I'd really like to see the next evolution of Jericho at the end of this stable war. Perhaps less comedy and more of that bruiser style he brought to NJPW.

She was allegedly unsigned when she had that match with Rosa, where she felt she didn't have to sell for the NWA Women's Champion because she was "the vet." A decently run promotion would have seen that match and decided not to waste their time with her.

That part of the rumor about why that match quickly fell apart got debunked afterwards.

Supposedly AEW wanted their match to be a bit more physical than usual for a AEW women's match to tap into Rosa's MMA background. Problem was that whole plan quickly fell apart after Rosa accidentally went a bit too stiff on a spot or two leading to Ivelisse getting quickly pissed off and her bad rep of being a hothead and pain to deal with being displayed for all to see.

I'm surprised she's lasted this long in AEW since even in Lucha Underground she was supposedly a pain to deal with and they only held tapings a few times per year.

Full card for AEW House Show during Mania week...

Quote:

AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler vs. Death Triangle (PAC, Penta El Zero Miedo, Rey Fenix)
AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Michael Nakazawa vs. The Sydal Brothers
TNT Champion Darby Allin vs. TBD
12-man battle royal for TNT title shot (Powerhouse Hobbs, Lance Archer, Ricky Starks, Scorpio Sky, Ethan Page, The Butcher, The Blade, Dustin Rhodes, Austin Gunn, Colten Gunn, Dark Order's 10 and Colt Cabana)
Cody Rhodes vs. Aaron Solow street fight
AEW Women's Champion Hikaru Shida, Tay Conti and Red Velvet vs. Nyla Rose, Britt Baker and The Bunny
Eddie Kingston vs. Cezar Bononi
The Pinnacle vs. Jurassic Express and Dante Martin of Top Flight (eight man tag)
Orange Cassidy and Jade Cargill in action
I read initially the point of this show was to give the younger talent a chance to work in front of a proper live paying crowd. The one that is really throwing me is Cody vs Solo. They could've out Cody with a younger opponent and given someone a real opportunity to learn. Either way this card is what it is. If I lived in Jacksonville I'd probably skip it. Dynamite cards are a lot better.

I think it's a line from a song IIRC. Basically, even if I'm talking, I can back up my talk because, unlike the boy who cried wolf, I'm an actual wolf with teeth.

Fignuts 04-06-2021 11:58 AM

That still doesn't make sense. Crying wolf has nothing to do with talking trash. It's more about faking an injury or proclaiming there's an emergency when there is none.

That's the point though, it's not "crying wolf" when it's an actual wolf doing it. People might think it's a boy "crying wolf" situation if that's what they're used to, until they realize it's an actual wolf.

Jordan 04-06-2021 12:16 PM

It's stupid.

#1-norm-fan 04-06-2021 12:22 PM

Lol I saw that Tweet yesterday and was puzzled as well.

Who is crying wolf is irrelevant. Even if a wolf cries wolf they’re still crying wolf. Otherwise it’s just a wolf telling the truth. Why even mention “crying wolf”?

Unless she’s saying that wolf is literally crying “WOLF!”. In which case it’s ratting out itself and/or a fellow wolf. But you can still see it’s teeth. So even though it’s a traitor to the wolves, it is not to be trusted because teeth.

We need more backstory on this wolf.

A wolf crying wolf is literally how they communicate. They don't do it to deceive others but to let others know that they're a wolf. Another creature or boy crying wolf is not how that animal communicates and is only done to deceive others into thinking that it's a wolf.

The metaphor is that people who talk trash are like the boy who cried wolf in that they're all phonies or liars but a real wolf talks trash to communicate it's actual status, and if you're mistaken that I'm not a wolf and I'm doing it to deceive you, you're going to realize I'm an actual wolf once you see my teeth.

The story literally ends with the boy crying wolf in a non-deceptive manner though.

So if “crying wolf” is meant as literally crying “Wolf!” then it doesn’t make sense because it’s NOT only done to deceive others.

If “crying wolf” is meant figuratively the way the idiom implies then it doesn’t make sense because a wolf crying wolf is still “crying wolf”. Who gives a shit about its teeth? And why does it matter that you can STILL see them? The visibility of its teeth even if it cries wolf adds a whole new puzzling aspect.

I’m sticking with Brandi stretching for a deep meaning that isn’t there.

AEW Booking in Numbers

I'm ripping this from the F4O forum, from a poster named FinePlum. Interesting stats about AEW lately.

Quote:

I'll go to the clickbait stat first to get it out of the way (And which I've added the last). I'll leave it without comments:

Number of unique people in matches (excl. valets/managers/bodyguards/lumberjacks) in Q1 2021:

AEW (Dynamite - 2h per week): 92 people
WWE (Raw+Smackdown - 5h per week): 78 people

Now, my main goal was to compare AEW booking vs the same period one year ago, so I've taken Q1 2020 vs Q1 2021.
The idea came from the last week ratings discussion. So that's when I started digging. Then Dave had mentioned the person who started counting people on last Dynamite and that number was ridiculed by some. Initially, I've counted only wrestlers only participating in matches. Later on I've added "valets..." separately.

Yesterday on WOL Bryan said that he doesn't think that the booking has changed vs a year ago. Well, numbers seem to disagree:

Dynamite Q1 2020 - Q1 2021

Number of unique people in matches (excl. valets): 62 - 92 (48% growth)
Average number of valets/managers/lumberjacks per match: 0.84 - 1.25 (49% growth)
Number of matches per episode: 4.8 - 5.8
Average match length: 11:06 - 9:46

The latter two stats are more trivia.

Lastly, the reason it took me so long is because I wanted to compare the focus time on each wrestler. And I am sorry that it took me this long because there were several topics popping up on AEW booking and now I've added yet another one.

Focus time is how much time is devoted to a certain wrestler in a match. For example, a match between two wrestlers lasting 10 minutes will have focus time of 10 minutes per each of wrestler.

Every next wrestler added to the match bites some part of that time, because I don't believe being featured in 1-on-1 match for 10 minutes and featured in Battle Royal for 10 minutes have the same exposure and connection with the audience. So, focus time = match length / (number of wrestlers / 2). For example, 6 man tag of 21 minutes will have a focus time of 7 minutes per wrestler.

Top-20 wrestlers by focus time.

Dynamite Q1 2020 (66% of total focus time):
Kenny Omega 95:58

Tay Conti 21:39
Karl Anderson 20:55

Notable observations:
Top-20 wrestlers are now getting only half of the time, year ago it was two thirds
Women are now getting more time: Britt Baker is #2, 5 women in top-20 vs 3 last year
Kenny Omega and Moxley lost almost 50% of their focus time, being feature in multiple multimen matches
Sammy Guevara has lost the most: last year he was #3, now he is #70
Jungle Boy is featured less than he was a year ago
Adam Page is featured less than he was a year ago
Karl Anderson is tied #20 with Doc Gallows and they are not even AEW talent
Conclusions? I think it proves the general feeling that AEWs booking is less focused now with less focus on the top stars. I didn't compare amount of post-match beatdowns, but I guess this year is far ahead in that regard as well.

They need to have Hangman, Sammy and Jungle on way more

Emperor Smeat 04-07-2021 06:39 PM

Going by those two lists, they basically swapped being heavy with top acts and stars in terms of time to trying to be more balanced overall for the long term benefit.

Women's division itself went from being mostly an afterthought last year to something that has been gaining a lot of steam ever since the Women's title tournament.

The problem with the women's division is that they have a few potential stars, Britt, Conti, Cargill, and the other blonde that is injured right now (just forgot her name). But they keep pushing Shida, Rose, and other Joshi talent. They have the potential to have a small solid division but they water it down with people who are so WWE Diva's search that it makes me lose interest real quick.

Toss in Serena Deep and Thunder Rosa and they have enough to get through a season of programs until they can get a deal with Tessa and Grayce, whom they desperately need.

Emperor Smeat 04-07-2021 08:04 PM

Reason why Shida gets pushed the most is because she's been AEW's most reliable in-ring wrestler almost since the start. Same for the other Joshis since the bulk of AEW's Women's division is either too green in general or just need more experience working in a tv format and/or large crowds.

That's pretty much AEW's biggest issue since they just need a lot of time to gel and cement the division but problem is they haven't done a good job handling the process and the pandemic causing issues on top of that.

For comparisons, took NXT a long time as well to build up their women's division to where it really started to feel very special and provide the spark needed for WWE's Women's Revolution. Main difference was NXT was a lot more focused when it came to building their women's division and why ts progress felt a lot less rough.

I hate Miro, he sucks at wrestling. It's too bad because he could basically be a Bulgarian Bolo Yung but he sucks and wants to be a video game gimmick.

drave 04-08-2021 02:48 PM

Bolo Young always got his ass kicked, even when cheating.

drave 04-08-2021 02:49 PM

RVD and Miro should re-enact every Jean Claude Van Damme and Bolo Young's boss fights.

Now that is the kind of shit I want to see.

AEW currently planning on leaving Daily's Place this August based on recent schedule changes made for Dynamite shows this summer.

Would be around the same time WWE is also currently planning on potentially resuming touring and live events.

Shida and Riho aren't even that good.

Has AEW created any new significant stars or are most of their current stars former WWE employees?

Fignuts 04-08-2021 09:02 PM

Darby Allin and MJF are the standouts I'd say.

slik 04-08-2021 10:01 PM

Britt Baker
Darby
MJF
Sammy
Jungle Boy
Orange Cassidy
John Silver
Jade Cargill (soon)

Fignuts 04-08-2021 10:09 PM

John Silver is a good hand. I wouldn't call him a significant star.
