No thanks.
My ears are not keen for what my eyes have seen and my nose has imagined. |
If you've watched the LOD DVD that the WWE put out a while back then last nights episode was just a rehash of the DVD
|
Another Montreal
|
I really enjoyed the Road Warriors doc. I liked Animals honesty and hearing from Hawks brothers.
|
My thoughts on this doc:
**Fart Noise** Nah it was fine, but pretty by the numbers. |
It wasn't as in depth as I wanted it to be. It glazed over their whole career I felt. Road Warriors need a longer time slot for a doc.
|
I really enjoyed Paul Ellering and Hawk's brothers added a family element I didn't know about this big guy. I've been watching all the Darkside's with my gf, and this was one of her favorites. I think Brody was her favorite so far. She doesn't know anything beoynd the brief preface I'll give before the show starts.
One thing I didn't LOVE is how they acted like They went from WWF to split and Hawk in Japan back to WWF, when they had another WCW run as a team this time in blue. Which I hated. |
Yeah I rolled my eyes at them ignoring the WCW run. Also, they were given a chance for a year to make an impact in WWE in 1997. They just stank out the joint because they were WELL past their prime.
|
They didn't even mention their AWA run
|
They never mentioned the Titantron suicide angle which should have been properly discussed.
I thought going into it that Hawk's addiction & downslide had to be the main focus but they paid it no more than lip service as a reason for their decline as a team. Now that I think about it, it was a complete waste of an episode. |
Didn't like the Roadwarrior episode, mostly because it was the same ting WWE put out in like 2006 or whenever that DVD came out.
It was all the same guest even for the most part, Ellering, Smash, Droz. First time in 2 seasons it felt like a simple rehash. |

Oh shit I forgot to listen to that today
And there's no way that can be true. |
Didn't both side couldn't talk about any legal issues since the settlement ?? If she broke the agreement can wwe start to make money from Owen again ??

Then again WWE supposedly violated the terms several times before so the NDA probably isn't worth its paper anymore. |
It sounds like the breach of contract lawsuit is basically that WWE had two clauses in Owen's contract that lawsuits could only happen in CT and WWE could not be held responsible for injury or death so by starting a lawsuit of wrongful death in Missourri, Martha Hart was technically violating Owen's contract, twice.
Things got settled before this was ruled on, of course, but Vince IIRC did state he believes WWE would have won against Martha had things not settled. |
Never heard this before -- you can hear Owen hit the ring around 1:26

I think that commentator is dyslexic because he kept saying ewno instead of Owen.
|
Last episode of the season tomorrow which sucks.
|
Apparently Scott Norton was not happy at all with his appearance in the Road Warriors episode.
Something about how he was interviewed for over 3 hours and didn't like how he was portrayed based on the stuff used. Made it seem like he was harsh towards the duo when that wasn't the case during the actual interview. Also mentioned Hawk's brother messaging him before the interview about needing to be careful with what he says since the producers were not trustworthy when it came to their intentions for episodes. |
Owen should have just said no.
The narrative has always been Owen was uncomfortable but didn't want to say no again since he just refused to do an affair angle with Debra, and he didn't want to say no again... BUT, he wanted to leave when the Screwjob happened but WWE wouldn't let him out of his contract. So why was he worried about missing Vince/WWE off if he wasn't trying to keep his job there anyways? Also, it's not like he would have been refusing an angle, just an entrance stunt. It's not the same thing. Plus, he did the stunt prior to that day. Bet they won't bring that up on the upcoming episode. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2AHv3P0ya98" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Supposedly the real reasons was Vince threatened legal action against Owen if he quit and Bret warning him that WCW was a miserable place to work for and not worth the hassle.
Also unlike the others that left, Owen supposedly didn't feel he was that financially well off to risk legal issues or retire comfortably with his family. The accident itself pretty much was due to Vince shrugging off Owen's concerns he had with the harness during the show. |
WWE's lawyer releases a statement implying Martha didn't care why Owen died, yikes
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">This new quote from Jerry McDevitt/WWE on Martha Hart is really something to behold. <a href="https://t.co/qLrcuapZa6">pic.twitter.com/qLrcuapZa6</a></p>— jœlius cæsar (@tedwassonasong) <a href="https://twitter.com/tedwassonasong/status/1262637093639147520?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 19, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
Does he not realize the same criticisms about her trying to "fix the judicial selection process" is the exact same thing WWE constantly does whenever they get sued.
Its why WWE desperately tries to get all their cases heard in Connecticut regardless of the actual jurisdiction since the judges in their area are more favorable to WWE and corporate interests. |
What made them think that was going to make things better? No good can come from that
|
In the middle of the episode. Vince comesoff like Trump with how defensive he gets and his quickness to get and flip the tables and be the victim.
Also, this shit is obscenely sad. Poor Owen. |
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Fucking hell <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/DarkSideOfTheRing?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#DarkSideOfTheRing</a> <a href="https://t.co/m2pZmeMsRR">pic.twitter.com/m2pZmeMsRR</a></p>— Italo Santana (@BulletClubIta) <a href="https://twitter.com/BulletClubIta/status/1262934146520932352?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 20, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Yeah that whole episode once the accident happens is really hard too watch. Didn't think I'd see Cornette break down.
|
Still emotional over an hour later.
That was really hard to watch and really, really good. |
|
Was fucking floored that the equipment wwe approvedof wasn't meant for harnessing human beings. How the fuck Vince got away with this is amazing. Jesus.
|
All those wrestlers too, wrestling on a dented ring with their friend's blood freshly stained in the corner.
|
Can't imagine trying to go on with the show. In hindsight it was an awful decision.
|
Quote:
And mountaineering obviously. |
When Jericho compared Owen to Johnny from The Karate Kid it clicked in my brain perfectly.
That is why I always bought Owen Hart as a heel. He really is a bigger Johnny Lawrence. |
Holy shit, I don't think I ever heard that Owen had shouted "look out" as he fell before seeing that.
|
That was a great episode. There was a hell of a lot of Martha and family in it which was a big get for the show, that adds some serious credibility.
I think the most important thing was that JR and Corny both reacted in a much more open and emotional way about Owen than I have ever heard them before. Every good wrestling podcast has an Owen episode and none besides Something To Wrestle ever took it to a place where tears were evident. I'm not saying I liked them crying, it was just nice to see that they aren't as toughened to the subject as I had thought. It was refreshing to see sadness alongside the obvious anger, I suppose. |
It was also a clear and damning attack on Vince Mahon without taking away from Owen at all. I don't think any episode has taken such well placed shots at him and it was all organic.
Martha undoubtedly calculated her input for maximum damage but good for her, I doubt it was a reach. |
Owen Hart episode ended up surpassing the Chris Benoit 2-hour episode as the most watched episode in series history by around 29,000 viewers.
Benoit episode had 320k while the Owen episode had 349k. |
David Bixenspan just found a report that stated Max Mini was originally supposed to be attached to Owen the night of the fall but they decided against it.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">To add more context to this, here's Max Mini's testimonial from the Owen Hart tribute ep. of WWF Los Super Astros, which aired on 5/30/1999, 7 days after the accident.<br><br>I've overlaid English subtitles thanks to transcription & translation work from <a href="https://twitter.com/PharrFromHeaven?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@PharrFromHeaven</a> & <a href="https://twitter.com/RobViper?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@RobViper</a>. <a href="https://t.co/372kyYQxVR">https://t.co/372kyYQxVR</a> <a href="https://t.co/Z5gheMH4e5">pic.twitter.com/Z5gheMH4e5</a></p>— David Bixenspan (@davidbix) <a href="https://twitter.com/davidbix/status/1263157748893650944?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 20, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

I thought the blood on the ring was from a Brood "Blood Bath" or the hardcore match that took place earlier in the night.
|
Yeah I had thought something happened on Heat.
I think the Brood gave the Hardyz a bloodbath or something like that |
Yeah I found it, Matt touches the mat after the blood bath

Goldust and Blue Meanie vs Hardyz /w/ Michael Hayes.
I totally forgot both were a thing. |
Michael Hayes should never have been encouraged to wear that shirt the Hardy's used to wear. It was too tight on his bulky old frame.
He looked so sweaty and hairy. |
I remember thinking Michael Hayes getting to manage the Hardys would be game changing for them. It certainly got them going in the right direction.
|
Michael Hayes going to a rave later on
|
Oh yeah, forgot about this match. I always remember the two brothers in the crowd doing some sort of jive handshake after Bradshaw clotheslines Jeff out of mid air.

Of course Hayes is in the shirt in that video.

For those interested, the Observer had a free episode of their Observer Radio show yesterday with Martha Hart as the guest and uploaded it afterwards on their Youtube channel.

First, unfortunately, money and PR almost undoubtedly had a large role in no one being charged criminally. Second, it's difficult and rarely a slam dunk to prove recklessness or negligence, especially in a criminal case where the standard for conviction is the much higher, beyond a reasonable doubt. Third, assuming that Vince was likely not directly responsible or involved in any of the actual engineering, planning, use, or selection of the equipment that failed or was inadequate, it would be increasingly difficult to prove that Vince himself essentially knew or should have known that use of the equipment involved would have likely caused the death of Owen. Talbert would be a more likely candidate, but that would still be a tough ask. It's also possible that additional evidence the state may have felt it needed to prove negligence or recklessness did not become available or apparent until after the statute of limitations period of three years had passed. There's also the idea that, for the WWE people involved, it was unforeseeable that the equipment manufacturer would be negligent in making or recommending the inadequate equipment, and the manufacturer's negligence was an intervening cause or act negating any culpability to anyone personally involved from WWE. |

Is season 3 confirmed?
|
I don't believe it has
|
No but one of the top people at VICE mentioned a few weeks ago about them being eager for a new season and also plans for a spin-off series.
|
Oh yeah, I forgot about that
|
Season 3 wishlist
1. Chris Adams 2. Chris Adams 3. Chris Adams 4. Chris Adams 5. Chris Adams |
On the Conrad "Darkside of the Podcast" they made it feel like they need a break but they hope to do season 3 in the future. They are tired and want to work on other projects for now it seems.
|
I don't blame them for wanting to take a break since the second season did feel a lot more darker and depressing in tone than the first.
|
One of the producers that his dream would be to do a Vince McMahon series of like 20 episodes, interviewing him in relation to all of the crazy stories he's involved in. Goddamn I hope that could happen.
|
Vince McMahon is like the fairies in Peter Pan, if you believe in him hard enough he will make all of your dreams come true Jordan.
|
According to PWI, VICE recently ordered a third season for the series with a potential debut date of April 2021.
Also according to the series composer, Dark Side of the Ring was originally planned to be called "Falls Count Anywhere" and wasn't meant to be as dark in tone for episodes. Quote:

It's why they had a civil case instead of a criminal case. Had the clamp broke or the cable snapped, it would still be very hard to prove criminal charges, but their would be an argument to bring charges. Without that, they did what they could and held Vince financially responsible. |

Owen Hart's ribs had all of the impact of a turnbuckle from 100 feet.
Factual metaphor. Respect the effort. |
Conrad brought up a great topic for season 3 on Grilling Jr this week
Muhammad Hassan |
The heat he got was awesome, wish UPN didn't fuck him over.
|
The fact that they chose to just kill Hassan off after that instead of give him another run on Raw where Spike would've let them get away with more was a tragedy.
|
Quote:
WWE gave some excuses for why they didn't but all that ended up doing was pissing off UPN even more when it actually aired on tv. Think either UPN threatened to pull their tv contract or some other serious punishment if WWE continued with the Hassan storyline for Smackdown. |
Now that guy could really work the mic, used to love Daviari shouting in Farsi too.

Anyone watch Darkside of the Ring: Confidential? The first episode revisited and got deeper into the Gino Hernandez story. I enjoyed it even more than the original airing. They dropped that Gino's Grandfather married Jimmy Snuka's Mom in a kind of wild story. Also we learned that Gino was indeed not the son of Paul Bosch. Looking forward to the next one.

The one show I make a point to watch.
I can't wait to hear some Johnny K-9 stories. He's a legend amongst the indie guys in my city. |
I'm most excited for FMW, Collision in Korea, Nick Gage and XPW (if that is covered, I think I read that it is).
