So, I'm thinking some sort of Maze Runner clone. A bunch of people trapped in the bottom of a wall with falling pieces. If they don't make lines they are crushed to death.

7 Surprising Things You Never Knew About The 'Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers'

Quote:

Here are seven surprising things you never knew about (what should have been) your favorite show.

Warning: Some of these are huge bummers.

Amy Jo Johnson Is A Record Setter

Starting off with a positive fact, everyone's favorite Pink Ranger Amy Jo Johnson has the distinction of being the longest-serving female Power Ranger, appearing in 137 episodes before she left the series.

People Really, Really Loved The Green Ranger

Jason David Frank was everyone's favorite, the Green Ranger (and later, the White Ranger). However, he wasn't supposed to stay on the show for very long. Frank's arc on the series was only supposed to last a handful of episodes, but fans demanded he be kept on. Frank ended up staying with the Power Rangers franchise for years, and ended up appearing in 217 episodes during different iterations of the show.

The Secret Of The Yellow Ranger

Did you ever notice how there were two female Power Rangers, but only one of them had a skirt? That's because the American show used Japanese Power Rangers footage for the fight scenes, and in the original show, the Yellow Ranger was a man. That's why the Pink Ranger's outfit has a skirt, and the Yellow Ranger's doesn't.

A Star Was Born

Bryan Cranston, best known for his award-winning turn as Walter White on Breaking Bad, actually worked for Saban Entertainment, and provided voices for a number of the monsters on the show. The Blue Ranger, Billy Cranston, is named after the star.

The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Might Not Have Been LGBT Friendly

Actor David Yost played the Blue Ranger for hundreds of episodes, until one day he just walked off the set, never to return. The reason? According to Yost, who came out as gay a few years later, it was because the producers and director of MMPR allegedly hurled homophobic slurs at him all the time, until he just got so fed up with being harassed he quit. The producers have since responded to Yost's claims, saying the real reason was because the show didn't pay Yost what he asked for, and that it was Yost who refused to get along with the rest of the crew.

A Shocking Number Of Cast Members Have Died

MMPR might be cursed. Not only are a number of the show's performers dead, a lot of them died young - starting with Thuy Trang who played Trini Kwan, The Yellow Ranger. Trang tragically died in 2001 at the age of 27 when the car she was riding in with two of her friends lost control and drove into a cliff face before flipping multiple times. Trang's friends both survived, but she died from her injuries.

Bob Manahan, better known as the voice of Zordon in season 2, died in 2000 at the age of 48 when he suffered an heart aneurysm.

Also deceased: Erik Frank (Jason David Frank's brother who also played his character's brother on the show) died at 29 from "an unspecified illness."

Also: Eight others, including Machiko Soga, who played Rita Repulsa. Wow, this entry was sad.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Is Censored In Malaysia

Why on earth would a fun kids show about bloodless monster fighting get banned anywhere? If you guessed, "Because it promotes violence," or, "It encouraged children to build giant robots," both of those are wrong.

It's because the Malaysian government thought it encouraged the use of hardcore drugs. Does that not make sense? Well, think about the title. Mighty MORPHIN' Power Rangers. Morphin' sounds like Morphine, which will get kids addicted to morphine, according to the Malaysian government.

The show's title was edited down to just Mighty Power Rangers, and the word was bleeped out when the Rangers said, "It's morphin' time!"

According to trade outlet Variety, Constantin Film—the German production house that’s been responsible for twelve years (so far) of Resident Evil cinematic plague being unleashed upon the world—is looking to expand their live-action take on Capcom’s series to serialized television once its film run comes to an end.
Would be based on the film's version of the RE universe and not the gaming series for main inspiration. Won't arrive until after the final film so late 2016 or 2017 as its earliest date possible.

Warner Bros. has apparently tapped Shawn Levy, the director of Night at the Museum -- he's currently in talks to join the project. Oh, and Night at the Museum 2, and the upcoming Night at the Museum 3. And he directed The Internship, which I watched on a plane once and somehow made the flight worse.

In addition to the previously announced Jesse Metcalfe, Meghan Ory, Virginia Madsen, and Dennis Haysbert, Aleks Paunovic, Harley Morenstein, and Keegan Connor Tracey will join the Dead Rising film project.

Oh, and Rob Riggle was cast as Frank West. Love him or hate him, I can definitely see a little Frank West in Riggle -- especially considering the fact that he was on The Daily Show and is a retired marine. Perfect "I covered wars" and action movie potential.

The movie is called Dead Rising: Watchtower, and will be released straight to video, so don't expect a masterpiece however.

New live-action Mortal Kombat series is currently in the works and meant to tie into next year's Mortal Kombat X game.

Quote:

A live-action digital series is being created "in association" with Mortal Kombat X, Warner Bros. announced today.

Blue Ribbon Content, Warner Bros.' new division focusing on live-action and animated series for digital platforms, will produce the series. Few details are available about the project, which will "feature some of the franchise's most iconic characters as well as a new generation of fighters."

The new series will join the likes of live-action projects such as Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Legacy, which debuted in 2011, explores the characters of the original game.

Like Garfield, [Jim] Davis (Garfield creator) is a fan of lasagne. "Yeah, I love lasagne. I thought it would be funny to have a cat who likes lasagne but as it turns out, I hear from people all the time that their cats love lasagne." And he confessed that even though Jon loves Odie, too, Garfield is his favorite "because of the depth of their relationship. He confides in Garfield so much. and I think Jon may have a little masochistic problem. He enjoys the abuse that Garfield heaps up."

I have always wondered why Garfield hates Mondays when every day is pretty much the same for him, but Davis had the answer. "Garfield does not have a job, Garfield does not go to school and every day is the same. Nevertheless every Monday is just a reminder that his life is the same old, same old cycling again and for some reason even though his life is pretty much the same every day on Mondays specifically, awful things tend to happen to him physically."
And there ya go.

Sony rumored to be considering dropping their majority control over the Spider-Man license in the near future. The issue at the basis seems to be the main branch (Sony of Japan) being furious recently with their movie division (Sony Pictures) in regards to leaks and data breaches.

If true, Marvel would regain majority control over the Spider-Man series while Fox Studios would be the only outside company left with any majority control over certain Marvel properties (X-Men and Fantastic Four series). The way both companies had deals done meant that as long as a film was made every so often, their majority control status would never end unless it was willingly given up.

Quote:

From a source familiar with the matter, I can report that the deal Sony finally rejected was NOT a Marvel trilogy of movies that Sony would have control over. Instead, it was a co-production deal where Marvel and Sony would split future Spider-Man film costs 60/40 (Marvel paying the larger part) while MARVEL retained control of the Spider-Man creative property with the potential to have him cross-over into Marvel’s Phase films, like an appearance in Captain America: Civil War ...

Now, what initially looked like a retaliation attack for The Interview from North Korea might drastically alter what happens to Spider-Man. All the players on the Sony side are now in hot water regarding their very public leaking of films and data at the hands of hackers. Sony’s parent company in Japan are apparently very angry at how this is all playing out. I’ve heard that the atmosphere is that anyone could end up getting fired over this if it begins to cause serious financial damage ...

What I’m hearing from my little birds is that Sony, the parent company, views Sony Pictures’s handling of the Spider-Man property as disappointing. Sony wants to be all about “quality” films (actual one-word quote, not air quotes), and the Amazing Spider-Man movies have not been that, nor have the rumors of future films in the franchise. Sony Japan thinks the Marvel deal for Spider-Man is still on the table and they want to renegotiate as a return to quality, the 60/40 split is can be negotiated and Sony Entertainment’s October hard-line stance of wanting creative control is now mostly moot in the eyes of the higher-ups.

Does anyone know why exactly do networks air certain shows out of order? If the people who make the show make the episodes in a certain order then why mess with that?

Kalyx triaD 12-11-2014 07:00 PM

Once a show gets into syndication the network can pick episodes out of a hat.

Jura 12-11-2014 07:46 PM

That doesn't tell me the reasoning behind it though. Constantine, Almost Human, etc were out of order. Imagine if they aired Breaking Bad episodes out of order. Once the executives lose faith in a show do they just say fuck it?

Pretty much. They say "Hey this episode seems better, let's play it now so anyone new watching it likes it"

Oh you mean when the show is new.

There's a lot of reasons, but if the show is in a serial format it's pretty much because somebody is being an idiot.

Or they see better things about a certain episode and try to show it off as a showcase of what the series is going to be.

Fox did that with Firefly. They showed "The Train Job" (Shows 2nd episode) first over the pilot episode. The episode was more action because it featured a train chase and stagecoach thievery. It was a perfect example of what the show was going to be Sci/Fi-Western-Action-Drama-Comedy.

The Pilot didn't even air until December.

Ultimatley it was a mistake even though it probably was done with good intentions. Firefly's pilot was essential.

According to Variety, Sega is in the process of finding studios willing to make films and tv shows based on several of their games.

Quote:

Variety reports that the long-time publisher/developer has hired Evan Cholfin, from Stories International, to adapt Sega’s gaming IPs into movies and TV Shows amongst other mediums.

Sega’s historic catalog of iconic franchises, which spans roughly 30 years, leaves Cholfin and Sega a plethora of content to choose from. Sony cancelled the theatrical release of The Interview after constant warnings by North Korean hackers and a majority of theaters pulling out due to safety concerns. Won't even bother with skipping to a DVD/VoD release either.

Besides the threats of "9/11"-like attacks, the hackers were also planning on releasing the bulk of data they still have out in the public had the film been released.

Emperor Smeat 12-20-2014 02:58 AM

To be a bit fair, North Korea complained a lot when games involved making them look bad. Just didn't go as far as what they did to Sony in retaliation and being very specific with their threats back then.

That and the insurance on the film made it easier to get back most of the money already spent for it.

Fignuts 12-20-2014 03:05 AM

If I've learned anything from this, it's that trying to get your way by threatening violence apparently works great.

Sony and Marvel agreed to a new deal regarding the Spiderman series. Sony gave up some of its iron tight control over the series and is allowing Spiderman to appear in other Marvel films while Marvel will provide a lot more support for developing future Spiderman films.

(Culver City, California, and Burbank, California February 09, 2015) – Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.

In terms of Marvel's film phases, several films got their release date delayed to make room for Spiderman's new status in the plan.

As a result of the new deal, Thor: Ragnarok will now arrive nearly four months later than planned, moving to November 3, 2017 (from July 28). Black Panther, which previously held that spot, gets delayed eight months, going from that original November 3 date to July 6, 2018. That, in turn, bumps Captain Marvel to November 2, 2018 and moves Inhumans all the way to July 12, 2019. The two-part Avengers: Infinity War, meanwhile, remains set for release May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019.

Besides some delayed films, the aftermath of this new deal also saw Andrew Garfield being dropped in favor of someone new for Spiderman's actor.
Quote:

As part of the revamp, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film. The companies are not revealing details but that movie is likely to be Captain America: Civil War; the character was a major player in the comics storyline. Andrew Garfield is not expected to reprise the character.

I'm guessing the people who don't like it are fans of the game but if it's good, mindless action then I don't see the problem.

Kalyx triaD 02-12-2015 03:11 PM

Not that I usually side with purists when it comes to adaptations but I must beg the question; wouldn't it be simpler to just make a good mindless fun action movie? To adapt a game is, to some degree, have it based on the game.

Not saying this is that far removed, looks better than the last try, just saying that over the years I've begun to sympathize with the more level headed criticism.

alvarado52 02-12-2015 04:28 PM

Well truthfully....was there really much of a story to follow in the games?

Sixx 02-12-2015 07:07 PM

I believe the whole series took narrative fairly seriously actually.

Marion Cotillard is on board with Michael Fassbender in the Assassins' Creed movie.

If whoever is penning the script does a great job, then I have high hopes for this movie right now.

Being written by Gary Whitta with Gareth Edwards directing it.

Probably going to get slaughtered in the box office since its showing up a week before the new Star Wars film.

Tazz Dan 02-22-2015 07:50 PM

Two and a Half Men. Nobody is talking about the finale. Thoughts people?

Lock Jaw 02-22-2015 07:52 PM

Made a comment in the casual forum about it.... Never really watched the show or got into it, but I read what the final scene was and it just seems like the most terrible and petty thing ever.

Tazz Dan 02-24-2015 03:00 AM

Pretty much, the whole episode was just them taking shots at Charlie Sheen, although I didn't think it was meant in an attacking manner, it came across as more of a tribute to his character to me. But yeah, it was far from good. On the bright-side though, it continued the trend of disappointing show finale's recently :y:

Jura 02-24-2015 12:24 PM

Yeah it seems like when shows end they don't put as much effort into wrapping it up. Maybe it's because they were cliffhanger endings but I liked the Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles and Angel finales.

I heard they offered Charlie Sheen to show up at the end but he didn't want to do it the way they wanted and that was that.

Droford 02-26-2015 12:33 AM

The Ferris Buller episode of the Goldbergs was pretty hilarious. Charlie Sheen reprising his role in the police station was funny.
