Cody's stuff in AEW has suffered way too much from sticking out like a sore thumb based how often it ends up being over booked or over thought for storylines and feuds.

Like if the goal is to make him into the modern day version of his dad with the American Dream persona, then its been going in the wrong direction as of late. Right now his version of the American Dream persona feels a lot more like an outdated version of Hulk Hogan's pro-USA and overly patriotic part of his gimmick and way less like his father's hero of the "common man" persona.

It's really weird that he would come out and say that. Like, what's the benefit of peeling back the curtain in this case?

I'd assume he probably thought that was going to deflect a lot of the blame and online backlash he's been getting ever since delivering that stinker of a promo.

Doesn't help that most of the stuff he boasted about himself to trash Ogogo would actually fit in with Ogogo himself. Like him taking pride in having a mixed race baby when Ogogo himself comes from a mixed race ethnic family.

The only bad thing Cody has done on screen was that Dream promo. He's still one of the best. I don't understand you ungrateful fucks. Cody would whoop your ass and have a baby in the morning.

I just don't find him entertaining. Settle down fella.

I like Cody enough but his booking has gotten increasingly self-absorbed over the past year.

Which is kinda funny seeing as on one of the first Dynamite storylines was Cody attempting to distance himself from those optics by booking the "this is my one and only chance at the AEW World Title" stip.

They reveal stupid shit all the time. QT Marshall about how he doesn’t know how to format shows. TK does his stupid scrums. The Bucks talked about how Shawn Spears’ chair was gimmicked. Cody flat-out saying that Shaq was supposed to have a publicity stunt match with him and Brandi. Every Jericho tweet.

This promotion just sucks.

So real question. They have bragged forever that they don't have scripted promos.

But then what would you call a practiced/workshopped/focus group tested promo?

Seems even more offensive than WWE making wrestlers remember a few lines no?

They also bragged about having storylines for years, only for QT Marshall to come out and admit it is pieces together via text message day of.

They also bragged about treating wrestlers like real human beings and teased offering them health care.

They also teased a giant debut and gave the world Christian Cage.

They also said TBS was their home, then got booted off it like the next week.

And so on...

Dashing Cody Rhodes was tremendous. Loved those vignettes

Who had Sting, Hogan, and Savage ones?

Stardust may have been a terrible idea but Cody performed the hell out of it. I remember seeing a video of him crashing a Comic Con in character and he was pretty brilliant.

He was fine. Some of the things he did were needlessly hammy and didn’t really add substance to anything, but he definitely threw himself into it.

I liked Un-Dashing Cody Rhodes, but the more I reflect on it the more I realize Cody didn’t really have it. Even his best work in AEW relied on his brother and Chris Jericho to bring the emotional energy to it. Everything else since has kind of sucked.

His best role in WWE was probably in the tag team with Goldust in 2013. I have no clue why they had them drop the belts to the New Age Outlaws instead of going into a program with The Wyatt Family, The Usos or even The Real Americans at the time.

No, the stars of AEW are larger than life so that's why the buddies appear smaller to you.

I really liked his work in NJPW. Bringing a classic western style heel added more depth to an already varied roster. I think his AEW stuff has been mostly good, but I'm hoping for a heel turn, as that's where he really shines.
