That was great.
|
Had to pick up my gf from work so I'm gonna watch it tomorrow.

I like John Stossel as a investigative journalist type person but he's really a huge asshole
|
This was one of my favorite epsiodes yet. I have a lot of respect for Dr. D. He's a bad mother fucker. Goddamn I want to see Dr. D in his prime vs New Jack.
|
Is Schultz still peddling his bullshit story about he and Mr.T
|
Hogan said that Dr. D slapped the piss outta Mr. T.
Dr. D maintains he was going over to see his friend Tanaka, next to him. I was kinda fucked up watching this, so names might not be right.... This was good shit. This dude does NOT give a fuck. I always recall seeing this clip, but knew nothing about the story around it. Loved it. Stossel is a huge fucking pussy. |
Greg Valentine said he watched the whole thing happen. Chief Jay basically told Greg "watch this" and as soon as Dr. D ran towards the ring he was tackled and hog tied by a bunch of cops
|

He was a badass bounty hunter too, ahead of DOG
|
In hindsight it's too bad he didn't beat him bloody considering what it cost him. Fuck Vince he told Dave to let him have it. I really wish Shultz would've been the WWF heel that epsiode intended. I wonder was he going to originally have the Piper role at WrestleMania?
|
He was barely above a jobber to the stars by the end of 84
Schultz was more or less done being a pushed guy when they replaced Schultz with Bob Orton in Piper's crew in mid 84 |
He should have slammed Andre at Pontiac
|
How much soda pop have you drunk, Jordan?

The Mr.T incident happened in California, not MSG.
|
Herb Abrams next week will be the most entertaining episode they've done.
|
This kind of stuff is why I'm so interested in this era and have been for years. There's so many crazy ass stories from that time.

Lol fuck I can't wait for that episode
|
The Dr D one has been pretty funny. Almost as funny as New Jack.
I was nearly in tears laughing when he slapped Stossel and Stossel said "Holy shit". That was well cut. Never noticed that Schultz never even pulled his hand back. BLAM! |
"My ears were ringing"
Yeah no shit John you complete gimp. |
Dr. D did an hour long interview with Cornette where he goes into a little detail on the Stossell incident and talks about his bounty hunting. Highly advised listen.
|
He slapped the shit out of him.
Hahahahaha |
John Stossel is a scumbag man. Right to the camera "It hurt until I got paid".
At least the Belzer guy named his house after Hulk Hogan. This guy is just a douchebag. |
We all know it's staged. But to go up to the guys who are putting the work and tell them "you're fake" or "it's fake" is fucking asking for trouble in that era.
|
I think I'd rather get choked out by Hogan than slapped twice by Dr D
|
I can understand why he would be pissed about a star coming in to the first-ever Mania, given how "closed" the industry was then, and the shit guys had to do to get over.
He was an amazing heel, that is how heels should STILL work. They should be assholes everywhere, all the time. |
Ahahahahaha they showed the Belzer clip

Oh man, nothing compares to seeing a skinny guy getting choked out by a mountain
|
Kuwaiti jail awaits
|
The funniest part about Hogan choking the other guy is how calm he was after saying if you laugh at me i will choke you out !!
|
The only thing missing in this episode is that they didn't went into the steroids trial at all. Maybe they will do an episode about it in season 3 !
|

Watching the slap episode. Fucking Stossel is smarmy bastard. Never felt bad for him. But he's called wrestling bullshit like 5x now. Fuck that guy.
|
Like this guy was actively looking to expose the business for no reason. It's not like he was saying he wanted to expose steroid use or sexual actually. His beef was it as predetermined and 3 out of every 10 bought it as real? Lmao
|
And after a slap, he ran away like a bitch.
The line of "Yeah, my pain went away...... after I got paid". After he claimed to not be able to be a father to his own newborn did it for me. "I can't be a dad because I don't have money for getting called on MY shit". |
The most interesting thing anyone learned from that episode is that there is an actual term for people who hold onto pain in order to attain financial compensation.
I had never heard of such a thing. |
Yeah, I wasn't in love with that episode. But I didn't dislike it either. I find that there isn't much in the way of anything new being revealed about this stuff. I mean, it's always fun to hear from the talking heads It really depends on the narrative direction taken. The Benoit episode was my favorite but not for anything that was revealed, but more for the perspective from Daniel and Nancy's sister.
|
Everyone on this forum would stand up to Dr. D and probably whoop his ass if put in the same position.
|
No, none of us would have said it.
Especially not to him... |
Yeah I'd try to buddy up to Dr. D most likely in hopes that I looked tough via association.
|
In no way would I sit there and tell a wrestler what he does is fake lol.
|
Wonder how he'd react to being called a sports entertainer not a professional wrestler
|
Are you bald because you split all of your hairs?
|
Finally watched the Schultz episode.
Lol oh Eddy Mansfield. The next truth he tells will be the first. Kind of a meh episode. I'd rate it the weakest of the season except for the Brawl for All one. |
Eddy Mansfield would later run independent shows with a lot of wrestlers from that era which is hilarious. A good payday trumps principles
|

He did it for the boys, member? |
Just finished watching the Shultz episode and it was pretty decent.
 at Vince and WWE sending John Stossel to a quack doctor as a way to get out of a lawsuit. The story between Mr. T and Shultz and Hogan pulling a similar stunt to a reporter were way more interesting than the slap story itself. |
Or even the fact that Hogan choking a guy out on TV and (possibly) giving him a concussion was "okay" and everyone laughed. But 2 lil slaps is not okay...

Does eddy mansfield not even have a wikipedia page?
|
Yeah but you have to go to the Abe Lincoln page and link through "See Also" to "List of unemancipated wrestlers"
|
I've never gone through the UWF tapes. This is really enjoyable. I started from epsiode one and am surprised. Really fun. Col Debeers lmao smh ...
|
Get used to every match between two name wrestlers ending in a dq.
Lol I've watched every episode. |
I think I saw a bunch of UWF on Amazon last year. I seem to remember a very excellent and funny Bret Hart promo.
I have no idea who he was facing. |
Quote:
|
It may be on Memphis actually.
There was a WWF invasion angle around 93 somewhere. Lots of amazing promos. |
UWF was definitely also on Amazon Prime though so I probably conflated the two.
|
I'm 4 episodes in and here are my thoughts...
In reading about UWF I always thought the roster sounded bloated (literally) and underwhelming. But with Bruno and the very enegetic Herb Abrams on commentary, plus Captain's Corner every episode... this shit is really fun. Steve Williams is great, Cactus is blooming, Patera is still pretty good, Orton is still good, Orndorff is still good ... Brain Blair is like a low rent Sting.. awesome. I enjoy the package they are selling. It's simple but it does remind me a lot of WWF Superstars in a good way too. Some of the promo's are really bad but it's like that 90's bad that is really entertaining. LOL as I type this a masked character named "THE VIKING" just a promo and said "I don't have to tell you how bad I am". HAHAHAA. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/i030d3FQt9Y" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

It's uncanny. He's like a low rent Sting but you know it's still good. |
Quote:
Well, like I just said it is clearly owned by Amazon. Plus the Network is dying a rapid death. |
Please stop comparing B Brian Blair to Sting.
Shit shirts and a good attitude was just the 90's as a whole. |

Take a wild fucking guess who was booking the UWF at the time. |

Omg I can't wait for this episode. And on my birthday!
Lol I've been building this episode up now for months. It had better not be a dud |
Happy Birthday Gertner, UWF's only PPV:

Lol you just reminded me of a great UWF story. At the 1994 Blackjack Brawl, Mando Guerrero fought Jack Armstrong for athe light heavyweight title. Mando was supposed to come out to Rico Suave by Gerrado, but someone made a mistake and played Taco Grande by Weird Al Yankovic which was a parody of the song. Mando was clearly not amused lol
Starts at 13:40 |
|
This episode was wild and I really enjoyed it.
Herb Abrams was quite the character. |
Getting ready to watch. V excited
|
Awesome episode. A couple great Herb stories that weren't mentioned.
Herb thought Wild Thing Steve Ray was sleeping with his wife. So Herb paid Dr. Death to shoot on his during a match. Starts towards the end of the match |
Bix found some documents with the Nevada State Athletic Comission for Blackjack Brawl including signed statements from wrestlers stating they were paid.
The statements were forged. Half the wrestlers real names were misspelled lol |
I've seen that Dr Death shoot before. Disgraceful.
|
Basically the video on how not to start a wrestling promotion. Filing in the back of my mind in case I win a bunch of money
|
died with coke and hookers with just boots on.
I am surprised he found hookers that would take checks |

Here is the infamous Herb Abrams v Col. Red angle. Pure coked up Herb insanity. |
Quote:
I think this was USWA actually. So many acronyms. |
I'm sure Mick Foley went on about Herb in Have A Nice Day because I remember him mentioning the boots before.
Good episode, I learned a lot. I definitely thought Herb came off as much more lovable than anyone else in DSOTR before now. |

If I was the DSOTR producer I'd tweet back any picture of Bixenspan.
Imagine being down spoken to by a guy that looks like that. |
The Road Warriors were very "gay porny" when they first started.

RE: Dr. D episode

I wonder if how things might have been different with the UWF had Herb Abrams didn't have his vices. Also, what would he (Abrams) have called the UWF had Bill Watts trademarked the letters.
|
They were dead in the water regardless. All these promotions that wanted to present wrestling "the way it used to be" all had a short shelf life (UWF, AWF etc..). SMW is probably the most successful and even that had a low ceiling.
|
I can't remember, did the episode bring up Herb getting mad at Meltzer writing negative shit about the UWF so he named a jobber after Meltzer
|
I don't remember them bringing it up but its hilarious
|
I've tried cocaine but I've never been insanely high on it.
I bet that's a hell of a feeling. Running about naked all greased up with Vaseline and coke. It has to be seen to be believed. |
David Bixenspan just wrote a really interesting story for Mel Magazine regarding a 1983 police report he discovered stating that Vince McMahon tried to talk Nancy Argentino out of filing a complaint against Snuka. Really fucking interesting.

"Never before seen footage"......wonder how many dipshits will think it's footage of the actual fall. |
Probably a lot of backstage stuff
|
Meltzer had a story in this week's Observer Newsletter from someone who worked for Herb Adams' UWF revealing how much of a mess the company was backstage.

That's amazing lol

If anyone is interested in learning more about Herb, Bix and Kris Zellner did a two part Between the Sheets episode on the history of Herb Abrams and the UWF.
It's very good https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts...b-SVtXJP6hFko/ |
