Shad Gaspard missing after being pulled out to sea

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">I'm speechless. I've been crying since I saw this. Saved his 10 year old before being pulled out by the riptide. Fuck.

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-18-2020 01:02 PM

damn that sucks.

Mr. Nerfect 05-18-2020 04:34 PM

Oh fuck. That's tragic. I was reading a few years ago how he foiled a bank robbery. Dude married a fitness model and seemed to have life by the balls after getting a pretty raw deal from WWE.

GD 05-18-2020 06:00 PM

This is heartbreaking.

Seanny One Ball 05-18-2020 06:01 PM

Tugboat must be the number one suspect here as he is forever pulling things out to sea.

GD 05-18-2020 06:23 PM

They’ve stopped looking for him. No hope.

Continue to be optimistic maybe he's just auditioning for Castaway 2.

you guys are dark as hell

xrodmuc316 05-18-2020 09:03 PM

Sucks, I remember him all the way back from Tough Enough. Sadly if they don't get rescued in a few minutes, you just hope for a recovery of his body for his family's sake.

Vastardikai 05-18-2020 09:12 PM

Vince sent his condolences to the family of Darren Young. :shifty:

Officials ended up calling off the search around 4PM today.

This is what the weather was like earlier today at the beach during the search efforts.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">LA County Sheriff’s divers just resumed the search for 10-year-old boy’s father who was caught in strong rip currents yesterday. <a href="https://twitter.com/TMZ?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@TMZ</a> confirms father as 39-year-old former WWE Superstar Shad Gaspard. <a href="https://twitter.com/WWE?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@WWE</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/FOXLA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@FOXLA</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/GDLA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@GDLA</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/LASDHQ?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@LASDHQ</a> <a href="https://t.co/6gX4cZdyC7">pic.twitter.com/6gX4cZdyC7</a></p>&mdash; Mario Ramirez (@MarioFOXLA) <a href="https://twitter.com/MarioFOXLA/status/1262408203507077121?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 18, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

DAMN iNATOR 05-19-2020 12:04 AM

Well, if he is gone, he damn sure went out a hero. :(

Anybody Thrilla 05-19-2020 10:43 AM

This is really awful news. Can't believe some of your are making such shitty jokes. I've seen people more heartbroken about drug overdoses from our 'heroes' around here. Dude goes out a hero and gets reduced to some unfunny banter.

Yeah, I know, none of us know him, people die every day, that's what we do around here, blah blah blah. Still pretty shitty.

Couldn't imagine being his ten year old son right about now.

GD 05-19-2020 11:50 AM

I cannot fathom what his son must be going through.

Savio 05-19-2020 01:01 PM

This is pretty sad :(

Evil Vito 05-19-2020 01:29 PM

Ugh :(

Vastardikai 05-19-2020 01:58 PM

My joke was more on the fact that Vince is out of touch.

Anybody Thrilla 05-19-2020 03:04 PM

It's the funniest one, for whatever that's worth.

Mr. Nerfect 05-19-2020 03:15 PM

People deal with shit in different ways. And none of us actually knew the man. Hushed tones and pasted on humility can come off grating to people too. I don’t think anyone is genuinely happy that this happened to the guy. Cryme Tyme didn’t suck that bad.

Bad News Gertner 05-19-2020 03:17 PM

I'm still amazed that they never won the tag belts. Especially in that era.

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-19-2020 03:22 PM

good for Noid, actually talking sense for once.

Seriously. The crowd was always hot for them. But they couldn't seem to help themselves but throw the tag belts on two singles guys.....same shit they still do in 2020.

Evil Vito 05-19-2020 03:33 PM

I saw Cryme Tyme at WrestleCon last year. I knew Shad was a huge dude of course but I was blown away at how big JTG was in person considering he was one of the smallest guys on the main roster his whole time there. I dunno if he'd bulked up since he'd left or if that's just perspective on how big a lot of the roster really are.

Anybody Thrilla 05-19-2020 03:37 PM

Did Cryme Tyme have a tag title match with Jerishow at like Summerslam 09 or something like that? I remember one time where it really felt like they were about to take the straps, but they just...didn't.

Damian Rey 2.0 05-19-2020 04:43 PM

Think they had a #1 contender spot that they never cashed in on for whatever reason.

I think this explains your failure to break the big time as a comedian pretty nicely.
You couldn't come up with anything so you just lean into the old "freedom of expression as long as it's what I want to express" bullshit.

This is the internet bro, if this fucker wanted my respect in death he should have won 5 titles, gotten away with a rape and taken the kid out with him in a swirling vortex of exploding machinery.

Seanny One Ball 05-19-2020 05:53 PM

Please do us a favour and post some funny banter so in future I know what it looks like.

Cheers.

Some new details regarding the initial rescue attempt that managed to safely rescue Gaspard's son.

The lifeguard who first responded to Shad and his son at around 4pm local time on Sunday, between 50 and 70 yards off the shore, said the Gaspards were caught in a strong rip current, enveloped in what's called an "impact zone."

"The best way I can describe it," said Kenichi Haskett, Section Chief of the LA County Fire Department - Lifeguard Division who personally debriefed the lifeguard. "is like being inside a front-loading washing machine. The waves keep crashing on you, pushing you down. ... I've been through that, those kind of rescues. You think you might die."

This was the first weekend where Los Angeles County opened its beaches since the coronavirus stay-at-home order was issued. Swells were 6 feet and the current was fast, water was choppy due to bad weather. Shad and his son were now 200 yards north of where the lifeguard first spotted them. The lifeguard tried to deliver a "rescue can" (small buoy-like device to tow distressed swimmers back to shore) to Shad and his son, but the boy was unable to secure it due to the size of the waves.

The lifeguard, who also has a middle school-aged son, was now presented with an excruciating dilemma as he recognized how big Shad was - 6 foot 6 inches, around 270 pounds.

"Based on the gentlemen's size and the conditions in the water...," Haskett said, "these are choices we do not want to make."

The lifeguard reported that Shad told him to rescue his son first. "Take my son," Shad said.

Less than three minutes later, Shad's son was safe on the shore, physically unharmed but deeply distraught.

"Dad told me to push off to the guy," Shad's son told Steve Smith, a firefighter-paramedic from Rescue 63 in Venice. Shad's son kept saying that: "Dad told me to push off to the guy."

The lifeguard then turned back to make a quick return to the ocean, and saw Shad again.

"A wave pushed him under in the impact zone," said Haskett. "He didn't resurface after that."

MSNBC is reporting he died of Corona virus.

I really hope the kid doesn't internalize this as somehow being his fault.

It's rough for a kid, but hopefully the message he takes from it is his father loved him so much he gave his life for him.

I hope Shad was able to see that his son was safe before being pulled under the water.

JTG was always billed as something like 6'1 and 235lbs. He was a jacked dude. Shad just made him look smaller, I think.
