I miss Ronda

Pretty sure at this point it's no secret that I'm a huge fan of japanese women's wrestling, or Joshi. The main reason I love it is because it has something that is severely lacking in western women's wrestling.

Physicality. Joshi has physicality in fucking abundance. Old school more than new school, but even today it's a far cry from the often clumsy looking stuff around here.

It's like the women are afraid to even do anything to eachother. So you get shots that look super weak, and sequences that feel like they're in half speed, and in turn look too choreographed.

Charlotte and Asuka have it. Becky has it when she faces them, but against anyone else in the locker room it's that same weak performance. She doesn't bring other people up to that level. Same could be said for Bailey and Ember.

That's why I loved Ronda. She walked right in and everything she did looked fucking great. It looked real. She made it "look like a struggle" as Destor is fond of saying. And on top of that, she wasn't afraid to take that same offense herself. She's exactly what the division needs, and now she's gone.

You may think I'd argue with you on this given my nature but I 100% agree.

I completely agree. She was a true star. Hopefully she can squirt out a kid and come back right away.

Ive been championing woman's wrestling on this forum since...01 or 02? I remember doing huge write ups on Trish and the like at a time when no one respected anythign the women did (and actively didnt want to respect them.) Im glad to see it rise in stature (even if it wasnt as organic as I would have liked) and be treated with the respect it's always deserved.

Like you I my love for women's wrestling began because Ive always been a puro mark and the Joshis were better than the men for...ages it seems. Their physicality, their innovation, their selling through inflection, the list goes on. Nothing compares. They succeed because those girls were in it for keeps.

Just like the men theyre trained not to injure but they dont fear hurting the person their working. They respect them enough to trust they can take care of themselves. The US women arent there yet.

On many levels that's because theyve worked so many green women (and ones who stay perpetually green) that it conditions them to walk on egg shells. It kills the product.

Rhonda didnt have that issue. She was gonna get herself over. I respect that. She was a bit unsafe at times but the girls around her knew how to protect themselves but Rhonda was obviously an asset even though she was being carried through it. HOPEFULLY we see more women athletes enter wrestling, i think if you do you'll see the product really improve.

Yeah, Ronda was great at bringing a big fight feel to her matches and something that rubbed off from her prior experience in MMA. Lesnar had a similar feel to his matches before WWE really watered down his aura and appeal. Promos were her biggest weak point but something that could be fixed with more experience considering she had just started her career in wrestling.

In regards to physicality, I'd argue its more due to the big gap in talent level in the division more so than them being afraid to make their matches come off feeling more real. Sasha-Charlotte and Becky-Charlotte had no problems bringing the physicality for their feuds since they had the in-ring skills to back it up. Then you have others who struggle to do the same because of their lack of ring skills or the priority for their pushes was due to their looks and/or being associated to someone else.

Any offspring she has will have heads like Huell from Breaking Bad on account of her wonky vagina. It's probably like a vice.

This is an excellent post.

Even from the perspective of someone that has never been in the ring, it kills the vibe when you've got the Barbie types hanging in there trading holds with women who should be grades ahead of them. I think including some of the women that come off that way at all kills the aura of the women selling for them. It's putting all these tiers in one division where everyone goes 50/50.

Yeah, I've mentioned before how they have a good handful of women that are truly talented and can reliably put on good matches, and the rest are just competent on their best day.

What a beautifully violent chaotic war. Best part is there's only about 5 bumps.
