Mission Impossible Fallout-8/10

Might be the best one yet. Cast was great all around. Lots of twists and turns. Great set pieces, one after the other. I had grown to love the franchise and this just solidified my admiration for the films.

About to start Ready Player One. Was going to get A Quiet Place but this just looks so much more gratifying.

"Ready Player One" is a lot of fun. How's the internet and access to "video on demand" where you live?

Seanny One Ball 08-14-2018 05:36 PM

There is one moment of ugly exposition that could have been handled a lot better. Spielberg' baddies are always far too wet, also. Just sopping wet pushovers. Good references, not sure kids or most adults would know the name Buckaroo Banzai let alone the suit but it's a definitely a feast for anyone into pop culture fantasies more than real life.

I watch movies my way

GD 08-14-2018 05:47 PM

More power to you, mate. I have around 30 WWE VCDs back home that I am willing to part ways with for free.

Seanny One Ball 08-14-2018 06:24 PM

Are those the really low quality multiple-discs-per-film things?
I have a few of those from Vietnam and The Philippines of things like The Village or that dreadful Winona Ryder horror film and they are a curiosity if nothing else.

Shisen Kopf 08-14-2018 09:24 PM

I saw one of the purge movies. Dont know which one but it was ok. Pretty stupid but entertaining 3.5/7

Yeah! They don't age well but I love the alternate cover art as opposed to the American home video releases. They're sitting in my old room along with my cassettes. I'll probably donate them to a library or just give them away to fans. When I was leaving for grad school, I digitized my entire (American) collection and shipped all the physical copies to a fan who really seemed like he enjoyed wrestling like I did when I was younger.

Hush - Intense! Haven't seen a good horror film in a while. Quality stuff.

I'm looking for recommendations.

Droford 08-18-2018 01:01 AM

Moviepass #86 Mile 22 - 4/10 fight scenes with camera cuts that make Kevin Dunn look conservative, a storyline that was confusing at best but stupid at its worst. Wahlberg felt over dialogued and under actioned. And why the fuck do you get Ronda Rousey to go around shooting people and not fighting ? Still not the worst movie I've seen with MP BUT its bottom 5. Plus the ending clearly set up a sequel which I can only imagine will never get made but who knows.

slik 08-18-2018 02:20 AM

Blackkklansman - 8/10

Good, both lighthearted and serious. Over two hours but doesn't feel like, never dull.

GD 08-18-2018 02:59 AM

The Spy Who Humped Me - Hot garbage

Didn't like it, doesn't work for me. Next.

Stickman 08-18-2018 11:05 AM

Suburbicon 2/10 worst movie I've seen in a long time

Stickman 08-18-2018 11:09 AM

The Hateful 8. 6/10. Probably Tarantino slowest, most uninteresting, anticlimactic movie. If it wasn't for Samual Jackson I probably wouldn't finish it.

Seanny One Ball 08-18-2018 11:26 AM

Suburbicon was decent enough, Hateful Eight was rendered bearable by Walton "Why am I not headlining blockbusters?!" Goggins.

Blue Demon 08-18-2018 03:36 PM

Mission Impossible Fallout: 4.5/5, really fun action movie.

Have you seen any of the following out of curiosity -- SPRING, The Endless and Eyes of My Mother?

I haven't seen any of them. Off to read up on them now.

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-18-2018 05:35 PM

Wind River 8/10

Seanny One Ball 08-18-2018 05:56 PM

Eyes Of My Mother sounds absolutely dreadful. This is the sort of film I actively avoid.

SPRING has Lou Pucci and that guy was wonderful in Thumbsucker, also the plot sounds a lot more entertaining.
The Endless sounds pretty great, I will definitely look for those two.

He was the villain in Tomb Raider but not really the headliner

Seanny One Ball 08-18-2018 09:14 PM

So what you're saying is that your post was 100% wasted energy.

Lazy Scout 08-18-2018 10:02 PM

Star Trek Beyond - 5 out of 10. It just wasn't as good as the first two films.

Seanny One Ball 08-18-2018 11:03 PM

That's a shame you didn't like it. I got crazy vertigo watching the end sequence.

Yeah, I wish I would have liked it more, tbh. It just felt weird, like it didn't belong in the new reboot line? IDK how to describe it. The end sequence was wild though.

slik 08-19-2018 01:41 AM

Crazy Rich Asians -- 8.5/10

Really fun, loved it.

Walton Goggins definitely does not get enough love; he was fantastic in Justified.

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-19-2018 10:54 AM

Equalizer 2 6.5/10

El Vaquero de Infierno 08-19-2018 03:17 PM

A Most Violent Year 7/10

Seanny One Ball 08-21-2018 06:28 AM

Eagle Vs Shark

I may have just seen the sweetest, most honestly incongruous comedy ever made. Too affected by it to review just now. I'm gonna take a nap and think about this uncontaminated fragment of the beautiful weird.
More people should make comedies based on their own personal idiosyncrasies.

Agreed. He has been terrific in everything i have ever seen him in.

Eagle Vs Shark - 4/4

This film feels like it has been built after a lot of acting workshops where the same characters develop into real people over the course of the studio sessions before they're just perfect for the big screen.
People have called this another Napoleon Dynamite but there is so much more to this than a vague similarity to an admittedly brilliant film. This is a bigger film, it has a third dimension in that we get a female perspective of a pathological, absurd charlatan. A ruined man who rejects the positives that the world offers him in preference for the elaborate yet incompetent deceit he has regaled himself and his band of onlookers with.

The heroine Lily is a mouse with no pizzazz. Assuredly a shrinking violet through our first introduction, then quite obviously a fantastic example of positivity against cynicism. She commands every major plot point and yet we feel like we are on somebody else's quest for much of the film.

This film very nearly made me cry, not a rare feat generally speaking these days but for a comedy with a potty mouth, a wicked sense of humour (of abundant laugh-out-loud moments and lines so consistently funny that surely three viewings will still yield a very respectable laugh ratio) and a heart of gold it is unusual. Especially since the scene that did it was an analogous stop motion animation about apples

In summary this is a quirky, irreverent film about some incredibly idiosyncratic people with an undercurrent of deep emotional issues. None of it is cheap, at least it doesn't feel that way to me. I feel like Taika Waititi and Loren Horsley must have really loved these characters. It's warming to see a film with this much attention to character behind it.

Lock Jaw 08-21-2018 02:59 PM

I think I saw that one, but I don't really remember it at all. Did it also have the Flight of the Conchords guy?

Venus Van Dam, anyone? :D

Seanny One Ball 08-21-2018 03:04 PM

Yes indeed. Jemaine Clement plays Jarrod the butt-hole to Loren Horsley's tougher-than-she-looks Lily.

Seanny One Ball 08-21-2018 03:06 PM

Walton Goggins, Sam Rockwell, Ben Foster. They should be in a film together.

Think I def saw it..... only thing I remember is them sitting on a couch or something in Eagle and shark costumes....

Lock Jaw 08-21-2018 04:38 PM

Wonder why my phone autocorrects Eagle to have a capital letter.......
