Rate the Game: Week 87
Welcome, one and all. Let's get ready to say good-bye to November as we close out the month with this latest edition of Rate the Game. The weather may be getting cooler but these games are hot...sometimes. Take last week's Super Smash Bros. for instance. Was it hot shit amongst the good people of TPWW? Well the week is up and the votes have been cast so let's see where this bad boy ends up on the list....

Ghosts n' Goblins (2.14)</option> </select> Well with all of the votes tallied up and scored we make the number 25 spot an even bigger clusterfuck than it already was. Super Smash Bros. joins the orgy we got going on there to create an eight-way tie with a 4.0 average. Will there be another game that will end up in that crowded spot? Could this week's game rise above that mosh pit and claim residency in the elite top ten? Or will it give Ghosts n' Goblins some company at the bottom? Let's go to the bowl! <iframe src="https://giphy.com/embed/azPEian3hU6jrGwfZ9" width="480" height="269" frameBorder="0" class="giphy-embed" allowFullScreen></iframe><p><a href="https://giphy.com/gifs/azPEian3hU6jrGwfZ9">via GIPHY</a></p> We take another trip to the past with that '90s arcade staple, the beat-'em-up genre. Almost every company and their mothers took a stab at the idea of walking the crime-ridden streets and clobbering every thug you meet into paste but this is Capcom's take on the matter: Final Fight! Where shall it end up on our illustrious leaderboard? Let's dive in and rate this sucker and look forward to what December has in store for us. Until next week! |
Cot dayum this machine was in every arcade I can remember growing up. LOVED IT!
The Guy edition was cool too. Never beat this, not enough quarters. I remember getting to the wrestling boss though, that dude was really tough. 4/5 because of coin-op shenanigans, but otherwise this is the defacto beat em up for me. |
Axl and Slash are a couple studs b
Never played it.
And the streak of games Lock Jaw has played ends at 1.
I might have played it can you show me an image of it or something?

Ahh I remember I played a rom of this before, didn't think it was anything special but it was enjoyable.
When some of these characters started popping up in the Street Fighter Alpha series that blew my mind.
Haven't played it.
The only thing I remember from this series is Mike Haggar.
Besides that, never played it. |
Remember the days when a wrestler going into politics was an idea so ludicrous it could only be plausible in a video game?
Also, Haggar showing up in that one Capcom wrestling game on Super Nintendo was pretty cool.

Saturday Night Slam Masters!!!!!
I want a modern version of this game SOOOOOOOOO BAD <iframe width="1206" height="678" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/d9StvsSD8Ew" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I remember LOVING it because the wrestlers had entrances and music and everything. Very fun game.
7/5 in Rate the Game |
BTW - Grater 100% = Vader. Had a Mastodon mask and everything.

Falls under parody law I'd guess.
Oh, I'm not imagining he'd win. It's just great thinking back on how hysterical Vince can be when it comes to that kind of thing. Remember that stupid wrestling dog movie that was supposed to be called "RusselMania"?
Also, there's something to be said for the sprites of this game and other Capcom titles of that era. The way they were able to make them stand out and detailed to the way other games looked was top notch. A Capcom game was easy to recognize just by the style.
Might need to expand to 10 choices... too many 4s
I'll probably adjust the list so that the ties don't take up one whole line. I'm sure that's a bitch for some people's screens.
Also, I still needed to vote. :o
This was probably a fixture in virtually every arcade I ever visited. I once again have to credit my local Dairy Queen for having it as one its rotating machines. It was another quarter muncher that seemed harder than most of the other titles in the genre at the time. I don't think I ever saw past the second level until years later. It's an OK romp in my book. It's got some pretty good sprites, a soundtrack that doesn't quit, and whipping out special moves was always a bonus. I don't have that much of an attachment to it like, say, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles so there's that working against it.
This is another case of the original being a good start and the sequels improving exponentially.
Good series, but I always preferred streets of rage. |
Out of 5 is wild.
