What's your favourite wrestling move?

I could watch Arn Anderson and Ron Simmons do spinebuster's all day long. Arn's was pure finesse, absolutely beautiful in terms of style and impact. Ron Simmons' spine buster is one of the most powerful and cool moves ever used to show strength in a dominant wrestler.

The Rock has probably the worst spine buster in the history of wrestling and I remember getting pissed off that a man his size and athleticism couldn't perform it nearly as well.
I think maybe it's a centre of gravity thing.

I'm also partial to a well executed powerslam. If anyone wants to see the best powerslam in the world look out for Kaientai in Over The Edge 1998, Dick Togo snaps off a beast of a slam on Taka.

Lariat

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 12:08 PM

Was it only Stan Hansen that called it the lariat?

Destor 11-21-2019 12:12 PM

Nah a lariat has forward momentum. A clothesline is just a guy putting his arm out. When you see a lariat done right you know it.

Ones violent and the other is just there.

Simple Fan 11-21-2019 12:17 PM

Powerbomb. Hate when someone kicks out of one. It's just stupid.

That rings a bell. So would a lariat be the thrower's momentum whereas a clothesline would be the recipient's momentum?

Like I can throw a clothesline just by sticking my arm out and letting the gut run into it but if I want to lariat the guy I have to run at him and throw my arm forward?

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 12:27 PM

I suppose I could look this up...

Yes, absolutely. We know that powerbombs fuck people up in MMA to the point where they are KO'd.

Destor 11-21-2019 12:32 PM

You dont have to run but yeah. The lariat is a clubbing strike..the arm is swinging at you. The clothesline youre arm is stretched out. Even a short clotheline vs a short arm lariat. Youre mostly stationary in both. You pull him into your outstretched arm for a clothesline. In a short arm lariat you pull him in and at the same time swing through him.

Theres a difference in violence. But its not about the feet so much. Benoit had the best clotheline ever but he charged at you. It wasnt a larait. The arm didnt swing. Its a subtle difference but once you know it you cant unsee it.

Simple Fan 11-21-2019 12:33 PM

Big fan of spinebusters to. Got to see an Arn one at All Out, was great.

Simple Fan 11-21-2019 12:40 PM

Alabama Slam also because every time Hardcore Holly hit it they yelled Alabama Slam.

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 12:47 PM

I fucking loved the Alabama Slam.
Feels like they renamed it at some point and I didn't like it.

Did Bob Holly innovate that move? He got some force on it which seems like a hard thing to do.

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 12:49 PM

Bob Holly has to be a top 20 wrestler for me. I really did like him a lot growing up. Only after that Feud with Al Snow though, I remember thinking it was cool a guy would start matches with weapons.

Simple Fan 11-21-2019 12:50 PM

On AEW a few weeks ago Excalibur called it a wheelbarrow slam or something. JR had no idea what he was talking about.

Sixx 11-21-2019 12:50 PM

Piledriver.

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 12:52 PM

I like any piledrivers done with a bounce.

Orndorff's was pretty perfect.

Jordan 11-21-2019 12:54 PM

I like powerbombs. Also I like Darby Allin being double arm ddt'ed from the middle rope by Jon Moxley.

True.

But Taker's Tombstone is kinda lame.

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 01:14 PM

I meant the classic piledrivers.
Of all piledrivers my very favourite are the bouncing classics and Foley's "pull their trunks" piledriver because they look legit. Foley's just seems right to me though, even if it's not "devastating".
I might catch massive flack for this but I honestly preferred Taker using The Last Ride to his Tombstone. I prefer tombstone piledrivers when lighter wrestlers use them. It's so much better when done quickly.

I think Taz was doing it in ECW before. It was called the Concrete Crunch/Crash or something like that

xrodmuc316 11-21-2019 02:16 PM

The Eclipse, it is a thing of beauty.

Emperor Smeat 11-21-2019 03:44 PM

Clothesline and lariat.

Can get some pretty great brutal looking hits when done perfectly especially with the recent trend of guys adding a little flip after getting hit by one.

Helmsphere 11-21-2019 03:50 PM

The 450 splash. Just some thing about it i love.

Petey Williams' execution of the Canadian Destroyer

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 08:19 PM

Yeah but what's a regular move you really like?

Simple Fan 11-21-2019 08:27 PM

To be fair the Canadian Destroyer has become a regular move these days.

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 08:34 PM

It's a ridiculous move that I have probably never seen before I started posting here.

I never saw it growing up anyway.

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 08:35 PM

This is why I listen to Gertner and Dale with the classic wrestling advice. It makes more sense.

Simple Fan 11-21-2019 08:38 PM

I liked it when Petey Williams started using it. It was his finish and hardly anyone kicked out of it. Now it's used multiple times in matches and I can't recall the last time it ended a match.

Silly as fuck, but looks cool.

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 08:44 PM

Superplexes should kill

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 08:44 PM

Yokozuna's Superkick should kill

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 08:45 PM

"Yokozuna's Superkick" is a good name for the phenomenon of moves used by wrestlers in their set that should be a match ender.

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 08:46 PM

Does anybody still use Ron Simmons "Dominator"?

That was fucking great too.

It's gonna be my stage name when I start my pop music career.

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 09:23 PM

The gig ender

screech 11-21-2019 09:23 PM

Big fan of the chokeslam

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 09:24 PM

I never understood the chokeslam.

It don't make no sense.
A choke trip would have been good.

Seanny One Ball 11-21-2019 09:25 PM

Like an inverted Russian Legsweep or something
