My girlfriend is losing her fucking mind over this. She wouldn't stop shaking me. I need a counselor.

lol

Black Widow 06-24-2020 07:46 PM

That's cool and all but doubt they found someone with as cool of a voice than the previous host.

Sepholio 06-24-2020 08:31 PM

Im super down for this.

Frank Drebin 07-01-2020 08:42 PM

Watched the first episode. Straight fire.

Porter knows something. Someone drag him out in the streets and beat an answer out of that guy.

drave 07-02-2020 07:55 AM

Meh, I couldn't get past the 1st episode. Doesn't feel the same and felt more like that "Disappeared" show or some shit from ID Channel.

Needs a host, weird stories mixed in there man. Single episodes dedicated to an entire story just seems bleh.

Forensic Files II had a great revival. 30 min episodes, right to the point.

It’s basically just another murder mystery show that’s using the Unsolved Mysteries name and music to pull in the nostalgia crowd. Those are the only links it has to the original show.

I watched the second episode though and... holy fuck, is that husband creepy.

Frank Drebin 07-02-2020 01:19 PM

Yeah you're both right but I still enjoyed the episode. I dunno. They definitely could have hit on the creepier part of the friend and company not talking to police.

Whomever tries to fill Robert Stack's shoes would be a disappointment. Would either not be serious/creepy about it or would be "ironically" creepy, over do it and ruin the experience. I can't see a middle ground where someone gives it legitimacy without being over the top. Bill Kurtis might be a good choice now that I think about it.

Just watched the first episode, very good...

found out some more info about the case on reddit:

That ex-husband in episode 2....

SPOILER: show

How the fuck was it overlooked the reason he changed the locks the day after Patrice went missing might have been because either he had her in the house or had evidence that would have made him guilty in the house.

He obviously knew she wasn't coming back because if he thought she was he wouldn't have kicked her son out ASAP.

The creepy sociopath is guilty as fuck.

I watched the first episode of this new series... Yes it looks like they're just branding it Unsolved Mysteries while not having the same aura as the original.

Overall I think the spooky narration of Robert Stack made the original, sadly this has not ever been captured in anything following. The new UM is basically a singular story played out over the course of the episode - The original at least had a variety through the 40/60 minutes that it was on.

Nothing beats the paranormal versions though, if they get around to doing any of them it may pique my interest but so far I am not feeling it (As an Unsolved Mysteries title)

I remember watching this all the time with mom and grandma along with America's Most Wanted.

Also, I strangely remember one episode (at least I think it was Unsolved Mysteries - could have been some other also-ran that piggybacked off of this and AMW) that had a guy who was in a coma, clamed he had vivid "dreams" of Native Americans pretty much the whole time he was in the coma, then woke up and started impulsively carving detailed wood sculptures of Native Americans on some Close Encounters/Devil's Tower shit without having any sort of interest or history in neither art or the old west.

That would fix most of it. I can watch ID channel for the type of shit they are covering.

I think this is why the show will never live up to what WAS even if in some aspects it could be better. Stack was a perfect fit and that can never be duplicated.

Man I was always the hugest unsolved mysteries mark. Prob seen every episode of the old series.

This just ain't it. Very disappointing.

The Black Hope Curse one was the one that always stuck with me, freaked me the fuck out as a kid.

Robert mentions one of the segments being 2001, but I am sure this episode was much earlier (At least Black Hope) considering the interview was conducted in the early 90's.

There is no point without his amazing voice narrating it all.
