Which style of rasslin do you prefer?

Flippy stuff? Chain rasslin? Gimmick matches? Something else I'm not thinking of right now? Which do you like watching most?

Ol Dirty Dastard 12-22-2020 08:32 AM

Excellence of Execution

Bad News Gertner 12-22-2020 08:41 AM

Hmmm. I'm struggling to come up with an answer.
I enjoy all of those types you've mentioned as long as they don't go overboard.

As long as it's entertaining

Shisen Kopf 12-22-2020 09:14 AM

The best rasslin matches are between two superheavyweights. Viscera vs Big Show matches were the best.

Bad News Gertner 12-22-2020 09:16 AM

See now I would enjoy that match.

Shisen Kopf 12-22-2020 09:22 AM

Oh it was great. Van Andel Arena in April 99, Monday night raw. Second best match I've ever seen live after Hogan vs Rock

Shisen Kopf 12-22-2020 09:25 AM

Also, I am a big fan of amateur backyard rasslin. CHW was the best

I remember watching Mark Henry vs. Viscera on heat in like 1998 and I enjoyed it so much.

This is where I sit, I think.

But I feel like flippy stuff has really taken a hold in the last maybe five years (in the US anyway), which can be a bit much for me sometimes.

Shisen Kopf 12-22-2020 10:19 AM

I can't stand the flippy stuff. Its un-American.

xrodmuc316 12-22-2020 01:02 PM

Just solid brawling, power moves, Drew vs Roman from Survivor Series type matches.

DaveWadding 12-22-2020 03:06 PM

Good Lucha Things

Stickman 12-22-2020 04:23 PM

Depends on the storyline and the abilities of the rassler.

Emperor Smeat 12-22-2020 05:39 PM

Guess flippy stuff out of that list but don't really have a strong preference for any one style.

As long as the match is entertaining to watch and flows well from start to finish, could care less about the style of the bout.

I do lean more towards favoring action over in-ring storytelling or theatrics for match quality but that's mainly due to WWE being a lot more miss with the latter over the years.

IC Champion 12-22-2020 06:53 PM

Not big on the flippy stuff, bunch of guys, heels and faces in a football huddle waiting for some idiot to do the 15th dive of the show is so stupid. Nobody’s sells anymore minus some of the better guys. It’s just one move after another that mean next to nothing because nobody sells anything, and it just becomes an acrobatic performance of scripted moves because nobody calls anything in the ring anymore. I enjoy AEW if I am going to watch the current product but sometimes that’s all the show is. And I prefer AEW only because I find WWE to be mostly unwatchable.

Destor 12-22-2020 07:13 PM

a product that appears to imitate sport

This. Recently been discovering old NWA from the 80’s.

IC Champion 12-22-2020 07:16 PM

Any recommendations big D?

Destor 12-22-2020 07:29 PM

without knowing what youve seen or your preferences its hard to say. i think stuff that holds up for modern viewers is tully blanchards work. his stuff with magnum ta is legendary

Ol Dirty Dastard 12-22-2020 07:30 PM

I wish I could enjoy the indy shit going on today but I'm too old and cynical. I think if I was still a younger fan I'd be into it and think it was the best shit ever. But I'm pretty much a less jaded Jim Cornette by this point, which is sad.

Destor 12-22-2020 07:30 PM

thats a pretty general recommendation though based off knowing nothing about what you gravitate to

Barely seen any of it, I’m from Canada and grew up on 90s WWE. I never had TBS growing up, I knew about WCW as a kid, but never started watching that until after Nitro start and the NWO got hot.

I did however watch the Tully and Magnum I quit match just the other night.

Destor 12-22-2020 07:40 PM

i think the wwe network has most if not all of the old clash of chanpions on there. tons of great stuff there

Bad News Gertner 12-22-2020 07:49 PM

What Destor said. Go through the Clashes.

And check out 1983/1984 Mid South

Destor 12-22-2020 07:51 PM

i think you can even watch the build ups if they have wcw saturday night

Mr. Nerfect 12-22-2020 11:00 PM

Stuff that at least tries to have some psychology in there. If I can understand why you’re doing what you’re doing, then I’m going to get into it. That’s REALLY lacking from all the promotions at the moment. New Japan’s main event scene sometimes has it, but then you’ve got guys flipping into their opponents kicks on purpose too.

I prefer the styles of Austin, Bret, Taker, Flair... Those guys who don't rely on crazy high spots but realistic moves and strikes. Realistic in that classic way not nessecarily MMA style. I'm not crazy about fake MMA at all. In AEW, I really like Mox the most.

drave 12-23-2020 09:10 AM

Slobberknockers

Barnburners

Behind-the-shed-whoopins

Yeah that's pretty much it. It all kind of depends on the match itself and circumstance of it for lack of a better word. I don't necessarily have a style preference here

LOL @ dusty being involved with whatever the hottest act is at the time. Just watched Starrcade 88.

Bad News Gertner 12-26-2020 08:15 PM

Dusty was getting boos in 88. He started doing taped promos because he kept getting heckled.

IC Champion 12-26-2020 08:26 PM

Hence why he was teaming with Sting at Starrcade after teaming with and then teaming against in said program with the Road Warriors.

Curtis 12-28-2020 10:56 AM

Gimmick matches are the best.. .especially anything on the pole match!
