Also sounds like the gear system from Injustice 2 is coming to MK. This from a presser that was released shortly after the reveal:

Quote:

Mortal Kombat 11 Custom Character Variation system
The all new Custom Character Variations give you unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own. The new graphics engine showcasing every skull-shattering, eye-popping moment, brings you so close to the fight you can feel it. And featuring a roster of new and returning Klassic Fighters, Mortal Kombat’s best in class cinematic story mode continues the epic saga over 25 years in the making.

Kalyx triaD 12-07-2018 06:47 AM

Likely gonna downplay the lootbox thing. Pretty much a bad look now even if it wasn't invasive in Injus2.

Destor 12-07-2018 09:41 AM

They really need to make the gear purely cosmetic in this. All the same hyped for the mythos if nothing else.

Kalyx triaD 12-07-2018 11:24 AM

InJus2 had a 'competitive' setting that rendered gear just visual, right?

Fignuts 12-07-2018 12:20 PM

Yeah, pretty sure ranked disabled all the power advantages of gear and stuff and made it purely competitive.

Fignuts 12-07-2018 03:39 PM

Also, they can advertise the gear system without advertising the loot box system. Frankly, out of every game I’ve played that uses loot boxes Injustice 2 was the most generous. I never once felt compelled to buy any. If they do it the same way for mk11 it should fly right under the radar.

One interesting addition was a "perfect block" mechanic, where defending at the very last second affords the opportunity to counter-attack.

Of concern were "Augmentation Slots" - shown but not mentioned - which reads to me like potential microtransaction/loot box garbage. But we'll find out soon enough.

Otis Dozovic should be a DLC

Fignuts 01-18-2019 02:20 PM

I’m guessing this is where spawn finally gets a spot.

Kalyx triaD 01-18-2019 03:25 PM

Hells yeah

Fignuts 01-18-2019 05:37 PM

Wasn’t terribly impressed by the presentation. Don’t get me wrong, the game itself looks great but NetherRealm is once again pussyfooting around the roster reveal. With the game only a couple months away, all the characters have to be mostly finished at this point. Don’t have to go in depth on all of them but show something, even if it’s just a render. But instead we just got a handful, and they just played the same moves and fatalities several times. Like, it was just revealed and I already feel like I need a break from seeing scarlet’s fatality again.

Again though, the game itself looks good so whatever. I don’t expect the animation to ever change that much. Love it or hate it, I don’t think they’ll ever drastically change it. That said, the animation does look a bit smoother, so that’s something. Felt like hits in general packed more impact. More oomph, if you will. Outside of the classic uppercut that’s something that’s always felt like a weak point in comparison to say street fighter and tekken where even normals feel satisfying.

I like how x-rays have been shortened and spread out into the move set (meterburn specials? It wasn’t totally clear) and replaced by a more traditional “super”.

Story already looks more interesting than MK X. New character is cool.

They need to frigging bring back Konquest single player mode...

Kalyx triaD 01-20-2019 09:15 AM

A refocus on the neutral game as oppose to target combos and juggles is not something I'd expect NetherRealm to ever do. In a strange way it harkens back to MK2 (preset combo strings were introduced in MK3 and was the game going forward). It's an unexpected design pillar that I respect.

I still think Fatalities as they are is just archaic and Brutalities/Instant Kills on low life should be the future of the convention, to integrate it in the live gameplay (and is tourney friendly).

Fignuts 01-20-2019 03:33 PM

I don't like that you get your Fatal Blow back if you wiff it. Comeback mechanics like that should be like Ultras in SF4. Hard to land, and gone if you miss.

Also not a fan of EX moves being unique button combos for each move. Seems completely assinine. Making something thats been very simple in every fighting game, unecessarily complicated. Can see that being one of the first things they change, if it evenmakes it to the final game. I cant imagine anyone who got to play it at the event was happy with that.

Switch version is being developed by Shiver Entertainment with NetherRealm promising the only differences will be some graphical downgrades for performance reasons. Also rumored to be getting released about 2-3 weeks after the other versions at least for Europe.

Also a rumor floating around the net of this game supporting cross-play for online multiplayer.

Prolly not for PS4 tho. Damn it, Sony :fu:

According to NetherRealm Studio, MK 11's gear system will only be cosmetic-based and not stats or traditional loot box based.

Also the new in-game augments system will be very limited for online multiplayer in order to ensure a level playing field for matches.

Quote:

As Traub told Xbox Wire, "One of the major differences for Mortal Kombat 11 is that the gear itself has no stats. It's cosmetic-only." That doesn't mean there aren't ways to modify your fighters movesets, though. As Traub explained, a new parameter called "Augments" will let players slot items into the gear that can modify specific moves or recovery options for each character. "We're calling those augments," said Traub.

"So, the gear itself is the cosmetic component, and then the augments are all different types of loot you can get throughout the game. You can deeply customize your character. Like Skarlet has a bunch of different augments. You can make her get even more life from blood, totally different things like that. You can make different versions of your character."

Again, these augments don't offer stat buffs or anything with a tangible advantage. They are simply a way to customize a character to your liking. In a nice move, the augments will be limited in online play. "Your stat changes won't all be in play online," Traub clarified, "but the cosmetic choices will be seen by other players."

The fatalities in this game are next level so far.

Bossman 02-06-2019 07:35 AM

LOL. Mortal Kombat is still around? Didn’t realize it was 1993. I was into Mortal Kombat way back when but then I went through puberty and became interested in getting pussy. In all seriousness though, much respect to the makers of Mortal Kombat for still staying relevant after all these years. My favorite character of all time is Scorpion. Was also a huge fan of Goro.

Emperor Smeat 02-06-2019 06:24 PM

Apparently there was a fan petition for Shaggy from the Scooby Doo series to be added as a guest character for this game. Making things interesting for a while was Ed Boon teasing the possibility which then lead to NetherRealm Studios having to release an official statement of them having no plans of actually adding Shaggy to the roster.

She looks fucking rad. Love the sound effects of her staff. Really sounds like she’s smacking the absolute shit out of people.

Also, it’s been confirmed she’ll have human skin option in case you weren’t feeling the revenant look.

rez 02-14-2019 10:18 PM

I'm torn on which system to get it for. My main dickheads have Switches but not sure they'll get it. Others on the PS4... that Switch collects dust.

I'm gonna resurrect the Switch because I backed the new Toe Jam & Earl game and preordered the Switch version.

Fignuts 02-14-2019 11:21 PM

I like the dead, decaying goro in the background.

Emperor Smeat 02-20-2019 08:06 PM

Bayonetta series director Hideki Kamiya recently teased MK fans of being open to the idea of Bayonetta as a potential guest character in Mortal Kombat 11.

Also living Jade looks great.

So love that Fatality, Johnny has always been a fun character.

Fignuts 02-28-2019 05:28 PM

I’ve actually been a bit nonplussed by Johnny throughout the years but that trailer makes me want to try him.
