TPWW Watches Classic Wrestling Thursdays at 9pm EST (Pre-show at 8:30)
So I had this idea in the 100,000 replies thread where we could do a weekly watch-a-long of a classic wrestling show. If enough people are into it and it picks up steam, I’d like to do multiple shows from different territories, ideally staying within the same timeframe for comparison sake.
I’m doing a “soft start” this week to ease into things and because I’ll be too busy this evening to set anything up. (and also because Gertner is excited as fuck for this and I can’t make him wait another week). Just gonna post the video. Next Thursday if we’ve got enough people interested I’d like to pick a time and do a synced up watch-a-long though I kinda wanna keep the chat in this thread for people who can’t make the live stream. Anyway, let’s see how this goes. Enjoy our first show... From January 4th 1986... NWA World Championship Wrestling. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zLWUF8KvqU8" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I will try to check out some of this episode soon hopefully!
Thinking Thursday nights at 9 EST/6 PST for the live watch-a-longs?
We could also go full-on time machine and do Saturdays at 6:05 EST/3:05 PST. Suggestions welcome. |
Good thread idea

3:03 After David Crockett asks Tully where Baby Doll is. Some guy in the audience: “Tully, I like your new Baby Dummy!”
You know that guy had the greatest “Hah! Got him!” smug smile on his face after that line. |
God I love David Crockett lol
You can hear a female voice yelling for Thunderfoot. Against the fucking Rock ‘n’ Roll Express. Lest anyone think heel-loving contrarians are a new thing.
THE discord?
We have a discord? Why wasn’t I aware of this? And what is a discord? |
Is this a thing I need to download on my magic phone? I’ll do it if it makes things easier for everyone.
Well that seems like the best plan.
Damn. Might not be available for livestreams.
I’m open to shift the livestream to the best possible time for the highest amount of people.
Link the livestream from another device / window and keep live chat/discussion going in the Live Watch Along Thread
Hell of a double dropkick by the R&R.
Thunderfoot Joel Deaton was a really good wrestler. Recently passed away. Great team with Bad Boy Billy Black |
Who a pro Baby Doll was
I’ve watched ahead. Avoiding spoilers. But Thunderfoot is fascinating to me. Didn’t remember him at all.
Thunderbolt and Billy Black wrestled on the first few Smokey Mountain shows in the tag tournament and wrestled a good amount in All Japan as "The Wild Bunch". They were really good!
I had a similar thread idea a while ago but I didn’t think it would be feasible due to my work hours. I should manage it when I’m off though.
Good stuff. |
Harley seemed to look a lot in the WWF 5-6 months later
In hindsight, the king gimmick made him feel like an old man going through dementia as opposed to an old man who, while unassuming when he speaks, could stretch you into a pretzel.
By the way, that grizzled old fuck was younger here than AJ Styles is today.
It's crazy how different people age nowadays
Miniak maybe
Omg those chops by Garvin
There's some tags out there with Wahoo and Ronnie on the same team just chopping the living shit out of jobbers
Tremendous promos all around
haha Cornette is so great
Magnum vs Barbarian. This should be good. LOVE Barbarian.
Loved the Main Event. Pretty great show
Nice. Tony Schiavone with the stache.
lol thunderfoot. Sounds like a name for a native American wrestler but instead it's this dude in a red gimp suit. You'd think at some point Robert Gibson would get tired of his tag partner constantly getting the shit kicked out of him. Nice finish. Wonder what Tony, JJ, and Tully talked about during that match. Probably Babydoll's tits. lol they're still there. Are they just gonna hang out for the whole show? Ok that recap segment was good. Even Harley Race's grunts sound mean. Love Ivan Koloff I don't like Bill tabs odds. Great Dusty promo Yeeeeeeaaaah RUBBISH RONNIE GARBAGE Ooooooooo that slap was tasty. lol just slapping the shit out of him. Chest rake I love it. Oh geez wedgied the fuck out of him. ahaha he just punched him in the face for the finish. Wwe needs to bring fans into their backstage interviews to randomly shout things. Oh god these poor sons of bitches facing the road warriors. Oh nevermind, it was like 4 seconds. |
I was all geared up to see the Warriors paralyze someone and it never happened sadly.
"I hear he wears earplugs when he eats rice Krispies so he doesn't hear the snap crackle pop!" Jesus christ lol
Ragin bull seems good. He really hates this guy's inner thigh. Good selling from Clark lol big WA TAAAA karate strike from this chubby redneck. Spends the whole match working the leg, and finishes with a flying elbow strike wtf Ric Flair being awesome Kent glover looking way out of his depth. Arn Anderson victorious over trailer trash kawada. lol Flair Jimmy Valiants persona is literally just homeless Crack head. Yeah, cornette. So young here. "He used to be horrible, now he's just pitiful" "Watching this you can see that Condrey is a very......good .....wrestler" Riveting commentary, Crockett. Oh god that was a legit brainbuster "Thpathm" Babydoll's stepford wives smile is kind of creepy. Magnum vs Barbarian should be fun. Feel like magnum is getting too much on barbarian. Shine is lasting a bit too long. Ok barbarian in control now. lol harley Ah, shmoz ending. Holy shit did hawk just take off his choker by flexing his roidy neck muscles? Jimmy valiant again. Meth is a hell of a drug. I know Sam Houston. None of the other guys. lol almost took out his own partner with that Bulldog. Weird that they ended with that match instead of magnum vs barbarian Fun show Ronnie Garvin was the highlight for me |
WWF used to do that shit too where they'd air a match of low card guys at the end of their show after a huge match or angle.
Like Fignuts said, Ronnie Garvin smacking that jobber around is the highlight of the show

Here. On this thread of internet.
(Couldn’t think of a good old-timey way to say it. Sorry.) |
I should be online for this one
I’ll make a watch2gether link 30 minutes or so before to test things out. Seems to be the best option at the moment unless someone has a better one to try out. I figure I’ll make Seanny, Gertner and whoever else pops in (that I can verify) room mods just so that the stream doesn’t die if I leave for some reason.
i dunno how this watch2gether shit works but i'm gonna try to make it!
I’ll post the link. You click it, put in a username and watch rasslin.
Hopefully it goes that smooth. |
Discussing here would be best if you can work two-browser magic but I’ll also post the video here after along with live chat highlights if possible.
Can we do voice chat
With our cocks out
In another couple weeks I should be able to participate. For now I'll give my thoughts in here.
You should pay a hooker to describe it to you

Changed to sync-tube. Seems like it might be better. Just change your username in “settings”. 8 minutes!

2 minutes!
we can talk about tony's mustache, but let's not leave out that little feathered haircut he's rocking.
I'm watching the episode in the first post myself right now...
Looking at "Baby Doll" and thinking she looks like 45 yrs old but is probably like 26... Just looked it up and she was 24 years old... |
Maybe this is "blasphemous" but feel really annoyed by Dusty Rhodes' promo... grating to me... bragging about how much money he makes and how he likes to party and stuff... It's his gimmick I guess but idk...
big ass Israeli flag annoying me . . .
every wrestler in the first 35 mins (until the Road Warriors) is a big fat mess...
Wish more wrestlers these days would go back to yelling during their promos... every1 is so calm these days...
God Ric Flair rules
Really incredible |
Ric Flair like 982375978235 times a better promo than Dusty Rhodes!!! (based on this episode)
Holy shit Flair rules
Really enjoying the show and "invested in the feud" now cause of him |
#1wwf-fan, RonTheDial, myself and Seanny just finished watching. Really good show.
two episodes, first time around for me on these, i think i'll have to come back for three.
Some fantastic jobber matches. Also Ronnie Garvin rattled off his favorite hobbies for a full minute. It was mesmerizing. Video coming...

Why would Triple A watch the first one and not come watch the second one with us.
Weirdo. |
All I can say is that if every wrestling show had jobbers like that one did then every wrestling show would be worth watching.
They were getting pelted all over the place. |
Tony Schiavone becomes a Tim Heidecker character for about 15 seconds starting at 1:19.
it really feels impossible to pick my favorite jobber but it might be jerry blacklund for that sickle sell
and mat matching gear

You just hate us
Half the guys on these shows look like they would drop common loot when you defeat them.
The jobbers on this episode were all brothers as mandated by Jim Crockett
i dreamt of a mulkeys vs jeffers match
It would be good if there was one somewhere.
We should do a Mulkey night. Mulkey Mania was an actual thing but I dunno where and when. |
The best thing about watching last night was that there were four grown ass men enjoying an episode of tv that they were either not born yet to see at the time, or too young to appreciate and yet we all popped for the same spots.
World Class Viewing |
I would say the Jobbers were so good that they made that show.
It was a parade of pasty white asses that hurled themselves like they were made of rubber. |
The Jeffers Brothers later became "The Mod Squad" later on. They might have had a squash match against the Mulkeys
did they ride around the ring on vespas?
Lol well it was a biker gimmick
Loved it when Garvin’s jobber took a huge bump off of the phantom punch and they decided to show the replay but just paused it before the punch “connected”.
If we’re watching this blind with no wrestling knowledge of anything before or after these two weeks, Garvin is the MVP, right?
His Lou Costello-esque promo delivery aside.
When's the next time you guys are gonna watch together?
I think every Thursday at 9pm

I reserve the right to do a random Saturday 6:05 show on short notice occasionally as well though. Still testing out which slot brings in a crowd. Number to beat is 4. |
I hope we get more people next time. It was alot of fun.
I will be there next Thursday. Hey guys, what do you say we watch some classic porno's together too? We can star with 1989 classic "The Adventures of Butt Man", also up for 1993's memorable "Wok 'n Roll"!
I started the show on the hour with just myself and rtd watching and I was very concerned that this was all a bust. Seanny’s puns and Gertner’s spur-of-the-moment expertise added a lot.

I haven’t watched wrestling with company for over twenty years.
It does improve the experience. |
Also, I go chronological. If you wanna do the same, let’s dissect Raylene or Bree Olson’s work in a way that we can pick apart their rise and fall both physically and as a performer.
Khrusher Khruschev breaking his leg and finishing the match was something else
Preview coming tomorrow!
This is the preview preview! FUCKING PUMPED! |
I should be on for the next one.
Ronnie Garvin MAY OR MAY NOT be in action.
