It doesn't sound like Rockstar needs to rush it with the next mainline GTA game, either, as GTA V's money-making multiplayer mode GTA Online continues to be incredibly popular.
We have reached out to Rockstar for comment on the source's claims and will update this post with anything we hear back.
What are some wishes for this next GTA game? More people in online play? Connected maps for GTA online? Better Character and house customization?

Jet packs!

Loved 5 but it didn't keep me coming back after story was over, wasn't massively into the multiplayer due to a number of reasons.

Much much rather a new Red Dead or city expansions to GTAV (Vice City, Liberty City, San Fran, Vegas).

GTAV: Vice city would be a cool expansion. I think they should go to a city they haven't been before though, like Detroit, Dallas, or even Toronto would be cool.

Yeah totally missed the jetpack in 5 and 4, dunno why its not there.

Running out of places in the States to inspiration from. If I had to throw some cities out there, maybe go Seattle or Boston.

Really can't do California, New York City, or Miami anymore. Now you're just running out of ideas.

Yeah, I was kinda upset at first @ no Las Venturas, especially since it's "spiritual predecessor", San Andreas, featured C.J. and Co. pulling off a heist of their own at the Caligula's Casino.

Dunno, it just seemed like it would've been such a perfect fit.

I think Chicago and Detroit both have MORE than seedy enough histories to be leading candidates. And we KNOW LC is ruled out because of some promotional artwork stating "Liberty City, it's OVER" or something. Boston could be good though. I also thought if they really wanted a great place to target, why not set the next game in D.C.?

I also wouldn't totally be against it if the rumors of a female protag turn out to be true as the only ones we've been able to play as are created characters in GTAO. Would be nice to see a female GTA character who's not just another piece of meat promising to be amorous to a male protag who rescues her or gets her out of trouble and also who's not another hooker a male protag honks at and pays for sex and possibly a small boost to health.

One of the biggest rumors I've been hearing for the map is a the whole United States. Not sure how they'd do it but if so that would be pretty cool.

I assume they will have an Uber-like mode. Any four-door car will be able to pick up fares and make money.

I don't care for online mode, give me a bigger map (one giant city or split between 2 doesn't matter), tons of cool missions and lots of extra activities and I'm happy.

Since GTA 4 rebooted the continuity we haven't officially had a game set in Vice City (Miami) in the current continuity. My money is on them doing that for the next game honestly. Gotta agree with Juan that a game set in Japan could be cool as hell though. I also really hope the female protagonist rumors are true. A Vice City game could actually fit that well too. Some drug baroness who gets back-stabbed by a trusted underling or something could be really cool.

I have indeed. Only game in the entire series I've 100% completed. Oddly enough, the achievement ("Key to the City") unlocked after I finished a game of "QUB <SUP>3 </SUP>D".

DC would be fun, we could see the protagonist be a hitman for a particular party. Would be kind of cool.

Minority opinion: since the switch to multiplayer being the primary focus I'm done with GTA. LOVED the franchise up until 5. far too short of a campaign, not even remotely enough side quests. The content just wasnt there. No interest in multiplayer.


It's not a single players world anymore though.

I'm sorta with you there. While MP can be fun, it seems you def need a "crew" to really enjoy it. Having kids kinda prevents me from being able to do stuff like that, always having to stop at a moment's notice, etc. Heists sounds/looks awesome, I just don't have the resources :(

I'm thinking the next logical step is having the game take place in 2 separate cities.....They keep the multiplayer and have you split time in both cities, only to entangle the missions and players later on down the line in both cities.... and you can easily double the pigeons/spray paint tags/ stunt jumps/random tasks to do as you have twice the territory to put them in....

Considering the criticism of 5 for it's shorter campaign, and the fact that fans are still demanding single playet dlc, I doubt they are going to minimalize the single player content even further. With a game created on the new hardware, I see no reason why a company as talented as Rockstar can't expand on both sides of the game enough to appease fans as opposed to cutting one down content on one.

The Singleplayer content is important enough to the fanbase where I could see a stand alone GTAO before the sp content in a numbered title gets skimped on even more.

Think something like "The Division" or something of the sort. Allow for player customization like Saints Row but still have the same "main story". That would be great for replayability/longevity in the SP realm.

One of the few things that irks me in V is switching between the protags and the one I switch to isn't wearing their "default" outfit I like to have them wear. Example: For Trevor, I have his "default" as Blarney's baseball cap, aviator sunglasses, shaggy beard, camo hunting jacket/vest, camo cargo pants and boots. Doesn't look right when I switch to him from Michael or Franklin to see him out and around in a t-shirt and shorts.

Basically I just try and work within the "gimmicks" of the 3 individually when determining what kind of "default" outfit/look I want them to have. It's a minor thing, but when I see any deviation whatsoever it just really pisses me off.

This is dumb. Sales of the game made 6 times more money than the online microtransactions. They stand to lose more money alienating the single players coming for the base GTA experience.
