*gunshot*

DaveBrawl 07-09-2014 01:44 PM

Makes me want to cry when the only pitcher that can get a win is Franklin Morales.

ClockShot 07-09-2014 03:44 PM

Red Sox DFA A.J. Pierzynski.

Sign of the times. Big time name of the past getting sent down or released these days.

road doggy dogg 07-09-2014 03:58 PM

Tanaka going for an MRI on his pitching arm

you fucking kidding me

fuck you, baseball

Innovator 07-09-2014 05:34 PM

I'm done

ClockShot 07-09-2014 05:45 PM

Well. Atleast it's right before the all-star break. He's got some time. Probably miss 1 game tops.

Droford 07-09-2014 06:50 PM

Its gotta be the Orioles year, right? I would never have imagined the rest of the AL East imploding into a black hole of suck and injuries like they have.

Emperor Smeat 07-09-2014 06:53 PM

Either Red Sox are about to give up on the season or are planning on a bunch of trades soon.

Starting 5 rookies for tonight's game and probably staying that way till the break.

Have you not been paying attention this season?

See you in 2015, Masahiro Chono Masasto Tanaka :(

ClockShot 07-10-2014 07:34 AM

Don't be a downer, Vito. Think positive. This could be minor, it could be the worst.

The reality: Unless he’s in the vast minority of players for whom rehab works, Masahiro Tanaka eventually will need Tommy John surgery
He's out 6 weeks for rehab according to reports.

Droford 07-10-2014 09:26 PM

Stat line of the night/year

Colby Lewis 2 1/3 innings. 13 hits. 13 runs. 11 ER. 0BB. 1 SO. 1HR.

Frank Drebin 07-10-2014 09:34 PM

Sale and Rizzo deserve it. Especially Rizzo. He's having an outstanding year.

Waiting for Hawk Harrelson to start demanding that the White Sox sign his adopted son AJ.

ClockShot 07-10-2014 09:42 PM

Unless Cashman swings a trade for a big time pitcher, Yankees are pretty much done. Kuroda can't do this himself. And I don't trust McCarthy.

Gonna be a looooooooooong 6 weeks.

road doggy dogg 07-10-2014 10:18 PM

Raul Ibanez is SO bad. So comically hilariously deliciously bad.

Evil Vito 07-10-2014 11:11 PM

Tanaka should really just get the surgery now and aim to be back by the 2015 All Star Break. Rehabbing this kind of shit never works.

Droford 07-10-2014 11:15 PM

All the attention going to Tanaka but the Molina injury is probably just as big news.

Kershaw's scoreless streak is over

Frank Drebin 07-11-2014 08:48 AM

The Tanaka injury is another shit thing for baseball. The whole idea of pitching injuries is alarming. Seems like everyone has a ligament injury at some point. So many reasons for it. Max effort every pitch. Throwing sliders at too young an age. Too many pitches thrown in a whole life...reasons are endless.

At the end of the day with all these possibly pre existing conditions that put stress on the arm/elbow, what's an mlb team to do? Tanaka threw an average of 105 pitches this year. Should the yanks have been more cautious? Should the Rays not have David Price throw 110 pitches every game? I dunno.

Tanaka was throwing 150+ (upwards of 220) innings a year since the age of 18 in japan. The thing that saved his arm there was 6 days between starts. Kind of funny hearing everyone come out of the woodwork saying they saw this coming because of that load on his arm but no one was saying much 2 months ago, or even back when they signed him.

As for the injuries, I'm pretty sure it all comes down to the fact the human arm was never intended to repeat the throwing motion of a ball 200+ times (don't forget warmups) every 5 days for 7 months. It probably comes down to who has the best pitching mechanics and can consistently repeat a good pitching motion.

poopfromweiner dude 07-11-2014 01:31 PM

You're pretty sure, probably

I agree. Drotherfordium has the inside scoop

ClockShot 07-11-2014 03:56 PM

Yankees acquire Jeff Francis and a sack of monopoly money from the A's for a PTBNL.

Yeah. Not the "big move" I was talking about.

Droford 07-12-2014 12:58 AM

Reimold left the jays game with a calf injury. Took him longer to get injured than I figured.

Frank Drebin 07-12-2014 01:01 AM

Agreed Droford. Seems like the bottom line is just that with max effort of the throwing motion, ligaments get worn out over time like a tire and need to be replaced.

Two more points concerning the topic:

With this being an issue, why don't we see more of the maddox, glavine, or even buehrle type guys? Are they forgotten about because they don't blow up a radar gun and never get enough coaching to refine their skills? Does a pitcher have to be able to throw 95 mph gas to be effective these days?

It's interesting to see how this is shaping the way rosters are constructed. The cubs are clearly banking on hitting being a market deficiency because they consider it easier to find a guy who throws gas.

Sepholio 07-12-2014 02:06 AM

So the Braves got a player on the anti-allstar team. Guess who it is?

Hint: It's Dan Uggla.

Evil Vito 07-12-2014 04:37 PM

Some All Star Game roster shuffling:

AL out: Edwin Encarnacion (TOR), Masahiro Tanaka (NYY), Alex Gordon (KC), Victor Martinez (DET)
AL in: Kyle Seager (SEA), Koji Uehara (BOS), Eric Aybar (LAA), Ian Kinsler (DET)

NL out: Yadier Molina (STL), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS)
NL in: Miguel Montero (ARI), Henderson Alvarez (MIA)

There could very well be some more shuffling tomorrow. Guys pitching on the Sunday before the game are no longer required to sit out but if they decide to pitch in the game they can only go 1 inning and are on a pitch count. Very possible a few more guys will pull out. If things stay as they are now, the first place Nationals will not have anybody playing as Zimmermann was their lone rep.

Being grammatically correct is a choice. It's one I make on purpose. Perhaps, I'm being facetious towards the idiots who aren't.

Evil Vito 07-13-2014 12:41 AM

Brad Miller struck out looking. He disagreed with the call, but started to walk back to the dugout. Bob Davidson actually followed him, continuing to jaw at him, and the second Miller turned back around Davidson ejected him. What an asshole.

Yankees release Fonsie.

It's been cool. :'(

The Minnesota camera angle is the worst. No concept of the strike zone.

Pretty boring All Star Game but still better than last year's.

The Padres tweeted this picture out after the game:

Cannot fucking believe MLB/FOX didn't do anything for Gwynn during the ASG, his name was not even mentioned once during the broadcast. But hey who cares when you can see Jeter standing in the dugout at least once per half inning.
