Breaking: Dean Ambrose leaving WWE confirmed (Update - Pg. 2)

Biggest news story Wade Keller has broken in some time

Quote:

Dean Ambrose, a main event wrestler for WWE since debuting with The Shield in 2012, has given his notice to WWE that he will be finishing up when his current contract expires at the end of April, according to three PWTorch sources. He broke the news to management this weekend, including directly in a meeting with Vince McMahon, after being offered a new contract and a raise weeks ago.

He is expected to finish up shortly after WrestleMania, although it’s possible WWE would write him out of storylines sooner. This could explain why he was rather unceremoniously eliminated from the Royal Rumble on Sunday night and did a clean job to Seth Rollins on TV on Raw last night.

Sources tell PWTorch that Ambrose has been long frustrated with the creative direction of his character and reached a breaking point recently. He’s indicated to WWE management this weekend he’s not interested in negotiating further and made it clear this isn’t about trying to get more money. One of his colleagues on the roster, when asked tonight about Dean’s demeanor lately and if there were any signs of discontent, said “he’s pretty much impossible to read.” He added, though, that Dean “hates hokey sh–” and, since so much of his character has been portrayed as hokey in the last few years, he’s not surprised that would have built up frustration leading to a breaking point.

Top management in WWE and a small circle of friends of Dean knew about his decision this weekend, but it wasn’t well known at the Rumble or Raw among most of his colleagues.

the benefit WWE has with Ambrose going to AEW is that they've murdered him dead, so nobody will care.

I doubt that. He's nowhere near Dolph Ziggler territory.

erickman 01-29-2019 05:08 AM

he was one of the more pushed guys, that was a surprise. his contract was up at the right time an good places to make money. wonder what other big surprise contracts are about up. I do not see aj styles leaving

Droford 01-29-2019 05:37 AM

This feels more like an angle continue off last night.

Danny Electric 01-29-2019 06:06 AM

They completely screwed up what could have been the biggest rivalry of last year/going into this year and to be fair he hasn’t looked like he’s totally into it which hasn’t helped with the quality of his matches or promos.
Makes sense for him to leave with good money to be made outside of WWE now.

I had a weird feeling something was up last night when he was still in the ring and he started saying "When I first signed with WWE....." then Nia Jax's music hit.

Evil Vito 01-29-2019 08:00 AM

Not sure he’ll go to AEW. For some reason I have a weird feeling he might just be done with wrestling altogether.

Bad News Gertner 01-29-2019 08:09 AM

He's terrible

rez 01-29-2019 08:37 AM

I wonder when Renee's contract is up?

He's been booked like shit for a long time, surprised his fire lasted as long as it did.

Bad News Gertner 01-29-2019 09:13 AM

His selling is atrocious. It's never gotten better.

Jordan 01-29-2019 09:51 AM

Very excited by this news. For AEW, NJPW, Or ROH to get one of the top WWE stars is HUGE. Going ahead to assume that he won’t wind up in Impact.

slik 01-29-2019 09:54 AM

When everyone was out injured, I thought the time period where Dean was the top face and Seth was the top heel in WWE was pretty fantastic.

It wasn't until around WM32 when Brock decided he wasn't interested in his match w/ Dean that things started to cool off a bit for Dean. Shame too, because Brock vs Dean could have been terrific if Brock had felt up for it.

Evil Vito 01-29-2019 10:02 AM

lol the way he sold the Curb Stomp on Raw were the actions of a man that doesn't give a shit

xrodmuc316 01-29-2019 10:05 AM

Good, maybe if enough guys leave for this exact reason WWE writers will stop being so lazy and booking everybody as one dimensional.

Also though, I think Droford might be right. The fact that during the commercial break he was still doing his "I need a shower cause of you dirty Phoenix people" seems out of place if he is out the door.

I am skeptical, but excited either way, him gone to AEW would be another huge get for them, or if this is an angle maybe they can make an interesting story out of it.

I honestly don't think the writers are lazy. I just think the turnover rate is so high it's impossible to maintain any form of continuity, plus what they do doesn't really matter because Vince usually just changes everything.

At the end of the day, half of the roster could leave and nothing will change because at 70-plus-years-old, the guy who makes the decisions is set in his ways.

That is also true, but I can't imagine the writers are coming up with a bunch of good stuff and Vince is shutting them down left and right. If anything the writers aren't trying to come up with anything good, and just doing generic stuff because it's easy.

I forget which former WWE wrestler said it not long ago, but someone said aside from like 3 writers the rest don't do anything at all, are just yes men.

Did you miss how he got eliminated from the rumble? It was like a piece out of michaels vs hogan.

Loose Cannon 01-29-2019 11:21 AM

wow, i was pretty shocked to read this today. you hear of the mid card guys leaving all the time, but this one is pretty crazy because i know they offered him a ton of money to resign. Good for him though. he can go anywhere he wants and get paid and will have much more liberties outside of the E.

Ever since Ambrose started wearing the tank tops and doing the bland babyface shtick is when i tired of him. he just hasn't beenthe same since then. and it's a shame because i know he's the type of guy that can come up with his own material and kill it out there. the writers failed him.

Nicky Fives 01-29-2019 11:24 AM

Makes alot of sense after seeing how he was eliminated at Royal Rumble....

I'm convinced he doesn't know how to sell. He either doesn't sell at all or over-exaggerates.

I think you've brainwashed me but I fully agree. There's a reason Ambrose comes up short performance-wise ALL THE TIME on the big stage.

Evil Vito 01-29-2019 12:46 PM

Hey now, Ambrose sold the Curb Stomp for over 15 minutes to close out a live show a few months ago. Just straight up laid face down in the ring as the crew deconstructed around him lol

Sepholio 01-29-2019 01:08 PM

You guys are being worked lol

worked or not -- I still don't care about Dean Ambrose.

Lock Jaw 01-29-2019 01:26 PM

I cared about Dean Ambrose until his recent heel turn and change of look/character, which has killed him off so much for me that I no longer care when he is on screen or care to see him.

Evil Vito 01-29-2019 01:35 PM

Yeah some guys really need a change of scenery, and Ambrose is one of them.

RiX1024 01-29-2019 02:32 PM

Oh well, I have to find a new favourite now after he goes, looking forward to see Jon Moxley tearing AEW or Impact apart

Bad News Gertner 01-29-2019 03:10 PM

He just doesn't have the "it" factor. His level is where he's at.

harmsway 01-29-2019 03:15 PM
