Until Kalyx actually see's the movie, I dont expect anything from him. I'm not gonna judge him as right or wrong before the movie has actually come out.

I was simply reporting to this thread that the embargo on social media had been lifted and early short reviews seem great.

Damian Rey 2.0 02-21-2019 01:51 AM

Black Panther wasn't perfect and it certainly didn't get 100% positive reviews. Captain Marvel won't either. How that criticism is written might tread lightly. But critics aren't going to give the film a positive review if they didn't like it.

RP 02-21-2019 02:12 AM

Some of these critics on twitter that have been allowed to see the movie and make a social media post, our legit critics. They're not people getting paid to watch this movie. The theory is that they are getting to watch this movie and the studio has a lot of confidence in there movie so they dont mind that they post about it on social media.

Kalyx triaD 02-21-2019 02:55 AM

I'm not worried so much about people paid to say nice things.

Disturbed316 03-09-2019 03:51 AM

Saw it, loved it, hyped for End Game.

Kalyx triaD 03-09-2019 10:38 AM

I really needed to that from a normal person cause the reception has been a swamp of opposing extremes.

Ruien 03-09-2019 06:06 PM

Movie was fucking great.... in the second half. First half seemed like it was mailed in. The second half though was constant rock and roll let's go.

Super hyped for End Game now too.

RP 03-10-2019 12:37 PM

Bree Larson was like a dead fish in a Captain Marvel uniform. If they wanted a dead fish they could of gotten Ellen Page for a lot cheaper.

Seanny One Ball 03-11-2019 12:19 PM

LOL

Fignuts 03-11-2019 09:52 PM

I enjoyed it. Wouldn’t rate it with some of the higher quality marvel movies, but it was well above the worst. Middle of the road. Agree that the second half is better, but I didn’t dislike the first.

Brie does come off as a bit cold at times, but she’s supposed to be a soldier, so expect her to be stoic to some degree. She still shows some fun personality. I voiced my worries that Larson is too “girl next door” to be believable as Carol Danvers, but she ended up being stronger in the role that I had anticipated. They actually did a good job capturing the spirit of the character.

Only criticism
SPOILER: show

Once Carol powers up the tension goes out the window. The movie never establishes an antagonist that is even remotely capable of going toe to toe with her.

WinterDecay 03-12-2019 10:03 AM

Saw it. Movie was fine. I am unfamiliar with Brie Larson in any other of her films but it seemed a lot like she did not want to be there. Not the best Marvel movie, certainly not the worst.

That being said, the girl that I sat next to seemed to enjoy it on a whole other level, so bully for her.

This exactly.

They mary sued her like noone else in this movie.
SPOILER: show
At no time did I ever feel like there was a way that she wouldnt win. The last 20 minutes was basically playing any video game with invincibility on. She destroyed an accuser ship by flying through it. I was hoping she would at least fight Ronan because he has powers, but he turned tail.

Seanny One Ball 03-12-2019 07:34 PM

She's not supposed to be vulnerable yet.

Lock Jaw 03-12-2019 07:36 PM

Just saw it. Another entertaining, but probably forgettable, Marvel movie.

ClockShot 03-12-2019 07:41 PM

I saw it. Pretty good. But I agree with some of the opinions that Brie Larson might have been wrong for the role. See review in last movie thread for details.

Reavant 03-12-2019 07:50 PM

They did some cool things in this movie. They tied up a lot of loose ends, answered some questions and I really liked the skrulls. I just left the movie not feeling satisfied.

Shadow 03-15-2019 08:34 AM

After seeing it I gotta say I enjoyed it a great deal. Was a really great origin story for Captain Marvel. Now for Endgame.

Fignuts 03-16-2019 05:08 PM

Got a case of the feels at that Stan Lee Marvel Studios logo

El Vaquero de Infierno 03-19-2019 02:16 PM

I will be seeing this on Saturday morning; how many end-credit scenes are there?

Fignuts 03-19-2019 02:18 PM

Two. One mid credits and one at the very end. You can probably skip the latter.

Kalyx triaD 04-21-2019 07:51 PM

This was alright. Brie is really not an 'MCU' type actor, but to be fair it's in the way that Dr Strange doesn't do to well selling a joke.

I would not quite right her off as a Mary Sue, though she does have elements of how women are written now. Unlike a certain girl from Jakku, Carol is a trained soldier so whatever combat ability before she goes super sayijin is kinda justified. And after the fact she does show she's giddy about all that power; that super powered splash on that kree ship was cute.

wwe2222 04-21-2019 07:58 PM

Are you still hung up on Rey is a Mary Sue? Wow. Good stuff

Kalyx triaD 04-22-2019 06:43 AM

You're using 'hung up' incorrectly there.

Shadow 04-22-2019 03:27 PM

Not really as you can't seem to believe a person who was raised in a harsh environment might have a bit of fighting skill. You fucking idiot.

Kalyx triaD 04-22-2019 03:51 PM

Learning to rough up some vandals =/= Beating a fucking Sith Lord

Seanny One Ball 04-22-2019 06:53 PM

Maybe they were Sith vandals.

Sandals.

Kalyx triaD 04-22-2019 07:13 PM

Vith.

Seanny One Ball 04-22-2019 07:16 PM

Mike Tyson trying to say "this"

Fignuts 04-22-2019 07:54 PM

They did explain in Last Jedi that killing his father mentally broke him, instead of being the intended completion of his training, and that's why he lost to an amateur.

Most of Rey's ability can be attributed to surviving on her own on a harsh, combative world. Luke said that her and Kylo both have unatrually strong affinity for the force, and I'm guessing we'll learn more about that in the final film. Wouldn't be surprised if she was actually a skywalker, and the "your parent's were no one" was only true "from a certain point of view".

So yeah, never really bought into Rey as a Mary Sue. Plenty of other problems with the movies though.

Kalyx triaD 04-23-2019 01:54 AM

Luke and Anakin Skywalker, the latter a Force freak of nature, lost their first big lightsaber duels. Maybe Vader gets a pass and Dokuu is just that good, but the narrative precedent appears to be that one doesn't become badass even after some formal training in the Jedi arts.

I don't care how emo Kylo is or what type of shot he got from Chewie's gun - a formally trained Jedi/Sith is not losing to a 'school of hard knocks' type person. That's asking a lot.
