Yet Another One...:

In the world of Marvel Comics, a new Spider-Man villain debuts this Summer. His origin is pretty vague other than... well he wants to kill Spidey. Meet Anti-Venom!

http://comicsmedia.ign.com/comics/im...1090028356.jpg

Is he Symbiote based? If so who's under that suit? Note that Eddie Brock also returns in the Spidey books. Whether or not he'll return as Venom is anybody's guess.

Hey, every now and then I gotta report on comic going-ons. Today's comic plots are the future's movie sequels.

Lock Jaw 05-04-2008 05:14 PM

Spider-Man comics are just one big mess now.

Reavant 05-04-2008 06:39 PM

is spiderman still back in time? or has he come back to his present day self?

Lock Jaw 05-04-2008 07:13 PM

He didn't go back in time, his whole reality was rewritten... and it remains that way.

Hmmm maybe this character will be the main villian in the new Spiderman game they are working on.

right so there hasnt been a hint of it being changed to the normal way at all? and does that mean that the anti venom is showing up in the new reality or is this a different set of story lines?

U-Warrior 05-05-2008 09:17 AM

I'm fine with the mary jane break up, because that creates a lot of new story possibilities, but I see no reason for the retcon shit.

Swear to god, havn't enjoyed spidey since the early 90's.

Avengers in 2011! May. 5, 2008

http://joblo.com/avengers-in-2011

Source: Yahoo! Finance by: Mike Sampson

Marvel Entertainment held its shareholder webcast this morning where they announced some pretty interesting information regarding their upcoming slate. Included is confirmation that IRON MAN 2 is on the fast track for an April 30, 2010 release (summer officially begins in April now!) and THE AVENGERS in July, 2011. Also on the release schedule are THOR (June 4, 2010) and THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICAN (May 6, 2011). While Zak Penn is writing THE AVENGERS and Matthew Vaughn is developing THOR, there is no talent attached yet to CAPTAIN AMERICA though you can expect that to change soon enough. The announcement comes just three days after IRON MAN opened and has already pulled in over $200 million worldwide to the 2nd highest non-sequel opening in history. Also came news of plenty of other properties including video games, direct-to-DVD and animated TV series. ANT MAN was also confirmed as being in development (with Edgar Wright attached to write and direct) but no release date was announced. You can read a full summary of the webcast at Yahoo! Finance. So what Avengers line-up can we expect to see in the series?

Rammsteinmad 05-05-2008 02:59 PM

That Anti-Venom looks sick! Though UK continuity is about 2 years behind America. We're currently going throught the "Other" storyline, with Civil War coming up fairly soon. Can't wait to see this guy though. Been reading about current storylines on Wikipedia, not liking the sounds of the whole reality change thing... but sooner or later you know it'll go back to the way it was. :y:

Indifferent Clox 05-05-2008 03:09 PM

civil war is so amazing.

Kalyx triaD 05-05-2008 05:31 PM

You will love Civil War.

U-Warrior 05-05-2008 06:36 PM

As awesome as Civil War is, secret invasion looks to be the best of all.

I guess Bendis has been planting the seeds for this since Avengers Dissassembled, and every crossover since, has been leading to this.

Lock Jaw 05-05-2008 06:42 PM

Civil War was meh. Annihilation was so much better.

Danny Electric 05-05-2008 08:07 PM

Civil War already came out in the UK. About a year ago or less.

Indifferent Clox 05-05-2008 08:34 PM

whoa wait? what? Secret Invasion?

U-Warrior 05-05-2008 11:30 PM

Buy Secret Invasion #1, clox. It's out now.

Just as a set up, in a recent New Avengers issue, it was revealed that Electra was a skrull. No one knows how long, but at the time she controlled the japanese underworld.

In the final issue of the illumanati mini series, Black Bolt was also revealed to be a skrull. Seems its been a huge plan that started after the kree-skrull war in the 70's.

Thats the set up.

First issue will blow your mind.

U-Warrior 05-05-2008 11:33 PM

Like I said, Avengers Dissassembled, Secret War(modern one), House of M, and Civil War, are all connected, and Secret Invasion is the finale that puts all the pieces together.

The entire new avengers run, with hydra and shield rotting from the inside, is also a big part I'm guessing. Probably skrulls responible for the sabotage.

Indifferent Clox 05-06-2008 01:05 AM

do i need to read any mighty avengers or captain marvel to understand this secret invasion?

also I read civil war a while back can you give me a rundown of the end of it (might as well do the whole thing but in spoilers for those who haven't read it) and what happened since?

Indifferent Clox 05-06-2008 01:14 AM

can you also explain the whole skrull thing in detail again?

That woulda been as a graphic novel I assume? I buy the Collectors Editions from Panini, in which case they've started advertising Civil War, so that'll be upon us Brits in a couple of months.

Hell yeah! I know what happens in it (briefly anyway), can't wait to read it all though.

Kalyx triaD 05-06-2008 04:23 AM

Could the Skrulls have something to do with Cap's death? Doesn't seem like Red Skull's style.

Rammsteinmad 05-06-2008 10:35 AM

I dunno how things are in the US at the moment (Cap hasn't been killed here in the UK yet), but I imagine they'll discover the "Cap" who died was also a Scrull. The real Cap was being held captive somewhere... just an idea.

Unlikely, unless Marvel really want to invalidate the whole of Ed Brubaker's run on Captain America, which would be stupid.

Highly unlikely that Rogers was a Skrull though, as we already know that they revert back to Skrull form when they die, which he didn't.

Although based on some recent issues and some forthcoming issues, there's at least one other Captain America (if not 2 or 3) running about somewhere, but with the exception of one of them, it's currently unknown who any of them are.

Lock Jaw 05-06-2008 01:30 PM

Well, Steve Rogers is gonna be part of the Avengers/Invaders crossover.

The Destroyer 05-06-2008 01:33 PM

Yeah, but that's Steve Rogers from the 1940s, along with his Invaders team mates.

So he's still dead.

BigDaddyCool 05-06-2008 01:45 PM

The new Hulk movie that is coming out...does it have anything to do with the hulk movie that came out a few years ago?

The Destroyer 05-06-2008 01:52 PM

Think it's a pretty much a "let's pretend it didn't happen" type one.

It's kind of a sequel in that it's not an origin story, so Banner is already the Hulk etc. but I don't think it's designed as a direct follow on from the first one.

Indifferent Clox 05-06-2008 02:28 PM

Ok so i read secret invasion and I have like 3 questions

what is this 'he loves you' stuff?
what happened to iron man?
spoiler for the last one?
[black]what was up with all the different versions is this crisis on multiple marvels?[/black]

Rammsteinmad 05-06-2008 02:34 PM

More Marvel movies on the way!

Just thought I'd throw this into this thread. My girlfriend got me the "Spider-Man: The Icon" book for Christmas last year. Anyone who's a fan of Spider-Man should definitely get this book. It covers everything from the comics, toys, films, cartoons... everything!!!

Anyways, there's a little piece that says about current Marvel films being planned, which release dates. Obviously don't take these dates too seriously, but none-the-less here's what it says:

Iron Man (2008)
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Ant-Man (2009)
Captain America (2009)
Nick Fury (2010)
Thor (2010)
The Avengers (2011)
Black Panther (To Be Determined)
Doctor Strange (TBD)
Hawkeye (TBD)
Shang Chi - Master of Kung Fu (TBD)
Cloak and Dagger (TBD)
Power Packl (TBD)

If this is correct then everything will fall into place for an Avengers film in 2011.

So... the big question, for possibly the biggest role to fill... who does everyone want to see play Captain America? I don't know about unknowns etc, but big name-wise I'd like to see Mark Wahlberg.

Rammsteinmad 05-06-2008 02:34 PM

Edit: Double post.

Kalyx triaD 05-06-2008 02:36 PM

LOL, Power Pack?!

I'm so there...

Rammsteinmad 05-06-2008 02:45 PM

Isn't Power Pack the one with the kids? Be interesting to see if Marvel did that as a kiddies film or not. Especially when compared to all the other Marvel films over the last 10 years.

1) One theory is it's some sort of activation signal - some of the Skrulls are possibly sleeper agents. But no-one really knows.
2) I'm assuming it's been caused by the same "alien virus" that caused most of his company to grind to a halt - no doubt planted by a certain someone close to him revealed to be a Skrull.
3) I'd assume that the only people that know work for Marvel. Just have to keep on reading...

Kalyx triaD 05-06-2008 02:48 PM

Yeah, the bargin kid's comic. They're 'loosely' within continuity of the 616. Basically whenever something big happens the comics kinda parodies it with a E+ perspective. They even had an Invasion tie-in.

So sad to know all that.

http://www.earth-2.net/images/news/2...wer-pack01.jpg

Once upon a time the series was actually kinda serious, but they redesigned for the Maguzi/Toonami crowd some time ago. I admit there's a certain charm about them. A Spy-Kids-type movie that kids and adults could dig would work.

Lock Jaw 05-06-2008 03:51 PM

Power Pack used to be an actual group within the 616-stuff, though... I think...

Because that girl who flies and leaves a rainbow trail is all not a teenager/kid anymore and showed up in The Loners.

1. Dunno exactly. The skrulls who are behind all this are the religous type, their leader being skrull royalty. They were banished after the skree-krull war by pro-technology skrulls. After Galactus consumed their homeworld (as the religious sect prophesized) the survivors came to them to lead. That was the opening scene of SI #1. "He loves you" has something to do with their faith. Not just a code word. We don't know what yet.

2. Did you not see a certain Iron Man accompliss saying "he loves you" and inserting a virus into everything stark related?

3. Nobody knows yet. Wait til issue 2. Maybe further. Nice Black spoilers btw.

It was as single issues at first.

well it does leave off exactly in the fact that bruce banner is off in south america and they come get him... so it is a sequal in every sense of the word other than theyre doing this movie to make the franchise not look like complete shit

Kalyx triaD 05-07-2008 10:05 AM

For the record, I liked Hulk.

I'm betting Incredible Hulk will be fun but Hulk will ultimately be the better film overall.
