Ric has proudly assaulted men for decades on television while telling us straight up that he’s the dirtiest player in the game. This only proves he’s a man to be believed!

Flair is in hot water again. This time it has to do with Kanyon

slik 09-24-2021 01:02 AM

Good episode on Kanyon, last 10 minutes pretty emotional stuff

Only a wrestling shoot goes from a serious talk about racism to "Hey who all fucked Melina?"

Damian Rey 2.0 09-24-2021 02:39 AM

Great episode that brings back a lot of memories with both Mortis, who I thought looked great when I was a kid, and the DDP gimmick he ran hitting Diamond Cutters on randoms throughout the building.

James Mitchell made it tough trying to get through. Especially at the end where they all admit to knowing he was probably going soon. Really sad.

Jordan 09-24-2021 09:04 AM

I feel like James Mitchell was leaving out a likely important element of the story. Drugs. No way those two guys were hanging out in a house for days and days on end and "not sleeping for 3 or 4 nights in a row" without doing meth or something. I think that my favorite part of this one was hearing from Cage and The Bucks but otherwise I didn't enjoy this particular story. Also I feel like they referenced "gay wrestlers" and then showed a bunch of characters that were "gay" but the performers weren't, like Goldust and Adonis. I don't know about Adonis but I assumed he was straight. Anyway, just not a great story to be honest. Felt like with Mitchell controlling the narrative mostly that it comes off like his version of the Kanyon story.

Bad News Gertner 09-24-2021 10:06 AM

Gonna watch this weekend. Does this just turn into a WWE bash fest? Looking at the talking heads on this show, I can see that happening.

Jordan 09-24-2021 10:25 AM

I didn't think that it came off like a WWE bash fest. Really just depicted a very conflicted man with a lot of mental health issues.

ron the dial 09-24-2021 11:05 AM

it really didn't come off as a wwe bash fest at all. they kinda glossed over whatever taker stuff people were thinking was gonna drop.

#1-norm-fan 09-24-2021 11:21 AM

As much as I love a good WWE takedown, I didn’t think there would be much of one here. From Kanyon’s Stern interview, his claim of homophobia leading to his firing seemed based on nothing in particular. If there was some specific bad shit to be told I think he would have been all over it in the interview.

Evil Vito 09-24-2021 11:32 AM

Not related to Dark Side but Kanyon related so I’ll throw it here: I remember during his “Positively Kanyon” run mocking DDP they showed Kanyon doing a book signing and the announcers were baffled at the enormous line to get his autograph. Only for the cameras to pan around and show a sign that the autograph promised a free drink voucher. That was great.

....people are trying to cancel Cena for when he said Kanyon wasnt that good at wresting.

Bad News Gertner 09-24-2021 12:42 PM

AEW fans are such tards

#1-norm-fan 09-24-2021 12:43 PM

This is one of those times where I wanna go on Twitter and see people’s logic behind something but I know I’ll just come away annoyed and it won’t be worth it.

ron the dial 09-24-2021 12:43 PM

it's never worth it

#1-norm-fan 09-24-2021 12:45 PM

The temptation though...

That'll show him...you know, that guy who said those things a lifetime ago and is already out of wrestling with his millions of dollars and a lucrative movie career ahead of him. Yeah! That'll learn him good to have an opinion on something as vital to the fabric of Americana as scripted entertainment!

SlickyTrickyDamon 09-24-2021 02:13 PM

How are the Young Cucks the Trumpian Evangelical Christians trying to say they don't hate homosexuals?

Superkick that shit foh.

Well he was lying under the directive of Vince or Steph. Kanyon was tremendous.

Loose Cannon 09-24-2021 03:15 PM

I didn't realize Cage or the Bucks were good friends of Kanyon's, so it was interesting to hear their stories. Just like 75% of the guys from his era, Kanyon had those "demons" to fight with. The James Mitchell stories depicted him as a crazed lunatic and like someone already mentioned, I'm sure drugs were a huge part of his mind and mood.

I don't think the WWE buried him because he was gay and I'm sure his downfall in WWE was due to other factors behind the scenes that got a lot of guys released in those days.

Cena and especially Flair (what a tool this guy continues to be on the show lol) were kind of dickheads to him. I kind of get Cena defending his company, but Flair is just an ass kissing dickhead at that point. He probably called in and was told to be harsh because needed the money

Bad News Gertner 09-24-2021 03:27 PM

Kanyon was a big fish in a smaller pond in WCW during the height of his run. They were desperate for anything to work.. There were so many A list too stars during Kanyon's WWE time that he got swallowed up. Plus he like alot of those guys that moved over from WCW had that "WCW stink" to them in WWE's eyes. Look at how they treated all of those guys.

And I LOVED Kanyon going back to his Men at Work team with Mark Starr

drave 09-24-2021 03:39 PM

Who betta than Kanyon?

mortis

Bad News Gertner 09-24-2021 04:20 PM

Did they mentioned Kanyon using the Mortis gimmick at WWE House Shows and it possibly coming back?

ron the dial 09-24-2021 04:20 PM

not that i recall

Seanny One Ball 09-24-2021 04:49 PM

That was a mediocre episode of I’m being honest. The story was pretty well told but they really scraped the barrel for talking heads. The AEW people don’t add anything at all. Sinister Minister provided virtually all of the important information so DDP and Jericho were essentially just there to say “I knew him but I didn’t know much about him.”

I like how Sinister Minister’s whole thing is “Remember in the 90’s when not outing a gay guy meant you had to endure regular punishment throttlings?”
Sinister Minister went up in my estimations though, for pulling a gun on the gay and not saying “Do you feel lucky, punk?!” because I feel that would be a hateful cheap shot well beneath a man of the cloth.

This. Loved the mortis gimmick so much. Probably one of my favorite attires in all of wrestling. It was just bad timing for it to work.

GD 09-26-2021 05:42 AM

As someone who didn't know much about Kanyon, this was a very informative episode.

Seanny One Ball 09-26-2021 06:09 AM

It made me like Kanyon a lot less.

Damian Rey 2.0 09-26-2021 04:10 PM

Why

Seanny One Ball 09-26-2021 04:14 PM

He had one of his oldest and best friends in fear for his life just because he knew he was gay.
It’s a shame he felt like being gay was such a terrible sin but let’s be honest, that was his problem. You don’t try and kill your friends.

Damian Rey 2.0 09-26-2021 04:26 PM

That’s not why. He was diagnosed with being bipolar. My dads sister was bipolar. Same issues where she’d randomly snap and go on a tear to the person closest by. She destroyed countless relationships with friends and family before getting diagnosed and treated and by that point it was too late for her.

Maybe you missed that part of the ep but that was his issue.

Seanny One Ball 09-26-2021 05:27 PM

It’s actually all conjecture mate.

I just prefer my conjecture.

Seanny One Ball 09-26-2021 05:29 PM

Plus I’m not giving lunatics a free pass. He was healthy enough mentally to apologise so why not see a doctor ffs.

Idiot.

Damian Rey 2.0 09-26-2021 11:41 PM

Because mental health 20-30 years ago wasn’t viewed, understood and accepted the way it is now? My aunt wasn’t diagnosed until a decade ago after she’d destroyed every bridge she ever built. Not to mention the stigma that used to come with mental health for people in Kanyon’s generation.

Stu Hart 09-27-2021 12:03 AM

I can’t be the only one who jerked off furiously during this episode…anyone?

Pretty sure depression had a lot of viable treatment options even in the late 90’s.

Seanny One Ball 09-27-2021 12:42 AM

Kudos on pulling out the mad auntie though.

I’d probably just turn my back on a wrong ‘un because it’s easy and appropriate. I wouldn’t turn them into a druggo too.
