Twilight - 0.5/10

I watched this at the request of someone I was arguing about with it. She said I cant have a valid opinion unless I watched it all.

I did and my opinion actually lowered because of it.

Resident Evil: Afterlife - 4/10

Dunno. I can't remember a single line from the movie. Seems like the whole thing was action scenes over generic techno, which was kinda nifty in parts. It was pretty fun, just wished they could've added dialog or an idea or something.

Schlomey 09-10-2010 09:15 PM

is it worth seeing in 3d tb1?

DaveWadding 09-11-2010 04:17 AM

Kick Ass - 4.4/10 - What a fucking load of crap.

RoXer 09-11-2010 04:18 AM

Get out of here

DaveWadding 09-11-2010 04:43 PM

and it only got a 4.4 because Kick Ass looked like you and the girl thought he was a homo.

Bad Lt.: Port of Call New Orleans (new version) - 3.5/5

mitch_h 09-12-2010 09:22 PM

127 Hours - New Danny Boyle film; I usually find his stuff kind of hit or miss, but this was really enjoyable. James Franco stars as this outdoorsy guy who gets his arm trapped by a boulder while (who betta than) canyoning and then cuts his own arm off to escape. It's based on a true story and 90% of the movie is just Franco by himself and he does a great job carrying the film. Feels like a Boyle film with lots of gimmicky shots and plenty of energy. Intense film (apparently two people had panic attacks at Telluride) and the arm cutting scene is insane.

From Paris with Love - 8/10

Travolta was badass in this.

DaveWadding 09-13-2010 06:18 AM

The Runaways - 5/10 - Fucking lame. Edgeplay was a way better movie.

Johnny McNasty 09-14-2010 04:38 AM

Thirst- 8/10

Nice twist on an old story. Best vampire flick I've seen in ages.

dronepool 09-14-2010 05:50 AM

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse

8.5/10

Awesome.

PorkSoda 09-14-2010 02:46 PM

Stand By Me - 8/10. This was a movie that I watched today. It was film. I watched it.

Schlomey 09-14-2010 02:49 PM

Great review!

See No Evil - 1?/10

I give it a 1? because I fast forwarded throughout it, only wanting to see the good parts. Too bad, there were no good parts besides a shower scene. I got halfway through on fast forward and I thought "This sucks" so I shut it off. I am now posting on TPWW and telling you this. I sleepwalk

Second day at the Toronto Film Festival

Black Swan - Pretty much what I wanted it to be. It was similar to the Wrestler in many ways but also very different. Resembled the Wrestler in style and the way it observes an artists dedication to their craft, however this one play out more like a Polanski thriller with a bit of Cronenberg thrown in for good measure. I've never really been convinced by Portman as an actress but she was perfect as a frigid and neurotic ballerina, Kunis and Cassell were really good too. Can't wait to see this again.

Rabbit Hole - Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart play a married couple dealing with grief after their four year old son died. I was surprised to see a movie with such big actors play out so subtly, so it was different than I expected. Not entirely sure how I feel about it yet but for such sombre material it was surprisingly hilarious.

The Sleeping Beauty - Some shit Catherine Breillat film, saw it to kill time.

Meek's Cutoff- Loved this, plays out like a movie from Gus Van Sant's death trilogy, I even felt this was more successful. Despite being thin on plot, Reichart does a great job of conveying some big ideas about the frauds we put our faith in, and the silenced voice of the oppressed. Not a film for most.

Normally I don't see many famous people when I go to the festival but I saw a whole bunch of dumbass celebrities this time. Going again Saturday to see Never Let Me Go, and to hopefully get tickets to a 3D Werner Herzog documentary.

Steve Austin is The Stranger - 5/10

Boring and not exactly a lot of "Action"

AKin3D 09-17-2010 02:13 AM

Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D 5/10

The story was boring. Just the next part. Not much more I can say about that. Music was ok. Action was fair. For my first 3D movie it was ok. Nothing wowing really dirt, bullets, blood, glass, and explosion in 3D. So if you are like should I go see it in 3D, I say you can pass and it want kill you.

On 3D I can honestly that when they previewed movies that are coming out. Tron was the only one that I think you'd be missing out if you don't see it in 3D.

El Fangel 09-17-2010 05:53 AM

Waynes World - 7/10 - Very funny, but kinda annoying at times.

It has taken you all these years to watch Wayne's World?

I can't fathom that.

Check my most recent thread in the movie forum.

thedamndest 09-18-2010 01:38 PM

We've discussed this in here before, but you really can't watch an early 90's movie that you were supposed to see when you were 12 in your early 20's right now. It just doesn't work.

Droford 09-18-2010 10:01 PM

Black Dynamite 8/10

Kung Fu Richard Nixon!

Can't wait for the Adult Swim Cartoon.

mitch_h 09-19-2010 07:25 PM

Never Let Me Go - Huge fan of the book so take my mini review with a grain of salt. I thought the third act was perfect, it managed to be both very moving and horribly depressing. But I don't think the sullenness was required for the whole film, I would have liked more levity during the Hailsham and even some of the cottage sequences. I also found the relationships a little thin, not just between the three leads but between Kathy and Hailsham, I was scratching my head as to why they left out certain scenes that would have helped flesh out these relationships, it seemed like the melancholy of story was a greater priority to Romanek. Reminded me of the Road in some ways, faithful to book, directed with vision but still came up somewhat short. Probably give it a 7/10

The Promise. The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town - Damn, I like Springsteen but I did not know he had such a clear artistic vision. This was exceptional, very entertaining and even intimate as most of the documentary was old footage of the band recording in Bruce's farm house. Really enjoyed this. Saw this by myself and I felt like a bit of weirdo as 90% of the people at the screening were over 40.

Cave of Forgotten Dreams -The 3d was pretty hit or miss to me. It gave a nice depth to caves and it did feel like you were actually there, but it felt weird seeing 3D interviews and some of the handycam stuff gave me a headache. Even the exterior shots looked kinda weird to me, I dunno I just prefer watching films the "traditional" way I guess. The doc was good though, beautiful... even soothing at time and of course, full of hilarious Herzogian quirks. Wouldn't mind seeing it again in 2D.

Resident Evil Afterlife 9/10

It was badass.

XL 09-20-2010 11:13 AM

Jumper - 7/10
It was enjoyable enough. Hayden Christiansen's voice was annoying, but Rachael Bilson = yum.

Shelter - 7.5/10
An odd one this. Started out like a psychological thriller then veered off into the horror genre, I guess. Convinced me that Jonathan Rhys Meyers would make an awesome Riddler in the next Batman fim.

RoXer 09-20-2010 09:21 PM

Disney's Earth - 79 Rented it to show off the visuals on my badass tv and my tv is indeed badass
Crips and Bloods - 53

Triple A 09-21-2010 03:28 AM

Bad Boy Bubby - 7/10
About a guy whose mother keeps locked in a house for his entire life and tells him he can never leave or he will die of inhaling poison outside.

Mad ridiculous movie. Was incredible until halfway through then just got completely ridiculous. Really fucked movie though.

Paris, Texas - 4/10
So disappointing. Was recommended this movie by like 5 different people. Kinda feel like I "don't have the patience" for these types of movies anymore. Was really "meticulous" aka insanely slow but never got into it at all. Last scene was pretty good but other than that was just like "damn, don't feel like watching this right now" for most of the movie.

mitch_h 09-21-2010 05:27 PM

Yeah Paris Texas is probably my second favourite movie of all time, but if you are not sucked into it's atmosphere or whatever then it's probably just boring and pointless.

XL 09-22-2010 11:37 AM

Devil - 8.5/10

My first instinct was 9/10 but that's to high. But 8 is too low compared to how I rated the last 2 films I watched (which maybe I rated too high). So we'll call this an "adjusted" score.

Razzamajazz 09-22-2010 05:48 PM

how is devil? is there a decent story or is it just a bunch of that sudden shock horror crap?

XL 09-22-2010 06:05 PM

There's plenty of "scares" in there (or at least my g/f was jumping) but also a lot of suspense. My g/f gave it a 4/10 at first as she though the ending was "cliche" but then she ammended to an 8/10 after reconsideration.

I'd give it a go. Mind you I went on "cheap night" so it only cost £4.60 or something.

Sixx 09-22-2010 10:08 PM

Iron Man 2 - 8/10

Cool action movie and I loved Downey Jr in this.

RoXer 09-23-2010 12:57 AM

The Cove - 83

Interesting, depressing, riviting, "visually stunning"

RoXer 09-23-2010 02:15 AM

The King of Kong 125

Possibly the greatest documentary ever

DaveWadding 09-23-2010 03:12 AM

Fight Club - 7.7/10 - I understand how this movie could be the best thing ever when you're 16 and trying to rebel and be cool, and it was a good enough movie, but I didn't think it was as great as I'd heard.

PorkSoda 09-25-2010 12:51 AM

Easy A - 9.9/10.

This movie is easily a 10. Emma Stone had to carry the whole thing, and it was great because of that. Emma is the real deal, she can hold her own. Her and Clint Eastwood would make a great pair. I think I'll have to write it because if I don't make it happen, nobody will.

Johnny McNasty 09-25-2010 06:32 AM

Get Him To the Greek - 10/10

One part in the movie had me in stitches for ten mins straight. I haven't laughed that hard at one scene in a movie, since the naked fight scene in Borat. For that alone it gets a 10/10.
