Silver King Dies in the Ring

Silver King Passes Away at Age 51 While Wrestling

INDIE / MISCSmeatMay 12, 2019
Legendary Mexican wrestler Silver King, real name César Cuauhtémoc González Barrón, passed away yesterday at the age of 51.

PWInsider reported that King suffered a possible heart attack during a match against Juventud Guerrera held yesterday for Lucha Libre World at the Roundhouse Theatre in London, England. King reportedly was seen visibility motionless on the mat following an attempted clothesline spot by King. Due to the confusion, neither Guerrera nor the match referee were aware of King’s actual health status, which caused a delay for medical treatment to be administered to King. King’s passing was initially announced by Sexy Star and later confirmed by website Lucha Blog.

King, who was the son of legendary Dr. Wagner and brother of Dr. Wagner Jr., started his legendary career in wrestling in 1985, which spanned for over three decades prior to his tragic passing. Besides working for notable major Mexican promotions, King also spent some time in Japan working for both All Japan Pro Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling. In the United States, King is best known for his work in WCW as a member of their Cruiserweight division from 1997 to 2000.

Outside of wrestling, King would become best known for his role as the lead villain Ramses in the 2006 comedy film Nacho Libre.

I saw the clip. It was odd. He hits a clothesline and and goes for a pin on Juvi. Right after Juvi kicks out, something is clearly wrong. He lays there on his stomach struggling to get up while Juvi recovers and plays to the crowd to stall. Eventually, while he’s still on his hands and knees clearly having an issue, Juvi decides it’s a good idea to KICK HIM IN THE SHOULDER/ CHEST area and he immediately stops moving. Juvi then spend like a full minute trying to turn him onto his back to pin him before he finally does. Then the ref stalls for a few seconds after the two count before counting the three.

Then eventually they call out help for him. Just terribly handled situation by the ref and especially Juvi. Why would you think kicking the man in the chest area is a good idea at that point?

Juvi and Rey should form a tag team called "The In Ring Killers"

Vids up on youtube, really strange how it played out, he lays face down for ages but is conscious, then after the kick seems to just go totally limp and that's how he stays.

I saw the headline yesterday, now I'm really regretting my decision to open the thread as I didn't actually read any of the articles.

One of the most fucked wrestling deaths I've read about in a long time. RIP.

The ref, his opponent, the promoter and the promotion should all be ashamed and embarrassed of their horrendous mishandling of the situation.

Ref and promotion deserves a ton of blame since its on both of them to make sure the wrestlers well-beings are taken care and neither did their job for Silver King.

For the ref to do basically nothing for several minutes meant he had zero situational awareness. The promotion being that stingy for spending money on a ringside doctor or ambulance meant they were playing with fire for this show.

For all of WWE's faults, they've been getting better over the years when it comes to responding to health scares and injuries on the spot.

That was horrible. Utterly horrible. They killed that man.

Stan Hansen wouldn't even have noticed. He'd still be leading the corpse through the match.

I mean... I didn’t wanna say it. But Dave Meltzer flat out said it.

The premises’ license also makes it clear that certain staff members must be trained in first aid.

According to the Associated Press, the London Ambulance Service arrived five minutes after they were called but Silver King was pronounced dead at the scene.

That just makes Lucha Libre World look even worse since they had the option to hire an in-house doctor that might have been cheaper than having to hire one from the outside but still skimped out on paying for one.

What a shitshow. If you can't afford to run a show, don't run a show.

Too bad JR wasn't around to say Good God Almighty he killed him.

Why would he buy cheap panties since he can’t take a joke? Are you saying that makes him a woman because only women can’t take jokes?

Fair point.
