Also teasing Callis as an announcer for the show which I'm not sure why you need one unless it was being streamed somewhere. I'd be fine with Punk joining Callis on commentary but I have no desire to see him wrestle, Real1 though I wouldn't mind seeing.

Jordan 06-11-2018 11:38 AM

Being the Elite sucks, I don't know how this show built up so much hype.

Simple Fan 06-11-2018 11:40 AM

Being the Elite is pretty damn good in my opinion. Has done a better job of pushing storylines than ROH TV has.

Well I said that as I was watching it and then Cody came on and he was great. Cody is great.

Simple Fan 06-11-2018 11:52 AM

Oh yeah show got alot better when he joined the cast.

Emperor Smeat 06-13-2018 08:01 PM

According to Chris Jericho, there were plans for him to be involved with this event but he turned down the offer due to money reasons. Cody and the Bucks' offer was a lot lower than what he usually asks for bookings.

Jericho mentioned during a recent interview that his usual asking price is in the "six figures" range which would have made him like 5x more expensive as a minimum to get than Rey Mysterio.

#1-norm-fan 06-14-2018 01:31 AM

I thought he said he turned it down because he doesn't wanna do shows in the US for anyone other than Vince. Same reason he won't wrestle at the New Japan Cow Palace show.

That's exactly what he said, Smeat just hears what he wants and passes it off as the truth.

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-14-2018 08:32 AM

Though if Japan is giving him 6 figures per match I see no reason to accept anything less.

Jordan 06-14-2018 08:41 AM

I like ALL IN better without Jericho, I want to see a read underdog show pull off a great event.

That was another reason as well from the same interview. He doesn't want to do either event because it could potentially hurt his guaranteed meal ticket with the WWE and because he asks for a lot of money to work more than he wants to.

Just wanted to include some perspective on how expensive Jericho would have been for this show if he's legit serious about being paid "six figures" minimum for his appearances and Rey usually asking in the $20k range for his appearances.

Mr. Nerfect 06-14-2018 07:21 PM

Don Callis is an awful announcer.

Fignuts 06-14-2018 07:45 PM

When he starts heeling it up, yeah he's pretty bad. But I've found that when he's taking a more serious play by play approach he's very good. Points out details and follows the action really well. He leaned more that direction during Dominion and at times even overshadowed Kevin Kelly in the role, and I thought the show was better for it.

I think what makes him worse is that he thinks he's god's gift to announcing.

Lord Cyrus' promo on Keepin' it 100 with Konnan this week where he petitioned to get into the Keepin' it 100 Hall of Fame alongside Ted Irvine was epic.

I haven't watched all of Dominion yet, but he fucking sucked at that show. "He won't be able to hit the Superkick..." *half-a-second later* "Superkiiick." He was also making lots of insider references. Fuck that guy.

Mr. Nerfect 06-15-2018 07:48 AM

He is funny on Lance Storm's podcast -- I'll give him that. I just don't want him anywhere near the announcing booth. Kevin Kelly sounded okay, but sometimes there was dead air or he would make a vacuous comment.

Jordan 06-15-2018 09:30 AM

Man I just watched Cody at Dominion.... he didn't come off like the next top contender for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. I'm quite positive he won't win that belt, but he's got an ROH title shot and then an NWA Championship shot... it's just going to cheapen ALL IN when he loses to Kenny.

Jordan 06-15-2018 09:31 AM

I really do like Cody especially as a wrestling character actor but in the ring he isn't as good as a Naito, Omega, or Okada. He's quite below that.

If they go the "free" route then I hope they get a live broadcast on AXS.

Simple Fan 06-21-2018 06:40 PM

JimmyMess 06-21-2018 07:00 PM

I will pay for this.

erickman 06-21-2018 07:07 PM

they need to put a twitch camera on josh Mathews and let him film starcast, then set up the twitch cameras for the event.

Emperor Smeat 07-03-2018 06:14 PM

Seems WWE's efforts going after this event are starting to pay off for them.

Already managed to get Deonna Purrazzo pulled due to her signing a deal with them earlier and not being allowed to finish this for any leftover indie commitments.

Rey Mysterio and Chelsea Green (Laurel Van Ness in Impact) are expected to pull out within the near future as well.

Mr. Nerfect 07-04-2018 07:52 AM

Those are honestly improvements for the show, save for Rey.

Jordan 07-04-2018 07:40 PM

Yeah if they pull Rey that stinks but I’m sure they can just get someone else awesome to replace him. The others I don’t even know or care about.

Destor 07-04-2018 07:44 PM

Rey is one of the top free agents there is. He's not really replaceable.

Mr. Nerfect 07-04-2018 08:10 PM

I'm sure the WWE will put the pressure on Rey to drop out, but to be honest, I see him staying on the card. I can see him having enough of a "boys first" attitude and has enough of a history clashing with Vince on certain things that he'll keep the date. I think it's more the indy talent that have never been there that are more likely to take the money and run. Rey also wanted to leave in the first place, and has no doubt been welcome back for a long, long time. I'd be more surprised to see him take a deal and say "See ya!" as he's running out the door.

More so than replacing Rey, if he is kept off the show, I think that at least babyfaces Cody and co. 99% of the audience would be smart enough to realize how the WWE has tried to sabotage them. It could end up being a skeleton crew and the crowd will probably not hold it against them, although it damages them advertising anything next time.

Losing Purrazzo is also a big blow considering she's supposedly one of the best female stars in the indies and someone ROH regarded very highly enough to regain interest in women's wrestling.

Destor 07-04-2018 08:22 PM

She isnt a draw. Theyll be fine.

I honestly thought she was a Tough Enough girl. I don't think there is that much interest in ROH let alone women's wrestling in ROH. They could probably just get Tenille Dashwood to come out and do a t-shirt spot and no one would notice a thing.

She worked for the WWE a few years ago in NXT but mostly as a jobber. Then came back for last year's MYC but wasn't used in the tournament and left again.

ROH saw enough in her as a potential big star that they revived their women's division after signing her and laid the foundation for their eventual partnership with Stardom and Women of Honor championship belt. Only other female star with as much importance to ROH's women division in recent years is Sumie Sakai.

I hear what you're saying, but I think we disagree on the semantics of "big star." And I think you're putting the cart before the horse in relation to them basing this division around her. Are you sure it's a case of "This Purrazzo woman is AMAZING! We NEED to build an entire division around HER!" and not "We're going to do something with women. Which women are available to us?" And if she was that valuable, wouldn't she be under some sort of fixed contract? I knew that ROH finally got a women's champion, but I didn't realize that it was drawing them any big money or anything.

Destor 07-04-2018 09:48 PM
