Rate the Game: Week 32

Uh, yeah, so after a slight delay of a few weeks, we're back on schedule. So for those who don't remember, this is where I pull a name of a video game at random from my custom CONTAINER OF DOOM and then ask you to rate said game via the poll. I will calculate the average after the poll closes and then update the list. There are only 18 games left and I hope to get through them to finally wrap this up. Here are the standings so far:

1. Super Mario Bros. 3 (4.7)
2. Donkey Kong Country (4.44)
3. Super Mario Bros. (4.41)
4. Metal Gear Solid (4.33)
5. Super Street Fighter 2 (4.15)
6. Sonic the Hedgehog (4.14)
7. Super Mario 64 (4.07)
8. (TIE) Grand Theft Auto 3 (4.06), The Legend of Zelda (4.06)
10. (TIE) NBA Jam (4.0), Super Mario Kart (4.0)
12. Final Fantasy 7 (3.94)
13. Mega Man (3.89)
14. Devil May Cry (3.8)
15. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (3.7)
16. Mortal Kombat 2 (3.67)
17. Diablo (3.66)
18. StarFox (3.61)
19. (TIE) Doom (3.6), Mortal Kombat (3.6)
21. Resident Evil (3.58)
22. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (3.39)
23. Resident Evil: Nemesis (3.38)
24. Quake (3.2)
25. (TIE) Time Crisis (3.0), Tekken (3.0)
27. (TIE) Silent Hill (2.6), The Sims (2.6)
29. (TIE) Tomb Raider (2.5), Halo (2.5)
31. Gran Turismo (2.3)

So let's get down to brass tacks. Here is the next game to rate. It's.....

...Killer Instinct. The original one, that is, not the remake on the Xbox One. Be aware that this is from the same pool of games as when I first started all of this so don't expect any games from any time after, like, 2005. So get to it and vote and discuss and what not.

KI was amazing. I remember (for me anyway) is was the first game with such HUGE combos. I bought a guide to learn the moves at home, and would go to the local arcade to try it out. Never did well in the arcade.

Had time to learn on SNES and played it TONS. Even had Killer Cuts, lol. I remember Eyedol being cheap AF sometimes, and that seemed like the biggest flaw for me.

The longer combos were hard to learn, but NOT impossible, which I think was key to enjoyment. Love me some KI.

Jago wins. ULTTTTTRRRRRAAAAAAAA.

I only played this a teeny tiny bit at a friend's house on his SNES. Was the skeleton guy and I pulled off some stage fatality where I pushed someone off a ledge.

So yeah. Just a 1 for me.

if this was the n64 version id go higher but the super version is just a 3 from me

3.

Very fun fighter from the Mortal Kombat influenced branch of fighting games from that era.

Remember Cinder being sort of a cheat character to use because a move or two of his could be spammed for devastating results. Also the game suffers from the same problem as MK where the AI difficulty spikes up way too fast with the last couple fights in arcade mode.

Killer Cuts was boss. Video game soundtracks for sale should have really been a much bigger deal back then considering how some of the most memorable music came from that era. I can't speak for anyone else but out of the modern era of gaming, the Halo series is the only one off the top of my head where I can instantly recognize a track.

define modern era

I gave it a 3 btw. It was almost a 4. I enjoyed the hell out of the game but it was never MK or SF. Not even close.

Gave it a 4. Enjoyed it. But I don't know if it would hold up very well now.

For me, I count the modern era as this millennium, but like I said, I can't speak for everyone.

Killer Instinct came out in the 90's.

Also, it's a 2 for me. Unique look and all, but honestly it's pretty rough. Ki 2/Gold would probably get a 3. They polished things up a bit, but it still couldn't hang with the big dogs.

The KI reboot on the other hand is a straight up 5. One of the best fighters of this generation.
