evil Vito 09-20-2021 12:02 PM

This is fantastic news. Super pumped for the tourney and for him to be in the video game.

Bad News Gertner 09-20-2021 12:04 PM

Tony Khan milking another wrestler death. At least Owen didn't die at the hands of Tony Khan like Brodie Lee.

Evil Vito 09-20-2021 12:04 PM

Also this does seem to contradict the longstanding notion that Martha Hart hates wrestling. Seems she really just hates wrestling promotions that kill her husband. Imagine that.

Bad News Gertner 09-20-2021 12:09 PM

It's really weird that they are doing all with for a wrestler who never stepped foot in the ring. Kinda like when the WWE inducts someone in their Hall of Fame who never wrestled there.

slik 09-20-2021 12:38 PM

Hope Ricky Starks wins the initial 'The Owen' cup

Damian Rey 2.0 09-20-2021 01:38 PM

Kevin Steen gonna be the first winner.

Whoever it is, they have to beat MJF for it.

slik 09-20-2021 02:32 PM

I hope Vince sues AEW for every dollar they are worth. Using Owen Hart like this is just taunting WWE. GD 09-20-2021 04:19 PM

Holy shit!

Jordan 09-20-2021 04:33 PM

This is really good for the memory of Owen.

Mr. Nerfect 09-20-2021 05:13 PM

Feels exploitative as hell. Surprised they haven’t used Vickie Guerrero to pump Eddie Guerrero’s image all over merchandise yet.

Sepholio 09-20-2021 05:14 PM

Ricky Starks is now permanently replacing Mark Henry on commentary for Rampage.

Mr. Nerfect 09-20-2021 05:35 PM

I’m so ready for this promotion to be cancelled and just go away. Fucking wrestling, man.

Lock Jaw 09-20-2021 05:53 PM

Don't think it is going to go away anytime soon.... if Impact wrestling can still be alive, then survival chances are good....

Supreme Olajuwon 09-20-2021 08:01 PM

The Owen thing is very cool. Surprised they named a tournament for him over Brodie though.

rez 09-20-2021 10:02 PM

Khan family need to sell off Fulham F.C. AEW is booming but Jaguars ....well, are the Jags.

rez 09-20-2021 10:05 PM

they then could hire Noid in as an executive wrestling consultant

I'm not a big fan of the guy but they're totally reaching. These college coaches get way outta their comfort zone, fo sho.

Didn’t get through his entire review, so I don’t know what I disagree and agree with there, but I disagreed with him on NXT 2.0. Not so much the particulars, he and Brian made some great points about logic that could be tightened up, and he saw a lot of potential in the guys. But NXT 2.0 was a way easier watch than your average Dynamite.

XL 09-21-2021 12:22 PM

Is he on the payroll?

drave 09-21-2021 12:37 PM

Going by the past here, he MUST be a paid shill. Shame on him!!!

Cornette SouledOut?!!?!

Evil Vito 09-21-2021 03:48 PM

Bryan Danielson pens a goodbye letter to WWE in the Players Tribune

And this is why he's one of, if not the most respected current wrestler in the business. Seriously a class act. Boggles my mind that anyone could actually be mad at him for leaving.

slik 09-21-2021 04:27 PM

love that

Evil Vito 09-22-2021 12:04 AM

That looks super cool, can't wait to see it in action tomorrow.

Evil Vito 09-22-2021 12:08 AM

Show will be done around midnight assuming all of Rampage is being taped after Dynamite, the lights out match between Kingston/Mox and Suzuki/Archer will probably be the last match of the night then, and really Kingston doing the post-show speech to send everyone home will be super fitting.

I'd imagine a ton of people will be flocking to the Willets Point train after that. Subways heading into Manhattan every 15 min or so. My hotel is conveniently located a block away from both Penn Station and the end of the 7 line, so even someone who sucks at navigating like me can't possibly fuck up getting back.

Sepholio 09-22-2021 12:23 AM

Vito just jinxed himself into a night of wandering the mean streets of Metropolis into the wee hours of the morning. He will be telling us stories of how all the buildings looked the same and he thought he had slipped into a parallel dimension horror film.

Sepholio 09-22-2021 12:24 AM

I love you Vito. Please don't get accosted by wraiths and/or eaten by zombies.

Evil Vito 09-22-2021 12:35 AM

Haha, generally when I've ventured into city public transport I'm always with a buddy that lives there and they know exactly what train to go on and when.

Leaving NXT Takeover at WM weekend in 2019, I made the mistake of getting on an express train instead of a local. My hotel was again right next to a subway station, that we then promptly went right past lol.
