Grabbing my copy after work today then will probably be playing all day tomorrow since the weather is supposed to suck and I have no work.

So excited.

I went and picked it up today. Though I see the utility in gamepass, I'm not sold on it personally. Too much I'd never play for the extra monthly scratch. That said, I was happy to go buy a physical disc for this in show of support for what they're doing, and will do so whenever I can - like when the next Wasteland drops.

Ran the install tonight. Hopefully, I will have time to start on it tomorrow. If not, Monday for sure.

I might feel a little different about it if they make an annual option for Ultimate Pass. As it stands, it's monthly, and I don't do monthly. I buy a year or a 12 +1 live card. Microsoft doesn't need my credit card info.

Sepholio 10-27-2019 03:42 AM

This is what Fallout wishes it was at this point.

ClockShot 10-27-2019 05:37 PM

Started up today. Having a blast.

I feel like I need to grab a guide for this game. If, one is produced. Got the feeling I'm missing a lot of stuff exploring and mission wise.

mitchables 10-27-2019 10:51 PM

this pretty much sums up my feelings so far

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="und" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/TheOuterWorlds?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#TheOuterWorlds</a> <a href="https://t.co/jTsnw9el0n">pic.twitter.com/jTsnw9el0n</a></p>&mdash; wicked mitch of the west (@mitchables) <a href="https://twitter.com/mitchables/status/1188605800844943361?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 27, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Tom Guycott 10-28-2019 12:23 AM

I have to preface this with the statement that I like where this game is going. I'm about to say some shit that makes it look like I don't like this game thus far, and this isn't the case.I didn't really have time to dive into this with any quality playtime. Just the creation (which took awhile partially because of something I'll address in a moment and partially because I was trying to hear all the variations of the flavor dialogue when I was cycling through point distribution options) and the rock corridor path getting to the ship.

I have two complaints: one - some of the first NPCs I met disappeared. I figured I got them amped up either clear my path or get comically slaughtered, but instead, they started shooting, then vanished mid battle. Not killed; they just teleported out of existence, and then the assailants turned their attention to me like they were never there. Guessing it won't really matter in the long run, but I'm hoping this won't be a recurring issue that borks the game hours in.

Two - and this is something that is plaguing gaming as a whole - is that there needs to be a goddamn option to make the font bigger. Not everyone is on a gaming PC or otherwise two feet away from the screen. My consoles are across the living room. I'm in a comfy chair. I don't want to get up and walk halfway to the television to attempt to read the tutorials or subtitles or flavor text or anything else you decide the player needs to read. There are games that I have stopped playing or couldn't even really start (looking at Neverwinter) because of this nonsense.

Seriously, this is an easily addressable problem, but few even bother. The only game I play that I can even think of that makes it fixable is Warframe (they even go so far as to let you change the size of various portions of the HUD independently, let alone the chat window and menu fonts). Like custom button mapping on console, or increasingly more often screen centering (which seems to be an option being REMOVED over time. Makes no sense that I can't see part of a HUD or dialogue box because they didn't think about the fact that that all screens aren't equal and won't let me adjust the borders) this is something that can be addressed in adding like one more settings menu option... and it's just... not.

Speaking of button mapping, interesting that when trying to figure out the controls that the tutorial does a halfass job at even in the tiny font, there are hotkeys on the chatpad. I don't know if this is just a side effect of the pad being an analogue for an actual desktop keyboard or if it was intentionally done, but either way, that's good. Too bad I found out by randomly pushing buttons while trying to change weapons on the fly instead of the game saying "hey, here's a thing you can do".

I feel like I should say something positive out of obligation now, but I'm not going to. I really really want to like this game, and I haven't gotten far enough to make any true judgments yet. But this font thing pisses me off so much ever since the first Dead Rising "you need to get a newer TV" thing from the last gen.

Sepholio 10-28-2019 08:31 AM

...and that's exactly why I sit 2 feet away from a 43 inch monitor lmao

It's the same issue in every game too. For some reason dev's haven't figured out that maybe they should increase the resolution of the "gameplay" independently of the UI.

The more egregious variation of this same issue for me is playing PC games in UHD. If there isn't an option to increase the size of the mouse pointer then you are screwed in some games. I can't tell you how many times I've lost the mouse pointer in the middle of a heated battle in diablo-clone type games and can't find it at all because of all the effects whizzing around.

Sepholio 10-28-2019 08:32 AM

Pretty much just furiously click and hope for the best in those situations.

Sepholio 10-28-2019 08:34 AM

The science weapons in this game are absolutely hilariously bonkers btw. Wish there were more of them. The mandibular rearranger might be my favorite melee weapon ever in any game.

ClockShot 10-30-2019 07:32 PM

Save often, fellas.

Was wrapping up business on the Groundbreaker and I got back to my ship. Made the rounds and talked to the crew. Talked to Max up in the crew lounge/kitchen, and here comes Parvati coming through the floor climbing an invisible ladder.

Must have been the ladder to heaven because some "doom" music played and somehow, she died. Like, permadeath because it cancelled her side quest and put it in the botched list.

Anyway, reloaded the last auto save and tried again and everything's fine now.

Sepholio 10-30-2019 08:20 PM

Haha wait until you run into unintended consequences from something you did waaaaay earlier that seemed totally unrelated at the time lol.

First playthrough done. Only real gripe is that I need moar :(

Gonna start another playthrough and go for the true psycho route. Going to kill everyone and everything and brute force my way through the campaign and see what happens.

dronepool 10-30-2019 11:56 PM

Love it

Sepholio 10-31-2019 03:21 PM

I can't explain to you how much I love this game. I hope they are taking notes for the next Fallout or any other similar game.

Whatever Microsoft wants now.

Sepholio 10-31-2019 04:57 PM

I mean I hope other companies are taking notes from them to make their games better. I have no worries about Obsidian, they've been making fire games for awhile now.

ClockShot 11-03-2019 06:28 PM

Anybody come across the Jameson glitch on Roseway? Apparently there's no way around it.

May have to put the brakes on this and wait for a proper patch comes out. Between this and the glitch I posted above, don't want to go any further and get screwed out of some things.

Sepholio 11-03-2019 10:41 PM

I never encountered the glitch but there is for sure a way around it. My sidequesting led me to a very similar situation later on down the line. There is ALWAYS a way to progress. You just might not like the outcome.

there's no glitch. the quest is built so if you take too long to rescue him or do side stuff instead, he dies. he was alive and dandy for me /shrug

see here for more

mitchables 11-04-2019 07:23 PM

i've just finished the monarch quests. seriously love this game. parvati remains my constant companion, with the second slot going to either nyoka (standard fallback, she's good in combat, and her flavour convos with parvati are v sweet and pure) or whoever's quest i'm doing at a given moment. ellie and felix getting the least amount of play for me though. just haven't taken a shine to them like i have the other four

a few storyline/choice spoilers below

SPOILER: show
i went into this game fully expecting to just outright dismantle space capitalism but societal reform is never quick, so i've ended up compromising a bunch, which the game paints as being the "best"/"right" outcome, but i still feel kinda shitty about

like i ended up shutting off the power to the deserters on terra 2, but i also got rid of the shitty manager in edgewater, so adelaide and her people returned home. seemed better than shutting off power to the town and leaving the people to die, given how militantly anti-spacer's choice adelaide turned out to be (she wouldn't have given refuge to all the townspeople), and it also seemed better than shutting off power to the deserters and leaving old mate in charge

same story on monarch - ended up doing right by both msi (sanjar seems misguided but well-intentioned enough, and at least he still appears to care about reforms) and the iconoclasts, but i also deposed/killed graham because he was a religious loon and a murderer focused on spreading his message instead of feeding his people. so i managed to get msi and the iconoclasts to work together in the end

that's where i find the choices hard, though, because fundamentally i want to dismantle the corporations - but it's impossible to do that outright without hurting towns worth of innocent people.

also it would make parvati sad, so

Nah. I opened the door and there he was alive and well. Game tells me he was ripped to pieces. He ran out the door and everything. Followed him out, went back inside, went back to the room, and there's a body with no head and no arm.

It's glitched.

mitchables 11-04-2019 10:34 PM

i dunno what to tell you man, that didn't happen for me or most other players it would seem. very little discussion about it anywhere afaics

happily stand corrected on the 'it's not glitched' front though; clearly some users are getting some kind of stupid glitch with this quest - just seems to be the exception, not the rule

Destor 11-04-2019 10:55 PM

Thats how bugs work. Theyre jank. If they werent jank they wouldnt have made it past play testing. Doesnt mean its not real.

That's been an ingrained lesson since the days of the original Playstation. Learned it hardway from FFVII, where I made it to the North Cave and lost my persistent save. The last one that I had was all the way back on disc 1 at Wall Market when I was trying to see how the Don made his selection. That was the first true start of my save system trust issues.

It's multiple manual saves for me, even with games that have an autosave. Not going to menton how much drive space is eaten up by Skyrim saves...

ClockShot 11-10-2019 07:51 AM

Fired this up last night, then I said "Oh, wait. The patch is coming"

Update 1.1.1.0 should be going up sometime this week to fix the following:

Resolved Issues:
• The crashing issue in Tartarus
• Increase Font Size - Conversations/Subtitles
• Muffled sound effects occur at random times for players on the PS4
• Companions dying and failing companion quests on modes other than Supernova
• Unable to finish "Radio Free Monarch"
• Trophy "Not the Best Choice" fails to unlock properly

I'm in the midst of the Radio Free Monarch quest so I'll wait until this goes live.

mitchables 11-10-2019 07:03 PM

finished this over the weekend. so good. i think i managed to get myself the best possible ending i could, but i had to intentionally botch a quest to do so

SPOILER: show
so it turns out getting the deserters to return to edgewater was the "right" move - but installing adelaide as the leader wasn't, and it matters in a big way later in the game because that makes the adjutant in byzantium give you a quest to kill everyone in edgewater; if you refuse the quest, she (and consequently the entire corporate presence in byzantium) aggroes and you have to murder your way out. BUT if i'd left reed in charge, she wouldn't have given that quest, and everyone lives.

i managed to flub my way into a happy ending there by accepting but not completing the adjutant's quest. i had to assuage parvati's concerns ("trust me" seemed the best/only real option that didn't sound like it was immediately dismissing her) but the quest auto-failed as soon as i skipped the hope to terra 2 - so other than missing out on the other quests the adjutant gives, that seems to be the best workaround if you put adelaide in charge of edgewater and don't want to kill everyone there or in byzantium.

My run of shifts is about to come to an end, and I will (presumably) be back on my normal schedule, so hopefully when this update happens (major patches and updates seem to usually hit on Tuesdays), I will be in prime position to take advantage of, you know, being able to read shit.

In the scheme of things, I really haven't done much. But I also want to savor this dish, since it apparently isn't very long. I've played enough to be punished for something I love doing, though. Bastards.

ClockShot 11-16-2019 08:09 AM

Patch 1.1.1.0 goes live on Monday.

Okay, I can wait to get back in it until then.

ClockShot 12-08-2019 11:26 AM

Finished my first run through the game.

Does anybody else besides me feel like there some have been a lot more...………..game?

I felt like I paid $60 for half a game. Like, someone at the last second before the game went gold deleted a lot of stuff and this is what we got.

I got a ton questions. From will there be DLC to how in the fuck to you play Tossball?

I did manage to knock out all of the combat related trophies. So, all I got to grab is the difficulty and mission related ones, too.

mitchables 12-11-2019 08:14 PM

possible that bits of the game got cut off for you depending on choices/order you did things?

i felt like it was long enough considering it was cheaper than a standard aaa title

60 bucks is a bargain regardless to me tbh - in aus the standard price for a new video game (ps4/pc/xbox one) is $99.95 ($79.95 for the switch)

think outer worlds was $89.95 for us

Sepholio 12-12-2019 05:21 AM

I signed up for games pass just to play this one. It was 1 dollar for the first month too which was awesome.

ClockShot 12-13-2019 07:50 PM

So, Obsidian announced that story related DLC is coming in 2020.

Okay. I'm interested. Answers one of my many questions.
